Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Tiffani Ortiz & Andy Doubrava

From the OpenTable editors: When it opened 2011, Strategic Hospitality’s flagship tasting restaurant kicked off a new era of fine dining in Nashville. In addition to racking up accolades from GQ and Bon Appétit, Catbird Seat has been an incubator for some of the city’s top chefs. Today, Tiffani Ortiz and Andy Doubrava command the open, counter-style kitchen, turning out innovative New American tasting menus that can stretch to 18 courses of dishes like a walnut cookie filled with chicken liver mousse and berry preserves.

The start of our anniversary dinner was lacking in that as we exited the elevator to what we thought was the restaurant we were greeted by a neighboring host and told that Adam will be us shortly to escort us to our seats. After about 15 minutes of standing in front of the elevator, as there was no place to sit, someone else that had a reservation asked about their seats as the waiting had already put us late to our dinner. A gentleman came out shortly after and escorted the other couple to their seats, about 10 minutes later he came out and got us. As we were walked in I noticed that there was a really nice bar area that would have been really nice to have had the chance to enjoy and have a person we beverage. After we made it to our seats, our dinner turned around and became a very nice experience. I did the wine pairing, and my wife took the small pairing, and our dinner began course after course the food was delicious well timed, and as expected, the wine pairing matched up very nicely And became a very enjoyable experience. We have a one course where they offered a tempura, battered Swiss chard with citrus salt that was overbearingly salty however, the rest of the dish was spot on each of the cooks greeted us and introduced the courses telling us about the special natures of itch ingredient And a little bit of why they chose that dish. The Sommelier came out course by describe the wine and why she had chose them, they offered a Vina ard Ardanza reserve that was absolutely delicious. We finished off with a trio of strawberry desserts, each taking us in different directions and absolutely delicious all in all our dinner was a very nice journey. Just wish the beginning had thoughtful direction for guests.

This iconic Nashville restaurant is truly a gem unlike any other. The new space is stunning but still feels very familiar in a good way and the current chefs Andy Doubrava and Tiffani Ortiz menu really blew me away. Each dish was thoughtful, creative and beautifully presented. Their approach to ingredients, flavors and textures really impressed me and will definitely be back.

The experience at Catbird seat was amazing! The detail and unique flavors shine through in every dish. Fact that the chefs are actually your servers, let us learn a lot about the ingredients and how they prepared them. I have to eat gluten-free and they had no problem accommodating this in every single bite (14 of them!) It is difficult to explain how well multiple layers, combined with accent flavors created such complex interesting bites of food. There was not one thing that wasn’t incredible. Being able to talk to the Chefs added a very interesting extra dimension. We were able to talk about where they sourced foods and how they marinated, smoked, infused, etc. one element in different ways in a dish. This is really an experience that you need to have! (I tried to add photos, but for some reason, it wasn’t successful.)

The food was absolutely divine, and as expected the service was top-notch. Obviously expensive meal, and while I was not stuffed to the gills when we left, I did feel sated. my only complaint was that the music was a little loud for what feels like a high-end meal experience

I always love coming here! The food is always top notch, the service great and I leave wishing the experience didn’t end. Very honored to have been at the last service in the original location and look forward to coming back to the new place soon.

This was a super cool taster menu experience, filled with lots of creativity and new ingredients, even for a person who is lucky enough to eat out often. I was delighted to chat with the chef and was also excited to hear that they are moving to a new location that sounds like it may be more becoming of the excellent standard of food they are producing. With only 20 covers at a time, its a great spot for a special evening (with or without wine pairing).

We were so excited to try Cat Bird Seat. We had been wanting to do this forever. We were expecting this to be the best dinners of our lives. Some items were good. Nothing was excellent and several of them were just meh. For this price point, it was very unimpressive. I would never go back and I would never recommend. Really, really disappointing.
