Terrific restaurant... excellent food, service and ambiance. Everything was great EXCEPT the NOISE level. The noise level was so BAD that everyone in our dinner party had to SHOUT to each other in order for us to communicate. Having to shout all evening seriously detracted from our dining experience. It was a Saturday night... hopefully other nights of the week are quieter.

P.S. If it’s your Birthday they make the experience extra special... by sending several waiters to the table who sing and dance to an upbeat birthday song.

The lamb chops and steak were great. The music started out really too loud but they turned it down. The fish was good but the vegetables were cold and without spices. The waiter was very present in the beginning of the time but kind of disappeared later on. The coffee was not good. I like the place but it needs to iron out some things.

We wound up here trying to find a nice restaurant near our son's new apartment on 124th. It just seemed really expensive. And in response, I ordered a cheeseburger rare. And it looked very well done. Not pink in the middle. We were a table of six and everyone was happy enough with their meal. I guess I should have looked at menu before or maybe expected that a steakhouse would be expensive. The service was friendly and efficient enough...

Disappointed that there were no breads offered as option with brunch. When one in our party asked for toast, there was only white bread available. Really? In these times when people are trying to be more health conscious? Otherwise, we enjoyed our meal.

Went for brunch with the fammily, the food was verry good, the service was good, the band was nice but the sound quality was bad so it kind of ruined the ambiance.

Price for food value was not worth it at all and my wife’s lamb came out raw not even cooked to the way she asked LITERALLY RAW.

Party of 3 for Easter Sunday dinner. We would return. Reservations made in advance but still had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. Reason given: kitchen had to turnover. Waiter was slow and not as attentive to checking on drink refills or providing us a timeframe for meal arrival. It was extremely crowded and it seemed as if The Cecil wasn’t prepared to handle the Easter Sunday crowd in a timely manner or maybe not enough help scheduled for the day. The music played throughout the restaurant was good, but at a high volume. We couldn’t hear ourselves talk st the table.

I wanted to enjoy this place, but experiencing this restaurant on Easter was rough at best. The hostess at the front door greeted my party, with most of her breasts, upper tummy area, and the front of both of her thighs exposed in a super revealing jumpsuit, and politely informed us that there would be at least a 30 minute wait even though we had a reservation. Upon being seated and ordering, it took forever (at least 45 mins) for our food to arrive. The salad was drowned in dressing. The empanadas were room temperature. The steak was cooked to temperature, but there was not much flavor. The shrimp and quinoa dish was delicious and mild. The fried chicken was nicely seasoned and parts were juicy. However, overall the food was disappointing. The sound and acoustics of the music playing over the sound system was bad. It’s really hard to enjoy Biggie Smalls with no bass in his music. The waiters were professional and attentive, but it’s hard to make up for mediocre food and ambiance. I probably won’t go back. There are so many better food experiences in Harlem. I wish this restaurant the best and hope they show some improvement in the future.

Really loud. Service was slow. Was not the place for conversation with friends due to a rowdy party that was encouraged by the waitstaff. Certainly wasn’t a Jazz Easter brunch as advertised.

This Easter brunch was by far the worst pre-fixe dining experience I have ever had. Everything that was supposed to be hot was cold and everything that was supposed to be cold was room temperature.

This was our first time at the (rebranded) Cecil Steakhouse. Prior to our most recent visit, we went to the Cecil many times and had a very nice experience--- as noted in my prior reviews. This time was a total disappointment. Although we made our reservation weeks in advance, we were seated in a dark room painted grey/black, where 6 of us were seated at a table for 4. As the hostess walked us to the back of the restaurant, I saw a table for 6 by a window and requested that we sit there. We were told it was reserved. Since there was no "reserved" sign, I asked how to reserve a table. I was told it had to be done weeks in advance. I said, we did that through Open Table---and THAT MEANT NOTHING. Also, I learned customer service and customer loyalty means nothing to the Cecil Steakhouse. The food was ok, not good, not great.

We had an amazing Easter brunch at the Cecil. The food was incredible, I order the steak avocado toast and it was delicious. The size of the portion was perfect, very tasty and filling! this place is perfect for a date night or just to treat yourself. The vibe is great and live music is the icing on the cake. Highly recommend this gem in Harlem!

Reserved a table for my girlfriend’s 40th birthday and we had a great time! The service and food were excellent! We had to finish up earlier than expected and they did a special toast for us in honor of my friend’s birthday, complete with some hip birthday music. It was great - I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone for a special celebration or just getting together casually for dinner.

We waited 2 hours for our food, which was bland at best. The service was superb though. They really did try to accommodate. But waiting 2 hours for food is unacceptable. We were the first party at the restaurant. There’s no reason we should have waited 2 hours for food.

2.24.18. We celebrated my new job!! Yay!! Our initial impression was being nicely charmed by the chic decor, and prompt, warm service. Sadly, the food quality and presentation were not on par with typical steakhouse offerings in this price point. My 20 oz. ribeye was served with overcooked portobello mushrooms, and roasted red skins. My sweetie's sides were cold and small as well. I'd rather pay extra for nice, á la carte sides, but we didn't order any because we assumed the mushrooms and potatoes WERE the sides. Oh, and the NOISE!? Mid-way through our meal, a rowdy party of six was seated next to us. We both looked at each other, and sadly said, "Oh here we go again". I refuse to understand or accept how people can be so comfortable with acting like fools in public. And restaurant owners usually turn a deaf ear to this. Quickly after they settled in, we could not hear ourselves speaking to each other over the loud talking and laughing from this group. So we left earlier than planned. We skipped dessert and ordering more drinks, though we originally intended to really indulge. I mentioned the noise level as we were leaving, only because it seems restaurant owners are loathe to do anything but shrug in agreement. And rowdy people tend to get confrontational when asked to be quiet. Best to take our money elsewhere, I guess?

Restaurant was chosen for its reviews of the African Caribbean menu with specialities like oxtail dumplings and Mac and Cheese. Learned upon arriving that restaurant changed chef and menu in October 2017 to a classic American cuisine. Disappointed, but willing to give it a try.

Ambiance was posh and cozy. Arrived at 5pm, about 1hr earlier than scheduled, yet we were received well and seated promptly. Waiter was very professional and attentive.

The appetizer of Caesar Salad and main entree - Red Snapper with potatoes and asparagus was presented well and delicious. The Kale Salad and Fried Calamari was very enjoyable and well prepared too.

I would recommend Cecil Steakhouse for a lunch or dinner venue. Although the menu was classic American, the meals were tasty and enjoyable.

Delicious steak and relatively moderate prices make this place a winner. Plus the proximity to Minton's, which allows you to have an exciting musical denoument to the evening.

I went with two college friends we’re all from Harlem. The renovation of the Cecil has made it a great spot in the middle. Honoring jazz legends with music and photos on the wall is an education. I was a littleDisappointed when my server could not correctly identify the jazz legend on the cover of my menu. The service the house the way dresses should never say I don’t know to a question that there should be an obvious answer to. As for the cuisine, one friend had been there before and repeated the order of the lobster ravioli and convinced our friend to order the same. Both were very satisfied and my one taste left me wanting another bite. I was happy with my arugula salad and filet mignon cooked medium Between the three of us 3 apps 3 entrees it was $146 not including 20% tip ( oh I forgot the two alcoholic drinks( mine hiccup, lol) They have a great bar area and a nice size floor which can be used liberally for dancing. Can’t wait to go back for more. Change is good people.
