Celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary.
Delicious food coupled with outstanding views of Newport/Cincinnati and the Ohio River. A must visit for us whenever we host out-of-town guests. Always a special meal.
Great view and place. Our waiter was great and very friendly. Brussels sprouts were not crispy, but rest of the food was good. Only complaint I have is the area where the piano is. I did not see the part that comes out and fell on the floor. Should be better lit.
When we arrived for our 6:30 pm reservation there were no other customers there. Several groups came in after. The food and service was exceptional. The view can’t be beat. They have a very good wine list.
I had an absolutely fabulous meal at the Celestial! My Celestial Oscar was cooked to perfection. I can't wait for my next meal there!
It was our Anniversary and it was awesome! Amazing! The food & service were spectacular! Thank you for a lovely evening!
Food and service was very good. Had a beautiful view of city. Plenty of room to park. Missed out on lobster special due to limited availability, but opted for amazing filet instead. Atmosphere was very classy.
We love going there and recommend it all the time.
Food was excellent and service was excellent, temperature was uncomfortable, was very warm inside.
The view was awesome. Unfortunately there was a very loud group near us that made it hard for my husband and I to enjoy our time. Food was good, especially the Sea Bass. Service could of been a little better. We had to ask for bread when our food came.
This is a nice, quiet restaurant with a fantastic view of the river and city skyline. The food is great. We also enjoy going to the bar afterwards to hear the wonderful jazz band. Especially Lou, playing bass.
Beautiful view. Food was well priced. Wine list is small. It needs 100k in renovations.
Wonderful evening. Went to the bar afterwards. Best view in the city
First time eating here. WILL NOT be the last. Great drinks and Great Steak!!
We had a great time and the view was beautiful
Unfortunately we had a bad experience at the Celestial for our 20 year wedding anniversary.
My husband proposed to me at the Celestial in 1997. So I thought it would be romantic to go back there for our anniversary. I requested a window table, which we received. The host even commented that they picked a "special table for our special occasion". What a joke! We were sat at a TINY table for 2 with a filthy window as our "scenic view". The table was so little that everytime they brought something to the table they had to move stuff around to make it fit. I made a comment to the waiter that the window looked like it had something spilled down it. He just shrugged his shoulders at me. And we were right in the middle of the main walkway, so it wasn't special, private or romantic in anyway. I was so uncomfortable by the small table and grossed out by the dirty window that I asked to move. My husband ordered the salmon and said it was good. I asked the waiters advice on the chicken vs pork chops. He said the pork chops were amazing. So I took his advice and ordered them cooked medium (as he suggested). They were burnt. I literally had to slice the burnt top and bottom off. The edges were dry and chewy. The middle was ok, but still overcooked. When the waiter came to clear our plates he saw the piles of meat left on mine. He asked me if I wanted to "box it up to take home". I told him no and explained that it wasn't any good, that it was burnt. He apologized and walked away. He returned shortly and said he asked the manager to "do something for me, like a discount, but the manager said No". Normally, I would have complained more. But since it was supposed to be a special evening for us, I didn't do anything more. However, I will never return and I have told several people about our experience. Lastly, the decor is worn out. The carpet is filthy and worn down, the bathroom is fairly clean but old looking and overall its not impressive at all.
I'm giving a four because we were treated well. I took my family, including three young children, for Easter. They gave us a private room without our asking for it. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. We had a nice, family, holiday meal.
The food itself was okay. It seemed like they cook their food on site rather than having frozen food shipped in as a lot of restaurants do these days. The Easter menu was very limited. The food was bland, but not offensive.
The food and the ambiance at the Celestial are very old school. It was like going to dinner in 1978. It would be a good place to take grandparents who like a simple meal. Parking is right across the street, and there's a drive to the door where you can drop off people with limited mobility.
The reviewer who complained about dirty windows was right. I'm guessing that's on the landlord more than the restaurant.
We had a nice time, but probably won't go back unless we are taking older family members out for a special, nostalgic dinner.
*It is expensive for what you get. You pay for the view.
Overall, a much needed update to everything! Old, worn, nearly threadbare carpet. Menu was okay, but in need of an overhaul. Beer was at best a little cooler than room temperature; okay for some beers, but NOT for a Corona. It had been about 10 years since our last visit and it seems nothing has changed with the Celestial, still not worthy of the location, the view, or the hype.
Food was good, service was good and the view was amazing. It's in desperate need of an update.I wouldn't spend that money again just for the food. There are too many better steakhouses in Cincinnati to go ti.
Absolutely amazing! My birthday was spectacular thanks to The Celestial.
Our whole experience was awesome!!! We loved everything about it!!
We loved Celestial! We felt like it was a very comfortable setting. The view is amazing ! The menu is small but has everything you need. The drink prices are great! The food is absolutely heavenly ! My husband and I came home so full and happy! We will absolutely be back!
