What Insiders Are Saying
A fantastic Harlem restaurant serving African/Asian/American fusion food.
Brunch is rocking, the crowd is lively, food service was great and fast
I had a good time there. The ambience was the best part.
Service was HORRIBLE Food served was not hot
We had a 12p reservation, arrived at 11:50a and the restaurant wasn’t open yet. A woman hosting (on her first day) told us the staff hadn’t arrived yet. We were finally seated around 12:15 (After people who arrived after us were seated by the way). Didn’t get greeted by a waiter for another 10-15 mins. Busboys were great and attentive. The food was in a word, horrible!! I got the chicken empanadas and the chicken and waffles and everything tasted like frozen boxed food they threw in a microwave. Only one person from our party enjoyed their meal and he got the steak and eggs. For a fixed price $55 brunch, it was not particularly cost effective...and again, it tasted horrible. The only redeeming factor was the ambiance. A great uptown crowd. A slamming DJ playing great music. That and the people I was with made it an enjoyable brunch.
The Sunday brunch experience was overall good however the food and the prefix menu was not the best. I had a party of 6 and we ordered pretty much everything that was listed and unfortunately, nothing stood out to us that we would recommend or try again. I feel for it being a $55 set menu the food should be elevated or at least give more options if you do not want to do the prefix food menu. Our server was good and very attentive with our needs. However the Sunday brunch crowd was high energy and full of life. We had fun! But the food sucks
Celebrated my mother’s birthday. Great vibe and ambiance. There was a party going one before my reservation which made the front very crowded before walking into the main dining room.
Other than that everything was great!
Very good dinner, but the service wasn't as attentive as I expected. Also, the noise level was very loud due to a DJ.
Food was decent. It was a little clubby and loud but energetic.
The food could have had more flavor, the appetizers were bland, and the restaurant was overall understaffed. The waiters were overworked and food and drinks were delayed because of it. Really nice atmosphere and ambiance but lacked value for the price.
We love The Cecil Steakhouse...we always have an amazing time!
Cecil was fine. I just wish it were outstanding. The restaurant is very well appointed — loved the banquettes for every table. If only the food and drinks were as good as the decor. Service was also good, although we had questions about items on the menu that our waiter couldn’t answer.
We were able to go through the kitchen to Minton’s, which was unforgettable. I just regret that the cuisine and drinks didn’t reach the same high standard.
Great time! Food, drink & service was amazing. Our waiter Manuel was courteous and very attentive. We will be back very soon.
Party going on at the same time. Food took a long time to come. Steak was average.
Service was slow but the host was informative. I ordered Ribeye steak and mashed potatoes were delicious. I will definitely return back.
Miguel was AWESOME, and Rosa was PHENOMENAL. I enjoyed myself so much that I’ve canceled a previous reservation and moved the event here!!!
Service was HORRIBLE!! First, I made a 10 pm resevation on the website and they called me to ask if I could come at 9 because the kitchen was going to close. I made it there by 9:15. I ordered a shot of Hennessy and it took the waiter 20 minutes to come back and tell me they were out of Hennessy!! I let that go and ordering from the menu and in this EMPTY restaurant I STILL waited another 20 minutes before I decided to leave. I LIKE the Friday and Saturday music they have but I will NEVER eat at Cecil's.
Reserved at Cecile for brunch after confirming on phone that there would be live Jazz. On arrival was told that live.music had shifted next door to Mintons.
And so was escorted there.
Music was good, food a d service were good as well.
However, seating plan is not conducive to live music as the tables are positioned sideways to the stage. Perhaps changes can be made.
Lateef was an awesome server. The drinks hit!! But I wish the lamb and steak was seasoned all over.
Great atmosphere and staff
Best ribeye I ever had. Reservations got messed up and they put us straight in minots jazz which turned out awesome. Highly recommended
The service was poor i waited for 20min for 1 drink. The place was not crowded at all the manager was very helpful and the hostess as well the food was great but they give very little portions. Overall the customer service from the waiter was horrible.
