Beautiful room, stunning location, easy parking. My waitstaff was very attentive and personable but had no knowledge of their wine. The menu doesn’t list the vintage except for the selections over $200.00. I ordered the duck confit ravioli for my starter and although it was good, it wasn’t ravioli at all. Rather it was a wide noodles w/ duck confit and sauce.the ricotta was undiscernable. The spinach salad was suppose to include apples and almonds and I believe bacon. but was instead a mound of baby spinach w/ 3 pear slices. The dressing was warm but quite ordinary. And the scallop and crab risotto was a bit short on crab. It’s a shame really as the views are so pretty and I love having a table cloth. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Beautiful view but needs updating - very, very old!
Sadly, this place has really gone down hill. The view is still amazing; but the carpet is old and very worn; it doesn't look like the place has had much updating in years.
This used to be one of the premiere places to go for a special occasion and is no longer. I hope they put some money in to it and restore it to it's former glory.
The food was just OK - so between that, and the very apparently run down atmosphere, it really put a damper on our birthday celebration.
A nice touch was the free dessert with happy birthday written on the plate; and our server was wonderful.
The Service, is, and always has been exceptional! Tim made sure our Anniversary was a Celebration! Perfect Table, awesome one of a kind view; and Best Steaks in Cincinnati!
Excellent food and very good service and I would return. One downside was that our party of 5 (2 middle aged, 2 elderly, and 1 college student) had the tip included onto the check which I do not appreciate at all. The waitress would have received a larger amount had the tip been left off... I do not appreciate tips that are basically added into restaurant bills like 'service charges' especially when this was obviously a 'family' as opposed to a group of kids on Spring Break all asking for separate checks.
Great food! Service was exceptional. Server well prepared and knowledgeable.
Crab cake was extremely salty! The rest of the food was okay at best- definitely not worth the price. The biggest complaint was service. Service was TERRIBLE!!! We arrived a little early for a 7:45 reservation and we were not greeted until after 8:15. Did not receive drinks until after 8:30 with no refills given and the server didn’t take our order until after 9 all while sitting in a chair with no cushion. We had to ask for bread..Totally unacceptable for a “fine dining” experience... the word “disappointed” is an understatement.
Perfect evening....great atmosphere and delicious food. Beautiful bar and friendly wait staff. My friend from Louisville was highly impressed!
The waitress was amazing but the manager or someone in charge was rude and passive when I asked a question. If not for that I would probably go back to this place.
We made reservations 1/14 for 2/17/18, I had asked to be seated near the windows to take advantage of the spectacular views of Mt Adams overlooking down upon Cincinnati & the River....While we did arrive a few minutes late, we were to be seated in the main dining room raised area, not near the windows, within the traffic pattern of patrons walk path in & out.... We asked for a different table, with a 15 min. wait, so we had a drink in the bar. And at last we were seated on the lower level, across the aisle from the window seating... This is a much better table view than the first option....
My husband thought his steak was sub-par compared to Ruby's or Tony's steak restaurants (we are regulars to both & after many years, we have tried many steakhouses in NYC, Vail etc... )! Now for me, being a lacto-ovo vegetarian for 45 yrs. (raised on a cattle farm & a bit too happy father), this menu offered more options than most any other restaurant I have ever eaten in.
I thought the service was good, but my husband is spoiled by the service we get at the above local restaurants!
In summary, do try this one when you MUST have that fabulous view!!!
Service at table was perfect. Service in lounge terrible.
Went for a post Valentine’s Day dinner with my fiancé. The service was great, the food was amazing and the view is the best in the city. Can’t say enough kind words, great experience!
Took my girlfriend here for a romantic valentines date. This place was absolutely amazing, food was phenomenal. Great service. The city view in the evening was very romantic. I will return.
My wife and I went for Valentines Day. They had an abbreviated 3 course menu. Options were acceptable for all three courses. We ordered scallops and shrimp cocktail for our appetizers. The scallops were above average. The shrimp cocktail was average. We ordered the Filet and Strip for our entrees. The steaks were cooked to order, but average. They were served with a sauce\gravy that tasted very much like Poutine. My wife commented that a steak at this price should be able to stand on its own. The third and final course was desert. We had cheese and chocolate cake. Again average. For the price, there are much better options in Cincinnati (The Precinct and Tony's come to mind). I can't imagine us returning.
We had a lovely Valentine's Day dinner at the Celestial. It's an elegant restaurant for a date. Since it was Valentine's Day, we had to choose from a fixed menu which was fine for the main course and appetizers but when it came to the side dishes--since I don't like asparagus, I had to leave part of my dinner on the plate. But to be fair, even though the menu was fixed, there were enough choices for each of the 3 courses to satisfy. My filet mignon was delicious. I ordered it medium well but there was a portion of it that was rare. It was such a large cut, though, I will forgive them.
Fantastic restaurant! Food was amazing. Views are outstanding. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Live music was very good, but is a little loud if you are seated right next to it. If you are not there to listen to the music, just request a table on the second floor or a few tables away from the stage.
My wife and I had a wonderful dinner here during 'Jazz at Dusk'! The service was excellent, the food was delectable, and the atmosphere was amazing! Highly recommend it for anyone!