Beautiful room, stunning location, easy parking. My waitstaff was very attentive and personable but had no knowledge of their wine. The menu doesn’t list the vintage except for the selections over $200.00. I ordered the duck confit ravioli for my starter and although it was good, it wasn’t ravioli at all. Rather it was a wide noodles w/ duck confit and sauce.the ricotta was undiscernable. The spinach salad was suppose to include apples and almonds and I believe bacon. but was instead a mound of baby spinach w/ 3 pear slices. The dressing was warm but quite ordinary. And the scallop and crab risotto was a bit short on crab. It’s a shame really as the views are so pretty and I love having a table cloth. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Beautiful view but needs updating - very, very old!
Sadly, this place has really gone down hill. The view is still amazing; but the carpet is old and very worn; it doesn't look like the place has had much updating in years.
This used to be one of the premiere places to go for a special occasion and is no longer. I hope they put some money in to it and restore it to it's former glory.
The food was just OK - so between that, and the very apparently run down atmosphere, it really put a damper on our birthday celebration.
A nice touch was the free dessert with happy birthday written on the plate; and our server was wonderful.
The Service, is, and always has been exceptional! Tim made sure our Anniversary was a Celebration! Perfect Table, awesome one of a kind view; and Best Steaks in Cincinnati!
Excellent food and very good service and I would return. One downside was that our party of 5 (2 middle aged, 2 elderly, and 1 college student) had the tip included onto the check which I do not appreciate at all. The waitress would have received a larger amount had the tip been left off... I do not appreciate tips that are basically added into restaurant bills like 'service charges' especially when this was obviously a 'family' as opposed to a group of kids on Spring Break all asking for separate checks.
Great food! Service was exceptional. Server well prepared and knowledgeable.
Crab cake was extremely salty! The rest of the food was okay at best- definitely not worth the price. The biggest complaint was service. Service was TERRIBLE!!! We arrived a little early for a 7:45 reservation and we were not greeted until after 8:15. Did not receive drinks until after 8:30 with no refills given and the server didn’t take our order until after 9 all while sitting in a chair with no cushion. We had to ask for bread..Totally unacceptable for a “fine dining” experience... the word “disappointed” is an understatement.
Perfect evening....great atmosphere and delicious food. Beautiful bar and friendly wait staff. My friend from Louisville was highly impressed!
The waitress was amazing but the manager or someone in charge was rude and passive when I asked a question. If not for that I would probably go back to this place.
We made reservations 1/14 for 2/17/18, I had asked to be seated near the windows to take advantage of the spectacular views of Mt Adams overlooking down upon Cincinnati & the River....While we did arrive a few minutes late, we were to be seated in the main dining room raised area, not near the windows, within the traffic pattern of patrons walk path in & out.... We asked for a different table, with a 15 min. wait, so we had a drink in the bar. And at last we were seated on the lower level, across the aisle from the window seating... This is a much better table view than the first option....
My husband thought his steak was sub-par compared to Ruby's or Tony's steak restaurants (we are regulars to both & after many years, we have tried many steakhouses in NYC, Vail etc... )! Now for me, being a lacto-ovo vegetarian for 45 yrs. (raised on a cattle farm & a bit too happy father), this menu offered more options than most any other restaurant I have ever eaten in.
I thought the service was good, but my husband is spoiled by the service we get at the above local restaurants!
In summary, do try this one when you MUST have that fabulous view!!!
Service at table was perfect. Service in lounge terrible.
Went for a post Valentine’s Day dinner with my fiancé. The service was great, the food was amazing and the view is the best in the city. Can’t say enough kind words, great experience!
Took my girlfriend here for a romantic valentines date. This place was absolutely amazing, food was phenomenal. Great service. The city view in the evening was very romantic. I will return.
My wife and I went for Valentines Day. They had an abbreviated 3 course menu. Options were acceptable for all three courses. We ordered scallops and shrimp cocktail for our appetizers. The scallops were above average. The shrimp cocktail was average. We ordered the Filet and Strip for our entrees. The steaks were cooked to order, but average. They were served with a sauce\gravy that tasted very much like Poutine. My wife commented that a steak at this price should be able to stand on its own. The third and final course was desert. We had cheese and chocolate cake. Again average. For the price, there are much better options in Cincinnati (The Precinct and Tony's come to mind). I can't imagine us returning.
We had a lovely Valentine's Day dinner at the Celestial. It's an elegant restaurant for a date. Since it was Valentine's Day, we had to choose from a fixed menu which was fine for the main course and appetizers but when it came to the side dishes--since I don't like asparagus, I had to leave part of my dinner on the plate. But to be fair, even though the menu was fixed, there were enough choices for each of the 3 courses to satisfy. My filet mignon was delicious. I ordered it medium well but there was a portion of it that was rare. It was such a large cut, though, I will forgive them.
Fantastic restaurant! Food was amazing. Views are outstanding. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Live music was very good, but is a little loud if you are seated right next to it. If you are not there to listen to the music, just request a table on the second floor or a few tables away from the stage.
