This is the third property for restaurateur Anna Weinberg and Executive Chef Jennifer Puccio - the same team behind Marlowe and Park Tavern. Award winning San Francisco designer, Ken Fulk, revamped the interior with deep leather banquettes, polished brass, zinc and white marble, lending a posh and sultry feel.
Always a great experience and the spot where I regularly take both friends and family.
Great place to eat brunch and have dome wine! Excelent service
Food was very bad. The service was nice and polite but just kept telling us “you don’t want that”. Very pricey, even for the city, total disappointment considering how great the sister restaurants are.
First time to Cavalier for Dinner. My previous visits were for business breakfasts (experience EXCELLENT) Dinner was a different story. Service was outstanding, and our drinks made very well. The appetizers were also good. However, our mains disappointed. Their Marlowe burger is nothing like the burger they serve at Marlowe! The one at Cavalier needs to be renamed (wasn't up to par at all), even though the restaurants are owned by the same group. The fish and chips also very bland and not worthy of praise. Conclusion: I 'll stick to breakfast.
I hadn’t been to the Cavalier in a few years, but my husband and I went a few days ago, and everything was amazing. Such great food!
Service and drinks were great but food was not outstanding, especially for the price. We were served the smallest oysters I’ve ever seen...ridiculously small, honestly! The Brussels sprouts chips were like eating dried seaweed - not much to them! And the seared tuna was mediocre. Will not be returning anytime soon.
Great brunch, lively atmosphere and attentive service. We’ll be back!
Stayed at Hotel Zetta my Bday weekend. Loved the hotel and gym and had dinner and breakfast at Cavalier. Was delish!
It’s always a grand time at The Cavalier. The food is symmetric with the service...impeccable! Hasn’t failed me yet.
My new favorite for casual dining in a lovely spot with excellent service.
Waited half an hour for a bottle of wine they did not have in stock
Hadn't been here in a while, so we stopped by for something light before the show. Seafood portion of the menu was new to us and the smoked crab and shrimp chicory salad was very good, as were the Brussel sprout chips, the horseradish mashed potatoes and the scotch duck egg. Previous Scotch egg I had here long ago was 'deconstructed' with sausage beside the egg -this new version was much more satisfying with egg encased in yummy, crunchy sausage blanket.
Desert was a little problematic -I asked if they could get us a trifle quickly because we had a show to get to and it took 20 minutes for the trifle, espresso and the bill to come when the entire meal had come to us in less than 20 minutes until then...
This is far from the only place we have had this problem with -I know the emphasis when customers start stacking up is to get the apps and entrees out, but I may just have to give up on desserts in general, because it seems to double the amount of time it takes for the meal
Ridiculously overpriced. Food was fine but not at all worth the extremely high prices.
When to The Cavalier for Mother's Day. Everything was top notch but I ordered the special of the day, the Lamb Schnitzel. It was razor thin and tough. Could barely cut it with the huge steak knife they give you. The poached egg that sat atop the schnitzel was over cooked. I would have sent it back but that would have delayed our brunch.
The service and atmosphere are what keep us coming back. The great food and delicious cocktails are icing on a wonderful place to come with friends. Just enough noise so no one can hear your conversation but you can still have a regular conversation and hear yourself think. Can’t say enough good things about our experience here. Will be back again and again!
We had a Sunday brunch at Cavalier. After being seated promptly, the service was very attentive. Our first attempts at ordering champagne and still wine hit a few snags as the wines we ordered were out of stock. Without missing a beat, the waiter brought us each a glass of wine on the house while we made our selection and the manager brought us two appetizers (on the house). Our meals were excellent and we were very satisfied. Then, to cap it off, the manager said if we wanted dessert, it would be on the house. In our opinion, these gracious gestures were exceedingly generous. There is no doubt we will return during a future trip to San Francisco.
Great food and service. Looks like a good after work happy hour location. Can get loud and crowded at the bar so arrive early.
Excellent pre theater meal. Our server was great. He was attentive to our time but did not hurry us until time for our show. The food was very good and the whole experience excellent.
From the moment I entered the door I was greeted with smiles and the utmost professionalism. Seated in a nice quiet corner we were treated very well. The menu was easy to understand and the selections delightful. Our food arrived promptly and was delicious. Our entire dinning experience was great!
My first experience here was a couple of years ago for a colleague's retirement celebration. When I was asked for a restaurant recommendation for our recent event, I had no hesitation recommending The Cavalier. Our group had a lovely evening. The brussels sprouts were a big hit, as were the scallops and gnocchi. Service was excellent and a great time was had by all. We will definitely dine here again.
