About
The Cecil Steakhouse is a modern, upscale haven in Harlem. It is about fully engaging the five senses. You will be in our warm dining room that houses a modern décor of paintings and sculptures.
After dinner and upon reservation you can be brought over to Minton’s Playhouse in a fashion that can only be described as a Goodfellas Moment straight out of the Martin Scorsese movie. To get to Minton’s from The Cecil Steakhouse, you never have to step a foot outside. You will be going through our kitchen, through a privileged area, reserved for those who want the full Cecil and Minton’s experience. As you are guided through the bustle of the kitchen, you will be transported to the most iconic and oldest jazz club in the United States.
It’s DEFINITELY a lit brunch spot! I think ppl are starting to frequent here like the do Angel of Harlem and to me, The Cecil is so much better! There’s a lot more space to dance around and watch ppl dance around. The food is good but the time spent there is so much better. Never had a bad time with the staff either . If you come between 12-2, it’s more laid back but any time after that, it’s LIT!
We have been to Cecil's several times. Great service, food and menu. This time much too loud. My wife and I couldn't hear each other speak.
Wonderful hospitality and food, has a real neighbourhood feel. Will go back again soon especially if we can hit up a show at Minton’s next-door.
I was really looking forward to my date there. (I chose this place). I'm not sure if it was the time we were there, but let's just say, its nothing to talk about. The food in my opinion was way overpriced for the amount you. And it tasted just alright. Nothing to brag about. My drink however, was really good. I was very disappointed in the whole experience. I'm not in a hurry to visit there any time soon. P.S. my waiter, cant remember his name, was pleasant.
THE BEST MUSIC!!! It’s honestly a great brunch spot!
The food was poor and expensive. I paid $40 for about 6 ounces of skirtsteak over microgreens. The dressing was a disgusting watery mix with feta cheese. It had what appeared to be canned peaches that were patently stale. I found a hair on my salad so had to return it. We didn't order any drinks nor apps yet the bill came out to $40 per preson. The service was sloooow even as they were really nice. This is truly not worth it. We couldn't carry a conversation and don't even think about bringing your kids. Mine was screaming asking to get out of there.
This brunch scene is more like a club. It's really loud and people are dancing. There were a lot of birthday celebrations and that seems like a good fit for what they offer. I say have breakfast at home and go have some mimosas with friends for a loud Saturday morning party. Don't bother with the food it's not good and it's really expensive for what you get.
The food, service, ambiance, and music was amazing. My husband and I are definitely going back for another date night soon.
The appetizer options were limited and entre wasn't anything special. Pork chops a little dry. Cocktail and dessert was delicious. Received a lot of attention from the staff... great service.
Everything about this place is awesome! The server I had is amazing. The food is good. The atmosphere is so energetic and fun. They definitely gained a new client!
This was a great date with my Husband. The ambiance and food was fabulous.
The food was good (steak was ok. Lamb chops great)
Our reservations were for 7:15 and seated fairly quickly.
Unfortunately our entrees didn’t come to us until 8:50PM (we didn’t order apps since it took so long for a waiter to get to us).
Given that there were several large birthday parties, we understand service got lagged. But waiting over an hour for our entrees and having to flag down a waiter for drinks and service wasn’t what we had in mind. The atmosphere was fun and upbeat.
Bad service, I did not sit at 10:15 I had to wait 40 more minutes. It was a very bad experience for me, I do not recommend it
we went for valentines day dinner, and never got our food, after waiting for more than 3 hours. we emailed the restaurant and never heard from them. it was a bad experience hope they do better next time.
I believe because it was Valentine's Day, the overall experience wasn't great. There was a really long wait to get a table. We had to share a table with another couple. The food that did come out was pretty tasty but it took forever to get anything we ordered. Wouldn't mind trying it again but on a holiday.
Because of the holiday the reservation didn’t really matter. Was sat 40 mins after. Place was packed but it was nice & fun. Portion for the pre fix meal was pretty small but the food was pretty good.
I want to first start by saying thank you so much to Kenneth! Even though it was super busy and we had to wait a while for seating, he made sure we were seated in a timely manner. I want to commend him on his professionalism even though some of the customers were being rude about the wait (like it’s Valentine’s Day, some people were enjoying their loved ones so their reservation took longer than expected! Did you expect people to just eat and leave? Smh customers🤦🏾♀️) he remained calm! Kenneth was so vibrant and welcoming that I will be visiting again! Thank you for your vibrant energy!
The food was so so good! Love the ambience and the music was fantastic!
My new favorite spot. Wow ! I loved it here. This spot was amazing.
Two couples who came after us were served while we were still waiting for our order.
We mentioned it and someone (not identified as a manager if one) took two drinks off our bill which was nice
I would definitely go again but definitely not during the weekend. Too many large parties and noise level was over the top.
Had a great time with great music and fantastic food!
