We had scotch egg that with perfectly runny yolk. Earl grey scones and elderflower jelly was delicious option for desserts.
The food is on the salty side but I think the creativity compensates. Music is a bit too loud for the dining side. It was hard for even two people to carry out a decent conversation without constantly shouting. Overall it is a special place and worth a visit.
Although the ambiance is very pretty, dinner did not meet our expectations. Service was poor. Our waitress was aloof, lacked menu knowledge & forgot multiple items that we had ordered. A second round of drinks wasn’t offered. The room was very loud, to the point where I couldn’t hear my friend across a small 4 person table. A disappointing and overpriced birthday dinner.
Ambience is that of classy every day couple to business team outings. Traditional English food with a clean sharp presentation. Fair menu selection. Large wine list.
We LOVE The Cavalier! Delicious food, cozy ambience and always the most thoughtful and friendly service. Our server Carlos was basically a magical angel sent to earth to delight us all evening. Thank you for making my birthday extra sweet!
Lunch after MoMa
Great neighborhood restaurant. Service was so fast. We really liked it.
Birthday dinner. Was great and they were conscious of our tickets to the ballet so we got out in plenty of time!
One of my favorite places in SanFran. Great for a drink and some snacks at the bar or with a group for dinner. Brunch is amazing too. Always make a point to visit when I'm in town!
The service was excellent. But food was mediocre, my rib-eye steak was cold, tasteless. It was medium-rare (close to rare end), but burned on both sides at the same time.
We have birthday celebration next to us, so it defiantly was not quite place.
If I lived in San Francisco and was homesick for London I'd probably come here! Anyway, all very good just needed a bit more custard or cream with the puddings.
Trendy place to go with colleagues
Food arrived completely cold.
Really nice ambiance and food was amazing . I will def recommend breakfast here ! It's one really cool place to eat .
My family and I had a fantastic dinner here and are still raving about the food days later! We were greeted with such hospitality and felt taken care in every step of our experience. Our waiter, Sean I believe, was charming and had great recommendations - such as the incredible Lamb Shank, Scotch Egg and Cavalier Salad (Truffle dressing and goat cheese- heaven!). Cool cocktails and warm ambiance! Our new favorite spot!
Worth it for the scotched eggs and great service but good was meh.
Great restaurant with a gastro pub feel. Loads of British inspired foods like scotch egg, English breakfast and some nice standbys is Marlowe burger. Beautiful interior as well
An exceptional option for splurge breakfast/brunch: hearty portions, top notch professional service with a smile, and attention to detail on the ingredients. The Marlowe burger stands up to its reputation as did the triple cooked fries. English breakfast is a paleo's feast.
Perfect pre-show meal. Not rushed, good service. Lots of choices and great cocktails.
It was a nice Valentine’s Day dinner.
Great food and service. For some reason the music in the bar was incrediblely loud at 8:30 in the evening though. People would have to shout to have conversations and it was not crowded enough to warrant a late night packed bar/loud music atmosphere.
When the bartender forgot to make our drinks and we had already finished our appetizers our server was mortified. They not only gave us free drinks, they bought dessert for us! Our server was amazing. Loved it.
We choose the Cavalier as British based venue to celebrate a good friend's birthday occasion. The food was excellent and the wine selection kept us all very happy! Highly recommended!
Food just wasn't good.
Food was mediocre, why were such crappy fish and chips almost $25?? I would probably just stick to this place for happy hour or cocktails. Carlos our server was great.
As a sister to Marlowe, this falls short. The service is amateur. I asked the waiter for the recipe for my cocktail and he got out the menu to show me the ingredients. That kind of cluelessness when you're spending over $250 for 3 people is not excusable.
Food is very good. But when you're distracted by your waiter's shortcomings, it ruins the meal.
We really enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service. I'll be back soon!
Beautiful bar area with dramatic lighting. We will definitely return. Everyday between 2:30-5:30 they have a great bar menu, which includes $30 for a dozen oysters and a bottle of rose! Service was excellent and not very crowded at 5pm on Saturday when we came in. Made for an excellent pre-dinner drinks/appetizer stop on my friend’s birthday.
Such a good discovery. Great service. We'll be back for cocktails soon.
Neat spot. Imaginative menu. Food well prepared. Service was great. Lots of energy. The only negative is that the restaurant is so noisy you have to shout across the table to be heard. My ears were ringing when I left. But then I am 79.
We came to celebrate Burns night. Had a very nice, tasty meal. Extra stars given for the service. The waiter had already comp'ed me a whisky, since it took a relatively long time for them to find the bottle I had ordered (and they automatically offered this without me complaining!). Then, when the bill arrived, they had accidentally double charged us for our other drinks. Since the total "overcharge" matched the cost of my "free" whisky, I just let it go without mention. However, before running my card, they noticed their mistake on their own, and came back with the proper amount (and, still, no charge for the whisky!). Truly refreshing to see this honesty in this day and age!
Super loud restaurant. We joked with the waitress about the noise and we were told they were a “rowdy” restaurant. Not what we thought we were getting for fine dining for a business meal. Food was good but out of control screaming and yelling. No joke.
We enjoyed a great brunch. Went in on a whim and had a great experience. The pancakes were amazing. The hamburger was delicious. And the breakfast potatoes were done if the best we have ever had. The brewed coffee was avarage. Like it was on the burner too long. But overall it was a great place and we will be back.
Love love love the cavalier-- do NOT pass it by
Service was a complete failure. We were a small party with an easy order: black currant ginger refreshers, oysters , brussels sprout chips and Marlowe burgers. After a ten minute wait with nothing but water, each received, in the following sequence over the next 5 minutes: burgers, then oysters, then chips, and lastly, lemonade. Getting the main course first and the drink last is opposite from what I expected. Oh, and we didn't order lemonade; we asked for black currant ginger refreshers. And the burgers were not correctly cooked to order. During all this time, at least 4 of the staff stood around with the hostess socializing. There is a reason this place is not crowded. Total embarrassment and epic fail. Skip here and go to sister venue, marlowe's. The burger is better there, too.
Another great meal. Cocktails were fantastic. Service was really good - our server remembered us from before, including what we’d ordered; made great suggestions; and was friendly and helpful. We had really lovely and well balanced pumpkin soup, tasty Brussels sprout “crisps”, incredible smoked salmon, good fish and chips and very good but cold Welsh rarebit. Deserts were nice but not up to the standard of the rest of the food, overly sweet and lacking the complexity and balance of the appetizers and entrees.
Cavalier is becoming a firm favorite!
It was my first time at The Cavaliers. I was very impressed with the food, service and ambience. I highly recommend it.
Fun place, fun decor like an English pub/restaurant setting....brunch was yummy.....wait staff was friendly, attentive.....great time for our Sunday brunch...
There were three of us celebrating birthdays. Music was horrible din, din, din, ugh. Service was friendly and fun. My frittata was like a soft taco, tiny and flat. The salad dressing on the accompanying greens was very acidic and sour. The Marlowe burgers were great and the French fries were fresh. We shared the ham and cheese soldiers with hollandaise and it was meh. We were there for brunch, maybe better choices for lunch and dinner. Disappointing overall.