We had a wonderful breakfast here, the crab cake benedict and they were amazing. Service was wonderful and attentive. I would recommend this restaurant.
Excellent food good service/staff
Spectacular meal and great ambience. We.will definitely go back. They are very sensitive if you’re on a time limit because of theater or other events.
Always a nice looking room to have a meal! The food was good but unfortunately the service was very spotty. It took about 15 minutes for coffee to be served at the start after ordering and he never checked again if refills were needed.
Service and food were excellent. Our waitress asked right away if we had a time limit. Perfect as we were going to the theater. She kept us on schedule. Food came out right away, as was soooo good. We were even able to squeeze in dessert which is not to be missed. Will be back!
Our waiter Sean was really excellent! Attentive and made sure we were out in time to make our show at the Golden Gate Theater.
We went on a weeknight. The restaurant was busy, and we were seated in a table in the middle of the room. There was a large table set up at the window (with a window seat, much less in the path of traffic)...it appeared to be set for maybe 20 guests. No one ever ended up sitting there, so in the end it seemed odd that we were placed in a spot in the middle of the room. In any case, the food. We ordered some salads, they were fine, nothing great. I ordered a roast chicken for my entree. It arrived and looked good, so I took a bite. It was clear from the texture in my mouth that the chicken was not cooked. I looked closer at the meat, and realized it was not cooked. Not even on the edge of being cooked, but raw. I called over the waiter and told him. He didn't seem overly apologetic, took the dish away to offered to cook the meat further. He brought it back and it was piping hot and now slightly overcooked. It seemed like he now thought the issue was resolved, when I guess I expected more from a restaurant of this caliber, having served raw chicken. No more mention of the mishap, no offer of a dessert on the house, nothing taken off the bill. In my book, that's just poor service. And the rest of the entrees we had were cooked fine, but nothing stood out. The food, aside from the raw chicken, was ok but not great. Not planning to go back.
We arrived very late -- wedged between a way-too-long previous appointment, tough traffic and a 7:30 curtain at the Golden Gate Theater. The maitre'd said our sit-down reservation was not going to work, but said we could probably pull it off if we sat in the bar. That's one of our favorite things to do anyway. So we got a drink, worked out our order with Sean, the bar trainee based on his recommendation on what the best and speediest menu options would be, ordered and sat back. Excellent drinks. Food arrive REALLY fast, and we ate at normal and relaxed pace. And still we had 20 minutes to make the five minute stroll to the theater. This is a great pre-theater option, delicious food -- thumbs up on the watercress, pea and mint side salad -- and a sense of urgency when it is called for. Thanks.
Great food, delicious wines, service discreet but the noise level high
The waiter was not very friendly and you could barely hear him talk. In my notes I had written that it was a birthday but he didn’t remember and they charge me.
Fish and chips quite good. Fish could be bigger and crisper. Cheese only so so.
Wish cocktails weren’t premixed.
Everything was delicious & the food came out really fast, which was great cause we were starving.
It was a little too noisy but the delicious food & the Pimm's Cup made it worth tolerating the noise.
I will definitely be back!
Wonderful, warm ambiance, impeccable service and delicious food. Would highly recommend!
Second time at Cavalier, really enjoy food, ambience and service. Had server, Sean, on both visits... he is an excellent server with a great sense of humor too! Very convenient 8 minute walk from the Golden Gate Theater.
Beautiful space but service was a bit lackluster. Went for a breakfast meeting and the food was a bit bland.
The food was good, but the portions sizes were unpredictable (large small plates and two small entrees and one GIANT entree). The service was good, but there is a small margin for improvement (wine from pouring got dripped into a side dish, ordering a bottle of wine took about 5-10 minutes to be served).
Well located restaurant for a night of theater. Not a lot else to recommend it. The cocktails were delicious but the food was mediocre. The beets in the salad were mealy and not tasty and the vegan option was expensive and not particularly interesting. I had the salmon which was fine. Not bad, not impressive and I could have made a better weeknight version. Service was good I supposed but a but overly fussy.
Everything about this place was perfect. I’ve been to a few of what are supposed to be the best restaurants in San Francisco and honestly the food is usually passable as good but not particularly memorable. The cavalier however has everything so well balanced (food, wine and cocktail list, ambiance, style, music, customer service) that I wish I had spent more time dining here over the past few months. A must dine in experience and something I would come back to SF for.
