What Insiders Are Saying
A fantastic Harlem restaurant serving African/Asian/American fusion food.
Good service and wonderful atmosphere.
evening. However, food wans
Excellent Valentines Day dinner. The service and meal were spot on. The music was a lot great.
I had an amazing time, the food was great the atmosphere was amazing.
The food and drinks were delicious and it was excellent customer service
The high price doesn’t equal to the quality of food. Need to get a better chef
The food was just ok. The vibe was nice and the live music was added value.
I felt like I was back in the 40’s. So classy and jazzy. Great service and great food.
I absolutely loved this place. The food was so very delicious. The live band was amazing and very entertaining.
The food was great and well seasoned. The ambience and cleanliness of the restaurant, bar area, bathrooms were excellent. I would definitely come here again. The only con we experienced was an inattentive server. It was a busy Saturday evening so I’m willing to overlook that and return in the future.
Alittle pricing for the portion but cuisine food👼🏿.
Steak was tough was not worth my $42 the shrimp was ok I enjoy that for the appetizer
I honestly felt that the place was a bit disorganized. From serving the drinks to food service. I feel they would benefit from hiring more staff and coming up with some sort of routine. I was particularly not pleased that I had to wait 10-15 minutes to get a drink, also that the food came out 1.5 hours after we had ordered. Other than that, the food quality was great.
Business Brunch...music too loud and difficult to hear my colleague
Took a while to get a seat even after having a reservation. Overall it was really good and the ambiance really did it for me
It was great. My wife and I had a date night here and choosing this place definitely won me extra points because she absolutely loved it.
Went here for restaurant week 2019 and the food was delish an the service was great. The manager came by just to see how our dinner was going and gave us a “VIP” tour of Mintons afterwards. We will be back!
I was absolutely please with this restaurant, the artwork is beautiful. The live band music was great, and the food was amazing. Taking me there was a wonderful birthday gift from my children. Will definitely return soon.
Went for restaurant week. There were maybe 8 tables in total that had people and most of them were tables of 2. We told our server that we were doing restaurant week. He took our drink and app order. The drinks and apps came, while we were eating our appetizers the staff came by to collect our menus when we hadn’t even ordered the rest of the meal. When we were about finished with our appetizers our server decided to take out dinner order. When the main course arrived two of them were wrong and when we said something about it the server replied he put it correct on the ticket and didn’t bother or offer to do anything about it. I then had to ask if we could order our dessert.
Good food, bad service.
The service was very good as the staff was very attentive, the music was good and not too loud so I could talk without yelling. Excellent interior design and great tasting food. My date and I really enjoyed the experience and I will be returning.
Took my Mom for a birthday dinner. She thoroughly enjoyed it which was the entire point. The food and service were decent but nothing special considering the price point. So, long as my mother was pleased, it was mission accomplished. It is a nice place for the area though.
The restaurant came highly recommended. We had a 6:30pm reservation but by 7pm I was almost screaming to speak with my dinner companions. Conversation was almost impossible the music was so loud and it got progressively worse as the night wore on. We skipped desert because it was so unpleasant. I’m not slamming the food and the restaurant is lovely. The DJ pretending it’s a nightclub and not a restaurant definitely spoiled the experience.
We had a group of 10 people celebrating our birthdays and had an awesome and fun time with delicious food. Definitely will dine here again.
Me and my date really enjoy the food and the atmosphere, highly recommend.
We were there for New Year's Eve. Great experience! Everything about this place (food, service, ambiance, etc.) deserve repeated visits.
Had a reservation for 10pm, had to continue to ask the hostess when my table would be ready. After an hour and 15mins they seat us and proceed to say we had to pay 200 per person given the time we sat down! Unacceptable there was NO notice on the website or when I made a reservation days prior of this price. Felt like they were trying to rip me off. Customer service completely horrible, definitely wouldn’t recommend or ever return.
