My brother, friend, and I visited for Pittsburgh Restaurant Week. It was an exceptional value for a 3 course meal. My brother and friend chose to get the wine pairing and it was a total cluster. They gave them both the wrong wine with the first course, they brought my brother the correct one but my friend got the wrong one again and by the time she got the correct one she was finished with her first course. My brother got the correct wine with the second course but my friend got the wrong one AGAIN. How are you going to mess that up 3 times for the same person?! It also seemed to take a long time in general to get our meal and our server seemed totally overwhelmed even though we were there fairly early evening and there were very few other diners. My brother and friend enjoyed their meals but mine was just ok. They had hake and the pork chop, I had the short rib pot pie. They did give us an additional dessert for the inconveniences we experienced. I would come back for another discount thing like restaurant week but I would never pay the full price for that kind of service and food.
Always a favorite before an event in the Cultural District
Reservation was made for Restaurant Week - lunch. No fault of the restaurant, the event website listed that they would have lunch, but they were only beginning RW for dinner early (Friday, instead of starting everything on Monday). Sadly, the restaurant let a table of 6 walk out without attempting to make accommodations. Also, the restaurant is rundown in appearance and has an old/stale/musty smell that would have made eating a challenge. Since we didn't get to eat, can't review the food. Just the "service."
My wife and I had dinner recently at The Carlton. This was our first visit there. It was a Saturday night, early (5:30PM). The hostess and the server both asked up front if this was a pre-theater dinner (it wasn't in our case), which I appreciated. It showed that pre-theater dining was a realistic option (i.e. dinner at The Carlton is not a mandatory drawn-out multi-hour affair) and that they were sensitive to that issue. Our food actually came very quickly and efficiently. We were finished with an appetizer, main course, and dessert before 7:00PM. We could have easily made an 8:00PM theater engagement if/as needed. The food itself was excellent. Everything was good. I also loved the fact that the menu was relatively basic and straightforward. There are a lot of basic, classic menu choices. Ours was executed really well. The restaurant environment is quiet, good for conversation over dinner. And, it actually is quite a good value. The menu prices are quite reasonable for a downtown high quality restaurant.
Our waitress Erica was wonderful . She brought us a free dessert for our anniversary and was very helpful with our menu questions. A very enjoyable experience - my filet was cooked perfectly. We will return, hopefully for one of their special event dinners as there was a whiskey event happening while we were there
Absolutely the BEST restaurant in downtown Pittsburgh with exceptional wait staff.
Great food, great service and great treat for a special occasion.
Better waiter next time. He was slow moving and forgot a lot of things.
Wonderful New Year’s Eve dining.
We go here regularly. The staff, food, drinks and ambience is amazing. Can't wait until our next visit.
