The Cellar Bar at The Merrion Hotel
The service was chaotic - it was a busy night. The table was not ready on arrival. Service was slow. Starters arrived at the table separately - soup served lukewarm with no bread. Side for main course did not arrive until staff reminded albeit the side could be seen coming out of the kitchen and returning on a number of occasions which was the norm on the night for a number of meals for other diners. Even saw a main course being taken away from a diner for some reason the diner was unaware of. When asked for a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon at the bar they did not have any! The room temperature was not comfortable as it was quite cool. The food was good and the staff were nice but lacked direction.
Our server was very friendly but we felt the food was average at best. Had fish and chips and ribeye. Ribeye was very thin and fatty for price. Probably would have preferred the bar with a burger.
Beautiful experience in this Vaulted cellar in the centre of Dublin.
Service true five star
Food choice suited us perfectly
My wife ordered an order of fries and salad with her main. We did not receive it. Our waiter was a nice guy (Igor) but I believe some conversation was lost in translation.
It was lovely & nice treat for the birthday boy in our group
Good food, good value and great service.
We really enjoyed our evening meal here, it has a great sense of place and ambience.
Reserved table for 10am brunch according to the reviews. Got there and they don’t serve it anymore.
The perfect place for meeting up with friends. It felt like we had our own private dining room tucked away from everyone. The food was excellent and the staff are lovely.
I believe the service could have been improved. We waited a while to order our drinks (and then also between courses). The food was fine and was priced reasonably.
The setting is lovely - but with lots of great restaurants in Dublin, the Cellar would need to improve its service.
It was difficult to get the attention of staff throughout the meal
It was nice not to have to rush and leave.
Great food, service and ambience. Warm friendly manager
1 hour to get the starters and over another hour to get the mains. Food was below average and it was one of those meals we just wanted to get out even before the mains arrived. Waiting staff tried their best to correct things but it was all too slow and the food too poor. The peppercorn sauce with the steak for example was like water, translucent and liquid. Our first meal back in Dublin having lived here for 2 years and I wish it hadn’t been here.
We had a lovely family dinner but the only issue we had was that deserts were brought separately and we had to ask a few times for them to be brought. Waitress was very friendly and lovely to deal with. Overall a good experience
Really nice atmosphere, we had a lovely snug, ideal and romantic for a couple dining. Staff were very attentive and pleasant and the food was delicious. Would definitely recommend!
Really nice place for food and drinks! Great staff - a nice treat!!
Really lovely meal, friendly and professional staff.
No table was available for us at our pre-booked time despite 5 No. confirmations by email, telephone and via hotel reception on check-in. Had to stand for 20 minutes in an over-crowded walkway before finally being seated. Terribly poor service thereafter as we were left for an hour totally unattended by waiter after placing our order, so only got to eat one course. No drinks could be ordered either given that no one came back to us so all we could do is get up and left as we were so frustrated. Totally over-rated venue and I would most certainly not recommend it based on the appalling lack of service and lack of attention we experienced. Give this venue a miss for sure as it was simply an over-crowded 'pub' where one could get no proper service....certainly not a venue for a nice evening meal given the frantic, noisy atmosphere. We have registered a formal complaint with the management and await their response.
Two of the main courses ( the ones we wanted - steak and chicken) not available as they had had a busy day, so had run out of the two most popular mains. The remaining choice was poor. Left waiting a long time to place our orders and took nearly 20 mins to get our first drinks.
Food was fine ( my salad was very good) , desserts very good. Wouldn’t rush to return, overall experience very average.
Great as usual.....
Been there twice already and planning to go back . Excellent place and ambiance and service. Our hostess Meagan was phenomenal.
Really lovely atmosphere, our waiter (I think his name was Matias) was brilliant and the food was great. Table of 8 last Saturday and we all really enjoyed it. Many thanks!
Great location but the food is not so good like in pass.
I love this place! I have lunch here at least once a month, service is perfect, food is great value.
Excellent place to have a dinner in real and ancient cellar...food was also a high point...we had a great surprise going there as we usually go out every saturday to try new and different restaurants in Dublin...we will go back!
Great ambiance and unique space. Service was great
Our best dining experience in all of Ireland. Casual friendly delicious and oh so Irish! Thank you
Dinner for two. Had the Vegan Shephardless Pie as my main with Bruschetta to start. Really tasty. We had one of the little alcoves to ourselves and that was great too. Have eaten here many times and it’s always great.
Was a lovely restaurant to go enjoy some tasty food and experience a lovely place to have you meal
Wonderful service and delicious food! Romantic table tucked in a little niche. We really enjoyed the whole experience!
GREAT FOOD AND SERVICE IN A LOVELY PLACE TO TALK. THE SEAFOOD TOWER IMPRESSED MY GUESTS AND IT DID ME.
It was a great atmosphere with great food and service.
Best in town for private business lunch / dinner. Quiet and customer friendly in every way.
Was the best fish & chips I’ve eaten in some time. Always have a drink here, but food was fab. And service great.
Had a lovely meal food was very nice. Staff are all very nice and welcoming
Service was great. We were very well tended to and the food was delicious.
My friends and I have always enjoyed catching up here and this occasion was no exception. Love the privacy, food and wine, and the staff were as attentive – without being intrusive – as ever.
It’s turning out to be my favourite place in Dublin!
We had a very nice table in an alcove all to ourselves. Staff very pleasant. Food hood
The waiting staff were very nice and pleasant. It wasn't busy and we were tended to well. We chose a table for 4 in the corner. I did change places with my husband as there was a cold breeze coming from above us somewhere. The food was good and enjoyable. Dessert was also good but pricey.
Based in cellars of merrion hotel. Lots os alcoves separate areas. Atmospheric. Excellent service. Nice menu. Highlights, the seafood tower. Sharing. Lovely fresh seafood. Oysters, langoustines, and, exceptional razor clams. Enough for 3/4 to share.
Amazing. Claire our server was spot-on, and in fact all the staff was great. Good quaint mellow vibe away from the mayhem of the city.