There are many quality restaurants in Cincinnati that are well-maintained and provide quality service and food. The Celestial Restaurant is no longer one of those restaurants.
We had a great date night at the Celestial. The decor is out dated, you will see that in other reviews. The view of downtown Cincinnati however offsets the decor. Beautiful views of the city. Food and service was over the top. Steaks are fantastic! Our server was Tim and he was great. Go check it out you won’t be disappointed.
I was a little disappointed. The music and decor was from a 1970’s county club. The food was good but I felt over priced for the experience. The employees we encountered were excellent in their service and attention.
We started the night with the crab cake appetizer. It surprised us when it came out and there was only one on the dish with fantastic presentation. After digging in it was clear why there was only one because it was a perfect portion to accommodate the rest of dinner. My girlfriend got the eight ounce filet medium rare, with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. I got the the twelve ounce ribeye with roasted mushrooms, asparagus and a baked potato. The presentation of both meals looked amazing and after digging in to the steaks they were exactly what we were expecting, flawless. The only downfall of the night was we sat upstairs and they happened to be partying below us with a band by the bar. Good music it was just very loud. It was an amazing night with amazing food.
Meeting old friends
Service was not up to standards.
A glass of water was spilled on the table, spoons were not available for soup and the server did not know what items were no available ie lobster.
Als o the way she talked to the attendands was not very polished.
Great meal, great service, and outstanding view! Thank you Victor for making it a wonderful evening for my wife and I.
The waiter really spoiled the evening for us by interrupting our meal each time he entered, noisily and busily placing and removing dishes and other items, and overall not being customer service oriented. It was not the special birthday dinner I had envisioned and was let down by the experience.
Very classy atmosphere with impeccable service and exquisite cuisine. The view sets the tone for a decadent and peaceful evening.
This is a hidden gem. Not only are the views outstanding (located on the 10th floor), but the food is incredible. The bar is built in a circle and it has live music and the same food as the restaurant, and the same incredible views. Want to propose to someone, THIS is the place to do so.
The steaks were absolutely outstanding. All of the food was great, but the steaks were the highlight of the evening. I'd venture to say better than Ruby's, but that may be personal preference. The wait staff is very friendly and prompt and the view is outstanding. Great place for a drink at their bar with live music from time to time. Definitely pricey, but nothing above what you would expect for a steakhouse.
Our food was cooked to perfection, the service was outstanding. My wife and I enjoyed our dinner and had great time.
Spectacular view! A little pricey for the food quality but something every Cincinnatian should do once!
I was disappointed with our visit. The view is spectacular but the food & service didn't meet my expectations for fine dining.
Scenic view, but outdated decoration. Rack of short ribs was cold when came to table, and the fat on it gave the dish an unpleasant taste. Crab cake was inedible because of too much salt. When my partner called the waiter and told him about the crab cake, his answer was “what do you want me to do?”. In a restaurant as pricey as The Celestial is, we would expect that he would apologize and offer to return the dish, while offering something else before. In summary, very poor service and overall experience.
Restaurant is not being kept up. Lobby chairs w/torn cushions. Bathroom doors need painting. Placed at table w/nice view but so dark that couldn't appreciate food's presentation. Sea bass was bit dry. It doesn't provide an experience that is in line w/the prices.
We had a wonderful evening celebrating our anniversary!!! The food was amazing as was our view!!! The slice of chocolate cake with the words happy anniversary topped our evening off!!! We will definitely be dining again!!!
Beautiful view of downtown Cincinnati from our table. Appreciated the chocolate torte with Happy Anniversary written on the plate. The dinner was excellent.
The two of us had a wonderful meal and very filling too. The seafood risotto was rich and wonderful. The salmon was terrific. I always order their lobster bisque and again I found it great as expected. The atmosphere was very comfortable and the view of the city at night was spectacular. The service was prompt and attentive. I think it's the best thing going for Cincinnati.
Ten of us went to the Celestial to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. We chose the Celestial because this is where my husband and I met years ago when we worked as bussers while in college. Several of us in our party worked here about 25 years ago when it was a true fine dining establishment. We were shocked at it's decline. It was so bad it became a joke.
There are two positives to mention: the food was very good and the view was wonderful as always. We had the private room for 10 with a great view, and had a wonderful time.
Everything else was notably bad. The service was poor. We had extremely long breaks without seeing our server. The salad and appetizers came out after the entrees! The food delivery and drink delivery was done with confused chaos. A round of drinks was "forgotten".
But worse than the service was the state of the physical environment. The carpeting is the same as when we worked there over 25 years ago! It is warn down to the subfloor in high traffic areas. The men's bathroom was flooded with active water spraying everywhere the entire night!
What a shame! A potentially beautiful restaurant with a gorgeous view is not being taken care of! Until someone starts to do the right thing and take care of this place, I would not recommend it to anyone.
Very pour service. Didn’t refill drinks. Server was not attentive or pleasant. Ordered an appetizer but it never came. Bathroom facility’s were disgusting. Will not go back.
Our Server was way too busy for this level restaurant. Was our worst experience here in years. Which is too bad.
