The dining room is lovely and the service good but the food was expensive and not very good in my opinion. The two starters were reasonably good but the main courses were not value for money nor were they very tasty .
I had salmon with mashed potatoes as a side. The plates were stone cold including the side dish.the salmon was warm at best and the potatoes cold .Even if the food had been better based on portion sizes not value for money The vegatable bed the salmon was on was not to my taste at all-but other people might have liked it.
As this was a birthday treat we shared a sweet but the pastry was hard and we thought tasted a little stale.
The birthday treat was not a success and we will not return.
Great setting. Beautiful food. Wonderfully attentive service. Odd art on the wall.
The best service anywhere and food was delicious. No other restaurant comes close
Wonderful atmosphere, food, and service. They also have a terrific prix fixe lunch.
Absolutely amazing place. Food, ambiance, and service is as good as it gets in the NYC. Incredible place for a special romantic occasion. Paying for top notch HERE is well worth it - though you are still paying.
Lovely staff and service and great place to catch up with an old friend!
Great birthday ❤️
The most comfortable and lovely atmosphere on the Upper East Side. The food is wonderful, the service is top-notch, and the atmosphere is perfection.
Outstanding service by staff under the direction of Michael. Staff was efficient, personable and
The elegant, old school atmosphere . Delicious food.
We went there for breakfast. Overall, it was a positive dining experience. Customer service was excellent as always. I was disappointed, however, that the maple syrup was not 100% real maple syrup. The Carlyle should never serve less than the best and this concerned me because in the past the maple syrup was 100% real maple syrup. Also, it appears the Carlyle did away with the breakfast buffet which is a shame because it used to be very well done. Menu is a la carte now which is okay but the buffet was a better value.
A friend and I went to The Carlyle for breakfast recently and had a quaint meal with lots of personalized attention. The atmosphere was grandeur and classy; we had plenty of time to relax and enjoy our meals without feeling rushed. The staff was incredibly attentive and accommodating. The food was marginally overpriced for its quality but the overall ambience more than made up for that small lapse! Will be returning soon!
We are out of town visitors who come to New York 2 or 3 times a year. Our dinner on Sunday evening was a special occasion for us. We were treated royally. Our food and the accompanying service were superb.
Place was empty and food took forever. Also we sat down towards the end of breakfast service 1015am. And waiters reset the tables for brunch while we were there. Made a lot of noise. Distracting. Would NEVER go there again at that time. Also felt that no one cared about us, a very annoying thing to experience given cost and other choices we could have made.
Best breakfast and excellent service. Beautiful deco. Will go back and try lunch or dinner. Will absolutely recommend the restaurant.
Average age of customers is 65, 70+. Not a lot of choices with food ( especially apetaizers) and the food is very average ( kind of food that you will find when you go to the weddings) so it was very disappointing. Wine cost $24 for glass of the same red wine that I buy for $21 for a bottle at my neighborhood store. I was expecting much more from this class restaurant. I went there twice and had the same experience.
They hired a new chef and service a new menue. All the traditional menue items we were craving for are gone. The restaurant become just another place where you can eat the same food, like everywhere. It is disappointing.
The whole experience is wonderful, from the table they reserve for us, to the food, to the service- we love our dinners at the Carlyle so much!
Wonderful service, food and atmosphere. Went in not expecting much and will return often. Our captain, Mike was great
Menu selection not up to their usual standards
Host Michael was extremely gracious and accommodating to our party. He’s a valuable employee who I hope to see at The Carlyle for many years to come. And, in addition, when we moved into Bemelmans Bar after dinner, host Demetrius seated us quickly at a great table and we had a wonderful rest of our night. We look forward to returning on a future date night. -Phillip
We had a wonderful dining experience — fantastic service.
Outstanding experience. Michael & Tamir took great care of us. Best Dover Sole anywhere
Beautiful room, excellent food and impeccable service. Well done!
My mom and I absolutely loved our experience dining at the magnificent Carlyle Restaurant. The service was immaculate, the food was spectacular (kudos to the chef), and the ambiance was perfection. We look very forward to our next visit to The Carlyle. Thank you!
It would have been nice if the Carlyle had air conditioning in their Dining Room. I brought my twin sister there for the first time — I’ve eaten there a lot over the years because it is in my neighborhood. We were literally the only people in the restaurant. And it was hot. As in steaming hot. No AC. Makes you wonder why no one let us know there was a problem. After all, this is THE CARLYLE. You know, the “It Happens at the Carlyle” Hotel.
Oh well. Fortunately, the AC was working perfectly well at home. Just one of those star-crossed evenings.
Must admit I never thought THE CARLYLE would treat people so badly.
Wonderful experience. The food was incredible. Charles was great!
The staff was great-very friendly and knowledgable. The food was ok. The portions was good. It’s a cozy atmosphere but could do with some updates
Best restaurant and experience I have EVER had! Everything was perfect 👌🏻
We were celebrating my birthday there and the staff at the Carlyle really made the evening special and unforgettable. The food was delicious, service - impeccable, and the atmosphere was just perfect. We will definitely be back very soon and I would highly recommend the Carlyle to everyone. Thank you so much!
The maître d’hôtel was exceptional
The food was excellent. I had the filet Mignon and it was the best I have ever had! The restaurant is a beautiful iconic setting and the service was excellent. I will definitely bring my husband there the next time I am in New York.
We ordered the filet rare but it came medium. The waiter did not charge us for after lunch coffee. This is a lovely, quiet dining room and some slip ups are easily forgiven.
My daughter and I were out for a shopping day and had a lovely brunch here
The food was delicious and the service was impeccable
We will be going back again!
Wonderful meal! Everything was excellent. Would go back again.
Always outstanding dinning experience. The service is always the top and the duck was excellent. Art Deco at its highest level.
The food was described on the menu with all sorts of lovely descriptors like freshly baked and organic, however I found the food to be institutional and average at best. The "freshly baked Viennoiserie" was any but fresh. It obviously comes in brown boxes. You can do better at Starbucks.
We were celebrating a birthday and I wanted to start the day with a very special breakfast in a classic New York City Landmark Hotel. Instead I got something completely different. Captains and waiters bickering with on another over tables and substandard food. The breakfast for 2 cost $110 with gratuity.
The waiter pour bottled water that I did not order for $13.00 a pop. I assume just to increase their gratuity.
Our special place in NYC. Fine dining as it is meant to be. Chuck the Captain is the best. always remembers us and takes great care of us with Michael, Jackson and Tarik. Harkens to the days when fine dining was appreciated and dress codes meant something. Excellent service, professional staff, and great food. Bemelmens Bar is busy and a great place for people watching with great piano music.
Very slow and unresponsive service; had to gesture waitstaff for drink refills, etc. Had a soiled butter spreader.
Went there with a friend to celebrate my birthday. Maybe the best meal of my life, and I've eaten in plenty of great restaurants in the USA and abroad. The room was elegant and quiet -- quiet is very important to me, having been in restaurants in NYC where I couldn't hear my table mates. The food was out of this world. I've been to expensive places that did not deliver full value -- Carlyle does. I've known for a long time that Carlyle was a JFK hangout, and now I know why!
I think it is reasonable to expect finer food and better service at a restaurant that presents itself as the finest of dining experiences in New York City. The squash soup was spectacular and the beet carpaccio was quite good. The Coq Au Vin had a rich aroma, but was basically tasteless and the chicken was overcooked. The duck was okay. The staff was pleasant and friendly, but not as attentive as one would expect in a restaurant like this. Just for the record, this is the first and only negative review I have ever posted.
