The Cecil Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
Went there for the live jazz brunch. Music was good, but for short segments, separated by long breaks. Receptionist had to prepare our table, as restaurant crew apparently could not do it fast enough, and our reservation time had already passed. Brunch menu was not too extensive, and the prices were relatively high. It was nice for a meal, while listening to live jazz (even if for short periods of time), but I would not return just for the brunch.
Attended NYE celebration - Prefix menu. My reservation was at 10:15, we stood at the front desk for 20 minutes before we were even acknowledged - and sat 10 minutes later. So 30 minutes total waiting at front desk. Given the special occasion, the service was slow, but the waiter was good when he did come around. We weren't served our main course until after the ball dropped about 12:15 and our desserts not until 1:19am. I will comment that the food was excellent, i would return for the food itself, but probably not for an event. The drinks we ordered did come timely.
We used to enjoy the menu when this restaurant was the Cecil. I was looking forward to trying the new Cecil Steakhouse. The drinks were delicious and the service was great.
We did not have the steak. We had the Chilean sea bass. It was mediocre and overlooked. We had the burger. A good Steakhouse should serve an excellent burger. This burger was too small for the bun and not at all noteworthy. We had the chicken empanadas and calamari as appetizers. The empanada was greasy and the calamari overdone.
I sat at the bar waiting for my friends to join me and Decklyn, the Irish bartender, made me a yummy ginger cocktail. He kept me company with interesting conversation. Once my friends arrived and we couldn’t stop talking to get our table, he invited us to just eat at the bar. He helped us with our order, and was a great host.
The recorded and live music was easy and fun.
The food was amazing. I had the kale/fruit salad and the quinoa and shrimp. Heaven!
The phrases "brunch in Harlem" and "brunch at a steakhouse" both conjure specific sets of expectations. Neither is met by this new incarnation of the Cecil. I walked into the dining room and wondered why it was empty. The menu came and I understood. Some restaurants have trouble deciding what they want to be. The Cecil doesn't know where it wants the be, either.
I am a District Manager for a Pharmaceutical Company. I am always looking for new places to eat or to hold a dinner program for clients. I booked reservation for this restaurant because of the great reviews. I was seated right away the waiter took our order. The waiter returned to my table to tell us that the restaurant is not serving from the dinner menu until after 5pm. I ask to speak to the the Manager she stated that the kitchen have to prep from brunch to dinner, and that my food will served in 20 min . I was okay with that, when my food arrived it was cold and my side order were wrong. I called the waiter over to make him aware that the side orders were wrong he stated to me this is what the chef served. I couldn't believe it, At that point I was done the waiter kept apologizing. I explain to him it's not his fault, The manager walked pass our table several time you would think she would have stop to ask if everything turn out okay.
I gave 1 star for the food because it was cold and the side order were wrong and cold.
I'm sure it's a nice restaurant but I will not be returning.
Cecil’s has been reinvented as a steak house, but retains the classy decor and high end service. The food was very good, but selections are limited by the steakhouse identity. It was also surprisingly empty on a Friday night. I hope they make a larger push to let people know they are back in business. We would love to have them succeed and maintain their presence in the neighborhood.
I had a late reservation and was asked to order promptly as the kitchen was near closing. My side dishes were cold so I had to send my food back. Overall I would attend this location again but I would definitely try an early evening reservation as opposed to the 9:30pm one that I had. The food was good enough to give it another try
Maybe we hit a bad day, but I was disappointed. Venue is amazing. Enjoyed the bossanova twist on some classic songs on the excellent sound system. Interesting wall murals and artwork. Great vibe. Food was adequate to good. Service was the failure. Service staff was friendly but obviously poorly trained. Manager, cast from a Robert Palmer video, seemed more interested in a promotional video they were filming then ensuring tables were served. The restaurant was only half filled for Sunday brunch in early afternoon, and we waited 20 minutes for a drink, and watched as a table of older women walked out. A little quality control from management and it could really be great.
We loved the old Cecil so were particularly disappointed at our experience. Staff was very pleasant but the kitchen didn't get our order out until some thirty minutes later despite our being the only table there. Food was served cold and was less than inspired. One dish had to be sent back because there was a hair embedded in the omelet. I understand that this was the first brunch served by the new management so we can hope it improves. We won't be returning until we see a slew of positive reviews.
Wonderful! I've been wanting to try the Cecil for ages, and it did not disappoint. I took a friend who was visiting from the UK. The service was gorgeous, perhaps we were lucky but the vibe in general seemed friendly. The food was all exceptional. Really fun fusion of such a variety of African and Asian flavors. I'd definitely come back. Don't hesitate!
Disappointing! We were greeted an welcomed warmly. Our server was gracious and attentive as with her support team. Now the food. The appetizer jumbo shrimp was delicious looking but extremely dry. Our main meals of Gumbo, pork chop and fried chicken were also were presented well and looked very appetizing. The Chop and Chicken were very dry possibly over cooked. The gumbo was lacking in flavor. A very good friend of ours recommended Cecil and swears by it. We'll just to try again with him with us.
Tasty asian-african-fusion kitchen. It's not cheap but you get high quality for your money. Service is great.
As a couple we shared five starters, because we wanted to taste as much as we can and it was worth it. For dessert we had Baked Alaska: Yummy!
Great find in Harlem, oozing with elegance! The collard green salad was excellent and the mac and cheese some of the best I've had! The Oxtail dumplings, which received raves, came out cold and had to be sent back. While good, not as good as the mac and cheese. The waitress was friendly and accommodating and suggested the fantastic Pumpkin n tart to complete this wonderful Christmas Eve meal! Will definitely return.
The Cecil was excellent. Attentive though not intrusive service, by which I mean my girlfriend and I were talking and not looking at the menu, but when we did the server came over and was on point. Gave us specials, took our order-friendly and professional. My girlfriend had the fish catch with parsnips-excellent- and I had the beef ribs. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone and the black eyed peas were delicious. They had some teriyaki styled fried okra that just made the whole dish. Went to the bar for an after dinner drink. Disappointed they had no port, but they had a good Sauternes that worked. Great food and vibe.