Service was excellent from the door, to coat check to the Bar! Upon call for dining reservation everything was great! Attended Restaurant Week for a taste of what the restaurant offers. The vibe was electric, although the music was a bit loud to talk, but "Hey", is what Friday night, time to let loose! Special recogntion to, "Jose". As our server, he was exceptional and such a delight. Will definitely return. Upon
departing, the lounge area was a total, "mood". Thank you!
We went to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The staff was fun and friendly; the manager was attentive and accommodating when the place got crowded (it was a Saturday night in New York lol). The food was great. We’d definitely come back.
First - the Staff was great from Welcome, checking coat then drinks at bar while wait for others (Suma (she) Bartender was great), it was not crowded (a Wednesday night) so we were not rush to sit for dinner which gave us time to chat and enjoy the happy hour. Once seated our Waiter was also very welcoming and gave honest answers on food and what to expect if you were not use to a certain dish (for my friend it was the Lamb). I had the skirt steak and it was great as well as the sides.
We all enjoyed our food and we will definitely be back... it was my First time. Unlike other restaurants the participate in Restaurant week, they gave you food actually on the menu and regular portion size so that was much appreciated. How else would you know if you wanted to go back?
The place was moderately filled for a Tues eve but not crowded. We were directed to the bar where they encouraged that there was still a Happy Hour window. However, they transferred the drinks to our dinner bill and we were charged full price. Oh well, innocent mistake. There was a special restaurant week menu in place and it was a good value and great food. The food is the main reason I would return. The service was ok, but the server brought us another table's meal at first. Another honest mistake. I made the reservation on OpenTable and noted this was a birthday dinner. To be sure, I called and spoke with someone to request a birthday candle in the dessert and they assured me they would. Unfortunately, at dessert time, there was no candle and it was too late for me to say anything further. Overall, an OK eve but some simple touches could have made it much better. Also, IMHO, adding crisp white table cloths would be appropriate for a place like this.
The reputation and menu of The Cecil has gone down tremendously since becoming a steakhouse under new ownership (I’m assuming it’s under new leadership). Six of us gathered for brunch recently and I was embarrassed by the meal we received (i.e. an eggs benefit with two poached eggs but one English muffin and a poorly done steak considering this is now rebranded to a steakhouse). If you are planning on dining at The Cecil assuming it’s the former fusion menu and Esquire-recognized and awarding winning restauraunt it used to be in years past - do yourself a favor and don’t go. It’s not the same restauraunt at all anymore.
We came for the first time for Restaurant Week. Delightful space. Everything was well prepared and flavorful. Decor, vibe and food all come together to make it a special place. Service was not at that level but not bad.
from the moment you enter the bar lounge area you know that you are in for a treat.. Have a seat at a bar and share a cocktail and you may as well stay there for the rest of the evening. I had my martini and I knew... gin, dry, stirred not shaken, lemon peal...
For dinner we shared the tomahawk Steak.... oulala oui... heaven in a plate all that with a bottle of chateau neuf du pape...
I can't wait to go back
Everything was excellent; I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone I know. I took my. IRC’s for the first time and she was impressed
It was my friends 30th bday and her engagement the the whole staff made her feel so so special! I love the Cecil!
Food and ambiance is good however, every time I've gone they've messed up my order and the service is pretty slow. Will mostly likely go back at some point because I like the energy but I know what I'm getting...
Boyfriend birthday! Had a lovely date .. ambience was great and he enjoyed himself too . We had a great time.
Overall a wonderful, pleasant experience from the hostess, waiter & bartender
Took my mom here for a nice dinner after a concert. Really nice atmosphere and super friendly staff! The food was sooo good and definitely worth every penny. It did start getting loud in there later towards the evening so if you’re looking for a little turn up while you dine this is the place to be. The DJ was playing ALL the jams.
This place is amazing. Great spot to dress up, eat great, and listen to dope music. Definitely a great spot if you love r&b and hip hop.
This restaurant was recommended as a great place for brunch. It wasn't busy when we arrived for brunch on Sunday. We ordered and we waited and waited and waited for our food. Server informed us 'he just checked and our food would be out in a minute'. 15 minutes later our food arrived...lukewarm. Music was all over the place literally. We were seated in front of the dj booth. One minute the speakers were playing and one/two songs later the sound was so distant it could have been coming from the kitchen. I brought guests from out of town and I raved about this place. So embarrassing...
I went for Sunday brunch, apparently there is a $20 different in price between Saturday and Sunday brunch. They did not make that clear and they presented the Saturday menu. Sunday is on the back so that’s what they should have presented.
I enjoyed celebrating my bday here. Everything was on point from the food to the DJ. Will be return 👍🏼
Food was very good. Appetizers were excellent. Drinks very good as well. Service and background noise was very chaotic and disruptive for a steakhouse. If you have a great product, then the focus should be on the delivering great service and not on unnecessary cacophony. Probably would go back for brunch and not dinner.
Everyone was kind but nothing went right. They tried to fix the mistakes but the hole was too deep.
There was an event going on and the host made sure my date was satisfied with her seating even after the third move. Francisco our server was attentive and our steak and shrimp came out on point.