It was way too loud. Couldn’t even hear the people we were sitting with. Service was slow and our waiter hardly checked on us. The food was good but too salty. However, we do love all of the artwork!
The food was good but not great. However the service was poor. It was hard to get the attention of the wait staff and even then they did not bring everything we ordered.
This the 2nd time we have been to the Cecil in a year. We noticed that the atmosphere had changed from the last visit a year ago. We had high hopes that this new Latin flavor would be outstanding. It was not! We liked the service and the idea of the food as, what seemed to be, Puerto Rican. The execution of the dishes we had was not good at all. The food was surprisingly "weird" tasting and the steak, although I like Well Done steaks (File Mignon), was of poor quality, tough and without flavor. My wife's mashed potatoes had no butter in them and were cold, her asparagus was tough and under cooked. The french beans (green beans) were undercooked and very tough. This restaurant had no blender and therefore could not make our favorite drink "Frozen Pina Colada"---disappointing!
Hostess was not welcoming, asked for water numerous times, received Mussels instead of Clams, entrees were flavorless (Crab cake and Kale Salad were good). We really didn’t expect world class service at the Cecil, but our Wednesday night was very disappointing.
The Cecil Steakhouse is one cool and fun place to wine and dine. Excellent service from Miriam the entire time there.
The drinks were excellent. The appetizers were tasty and just enough. Entrees were delicious.
The vibe here is cool and fun.
I love this restaurant. Good food nice happy hour. Service is always wonderful. Music is nice but a bit loud for that time of day 7:30-8p while eating dinner and trying to have a conversation. But overall it's great and I go back all the time.
Horrible service. Sat there for about 15-20mins before anyone acknowledged our presence. I arrived with my best friend the same time as a couple and were seated next to them less than 1 foot away. The waiter only assisted them.
Celebrated my birthday here and we had a blast. Great music and drinks.
Music, food, ambiance... all great! Will definitely return
Great find in Harlem. Cute walkable neighborhood that had this gem of a restaurant. Right staff was welcoming and delightful. The menu had plenty to choose from which made it hard to decide what we wanted but found several things to eat. Was delicious. Had a band playing as well that added to the ambience. Highly recommend
Waitress was extremely rude! She’s in the wrong industry
Great ambience with a reasonable priced dining menu. The food taste amazing and the service was outstanding. If you’re looking for a nice place to go on a date or to celebrate your birthday, The Cecil Steakhouse is the perfect location.
Fantastic atmosphere & roomy interior with comfortable seating. Great service & cocktails. Food is good not great.
When you call yourself a Steakhouse and charge a Steakhouse price. I expect a nice thick piece of steak and not a steak that looks like it came from a corner supermarket. Shame on you Cecil Steakhouse.
I had the Cecil salad paired with a delicious steak and a brownie a la mode for dessert. Everything was perfect. It was my first time there but I'm returning with more friends. Perfect for first dates.
The food was mediocre. The value of the food was way off. The band was way too loud. Don’t think I would return.
Liked the place. I’m young but the music at 8 pm on a Sunday was extremely clubby load. With the prices don’t expect young people to be coming so regularly. All I saw was middle aged people trying to talk over each other. Including me and my friends. Wasn’t cute. Just annoying
If I wanted to go to an inexpensive restaurant where a younger crowd would be that would be enjoying the clubby music scene there I would not have picked Cecil
I love the ambience as Cecil’s the staff is very nice and the drinks are pretty good the only problem I had was that we had booked the room for a private dining and the staff kept using the private dining room as to cut through to the other side of the restaurant while we were having dinner and enjoying our party. Iit was the most bizarre thing I’ve ever seen. One employee who saw the look my of horror on my face, stopped to explain that she was actually an employee and she walked through because she didn’t want to walk the other way and interrupt the guest in the main dining room. If it sounds convoluted it’s because it was I can’t even make it sound sensible for this review.