We had very high expectation and were glad when we managed to get a table to dine there today. We understand that it is New Year's Eve but it was a totally rip off. Just to have an idea we had a table for 8pm and they rushed us so bad that we were out from the restaurant a little before 9pm having had 3 courses for what they charged $150 + tax + tips per person.
The starter were amazing but we could not enjoy it properly because half way thru our starter food runners put my fatty piece of Bone Prime Rib (that in the menu said it was 24oz but it was 12oz max if you included the roasted potatoes).
From there onwards the whole experience just went just down hill.
The steak was just meh and fatty, besides it did not have any bone in...
The mushrooms were so sour that I had to leave them in the plate. The roast potatoes were okay but who can manage to ruin roast potatoes?
The desert very mediocre and they probably cut the strawberries with the same knife they cut the onions as they tasted like onions.
The ambiance was nice and vibrant, waiter friendly but the food was disappointing; over all the whole experience was mediocre and didn't deserve our $200 a piece for less than one hour.
I don't recommend visiting the place in festive days.
I hope the restaurant's owner reads this review and considers a better service for the next festive celebration.
We waited over an hour for a waiter to take our order on New Year’s evening. The wait for the food to arrive was at least an hour and a half!
The Cecil pulled the same stunt when we had my grand- mother’s 100th birthday celebration there. Whatever was not specified in our contract for that 80 person seated diner was tweeked. They cut her cake in the kitchen ) we wanted of course to sing first for her) and brought out pieces, told me they were out of plates, etc.
The bill always arrives hefty though!
Black Excellence in Harlem!!♡
The restaurant is very nice, the service is horrible, trying to get the waiters attention is worst than hailing a cab. Our Dinner arrive cold and the bus boy failed to clear the table with our appetizer plates, so when the waiter arrived he had to walk round the restaurant twice looking for the bus boy to clear the table. No apologies for the cold food. Drinks were good. The new wait staff need to be
educated on customer service. If you don’t mind getting horrible waiter service this is the place to go.
The food here is delicious. Much better value than paying $70+ for a steak in midtown. Great service and drinks. Will return.
Love it. ill go back definitely and tell all my friends.
Very nice people serving us. Good and varied food. Great prices. Very clean dining-room and restrooms.
great ambiance and decor. meal was tasty with good presentation and reasonably priced. would definately recommend!
Good food and great ambience and service!
For a person who considers themself a foodie, this was not a good experience. The steak was terrible, the quality of the meat was poor and they did not put any effort into cooking it, had to send it back. It was a waste of time but hopefully I can spare someone else who appreciates quality food.
Waited over half an hour to be seated for my reservation. The hostess was horrible and couldn’t control the crowd. However once seated the food was good and the servers were moderately attentive. The steak was just okay, slightly over cooked with too much onion.
While the food was good, the service was poor. It took a long time to seat us (a group of 4) even though we had a reservation. Once seated, after a long wait, I had to physically stop an employee to get us a waitress. Eventually the waitress came and took our order and we finally were given some bread. Food was good. No complaints from anyone about the quality of food. The water boy was constantly filling our water glasses. At the end of the meal, it took a long time to get the check.
We were all very excited to try The Cecil, as it’s a Harlem Institution. The venue is lovely and staff seemed friendly however, we ordered our appetizers at 8:15 and at 9:22 we still hadn’t received our appetizers. The manager said it was attributed to a computer error, however that computer error only affected our table as tables came in after us and received appetizers and their main dishes before we did. If the restaurant had owned up to their mistake our group of 5 ladies would have been more understanding, however we were given the run around as if an hour wait for appetizers is a normal thing, and we were somehow unreasonable for wanting to leave . We were extremely let down, and ended up traveling to the UWS to another restaurant . Another let down was when we had ordered drinks at the bar the gentleman with the beard made great drinks, but at our table the drinks were terrible. Once we asked the gentlemen with the beard to make the drinks they were perfect. The whole place seemed to be disorganized, they took our knives and forks before we even got our food because they thought we were done. It was a total let down, and will not return
