The seafood was outstanding. My husband had the Norwegian Cod and I had salmon. Both were done to perfection. Our waiter Doug was fabulous!
Fabulous Branzino preparation! I can’t wait to go back to get it again.
April 2018.
We celebrated our anniversary with a terrific dinner at The Carlton. While not our first meal there, it had been over a year since we’d eaten dinner at the Carlton on a Saturday night. I am happy to report that there was a happy, busy mix of couples and large groups. Keep supporting locally owned venues!
There’s no doubt that the building’s attached parking garage is an asset. Thank you for validating our parking pass.
The (many long-term) staff continue to demonstrate top notch professional skills. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our server, Chris, was personable and knowledgeable and helpful.
We could actually hear each other in a busy restaurant! Thanks for avoiding the multiple soundtracks during meals.
The wine list continues to be delightful. We shared the lamb meatball appetizer which was tasty. Our meals (1 4/14 special, 1 from the menu) were attractive in presentation and very good. We did not eat dessert.
The menu and wine prices reflect the value received.
We will return! I will continue to steer business events towards the Carlton.
P.S. As we exited the garage, we passed two limos taking Carlton guests to the theatre. This is a great arrangement!
Before the Pens games! Great food, great service, great selection of wine and beer, they get you to the game in a limousine! Pittsburgh tradition all the way!
Our birthday celebration for a special husband and dad couldn’t have turned out to be more memorable! Seated at a round table for 5, offered conversation with everyone to participate while receiving extraordinary service with Bobby and a delightful, ambitious and friendly bus boy. We save our most treasured occasions for The Carlton that has become a treasured tradition.
Always great food, great service, and top rated experience...
Superb as always. I do not think there is an item on their menu that is not prepared to perfection. Our favorite.
Fish is delicious. I love that they are so accommodating with special requests. Service is fabulous. Great for a business lunch.
As always, the food and wine at the Carlton were excellent. Would liked to have a bit more time between our appetizer, salad and entrée.
Great meal, atmosphere and service. Felt welcome and always enjoy the experience. Would recommend for any occasion.
Very good service and food, although I wonder why they don’t include a salad with dinner at there prices
One of my most favorite restaurants. Great for lunch and dinner. I go often, love love love the waiter name "Bobby" and I always request his section. He goes "above and beyond" every time.
Our server was outstanding and the best that we ever had at the Carlton!! He definitely went above and beyond to meet our needs!! Very pleased!!
Service and food were great today! Perfect for our lunch get together in an hour
Excellent food with menu options that changes daily! Quiet and cozy place.
We have never had a bad meal at the Carlton. The food is always outstanding and the service is always exceptional! The wine list is second to none!!
The Carlton has always been one of my Pittsburgh favorites. Long term employees as well as a great menu and superior food makes for a superb restaurant. Their service, especially Mike, is impeccable. Free parking and limo service to the theater district and the arena makes for a no brainer.
Saturday evening was our first time at the Carlton. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and food. We use the free parking option and the limo service to and from our show at the Benedum. This just added to the fun and easy of Navigating the busy city on Saturday evening. Highly recommended, we even stopped in after our show was over and got a table for the second time that evening and had a late evening dessert. :)
We were celebrating my dad’s birthday and his health (after a scare), and we chose the Carlton because it’s his favorite. From the moment I booked the reservation, the staff was genuinely courteous, helpful, and professional. The food was outstanding and the timing of every course was perfect. I wouldn’t change a thing about our experience, and I’d encourage anyone looking for a delicious meal in a first class environment to check out this place.
The waiter never came back to ask how our meal was. When he brought the check, he didn’t come back either, good thing we paid cash!
While the food and ambiance were nice, our waiter was abrupt and dismissive of our (very few) questions. And although the manager quickly passed by asking how everything was, it was an empty gesture, as he never paused to allow a chance for reply. This was unacceptable for a supposed fine dining experience.
We tried the special French wine dinner & had a lovely meal! Service & food was delightful!! We also bought some yummy wine to take home :)
The food was delicious and the service was fantastic. I had the halibut special, per the recommendation of our waitress, and it was outstanding. Cooked to perfection and full of so many wonderful flavors!! I had the chocolate mousse cake for dessert and it was also very good. I highly recommend this restaurant! I am always concerned about the noise level during lunch/dinner meetings but The Carlton was nice and quiet, so the noise was not an issue at all.
Long term Pittsburgh icon. Always high quality food and best service. I use for business and for family functions. Never disappointing. Always reasonable prices, wine prices are at low end of restaurant pricing with a solid list.
We went for a wedding anniversary luncheon after having checked the menu on line. We were delighted with the variety of fish and seafood dishes available midday. Only criticism concerns the wine-list. What is presented on the table relies too heavily on American wineries, with few European selections.
My Halibut and my wife's Chilean Sea bass were delicious. Wines are modestly priced with a fantastic selection. Service was great. It's been awhile since I've been there but will definitely be back sooner. Our friends were there and commented on their food being great.
As always, our dining experience was truly wonderful. The food was excellent and Doug, our waiter was exceptional. It’s our favorite Pittsburgh restaurant for celebrating special occasions.
The meal was very good as was the service inside the restaurant. We were there to have dinner before going the concert at PPG. When we finished eating and were told that we could get a limo ride to PPG, the driver would not take us because there were people also going to a different location. Very disappointing and poor service from driver and we had to walk
Everyone was friendly from the greeter to the waiter and other staff.
Our meals were excellent.
We met Kevin Joyce who was exceptionally friendly.
We have eaten at the Carlton several times and we have always enjoyed our meals and always comment on how welcoming and friendly the employees are.
We usually eat there before hockey games and appreciate the limo ride to PP&G.
All in all, it was a very enjoyable dining experience.
Usually this is a "go to" dinner place for me and I have never been disappointed BUT that changed on Saturday night. The service was excellent as always but the food was lacking...The bread served prior to dinner had several dried out pieces, the salad was drenched in dressing and the main course I had had no flavor to speak of...Very Disappointed!!! I assume it was due to the fact it was after a Pen's home game...I will try again and I hope this was just an isolated night...
Consistently provides very good drinks, food and service. The limo to and from the theater is a special touch.
We were celebrating our anniversary and our first time at the Carlton. We were surprised by a bottle of champagne pre paid by a family member. Our server was phenomenal! Doug was very informative regarding the menu and very patient with our questions. He made our experience very memorable. We will return on our next visit to Pittsburgh.
Other than being tucked away and a little hard to find, the restaurant was very nice, excellent food and great service. Would recommend to anyone looking for an alternative a few blocks from cultural district. Worth the walk, especially on a show day when anything near theaters is jammed
Birthday dinner
Faye was amazing.
Our waiter, Chris was factastic. He was helpful with drink recommendations and was very personable. Food and service was great.
Hard to get in/out in an hour, service can be a bit slow
Always have a great experience at The Carlton
Outstanding meal and service. One of our favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh.
We were celebrating our 40 year anniversary and we absolutely were treated like royalty. The hostess wished us a happy anniversary and our waiter gave us a free double scoop ice cream with brownie dessert. I had the sea bass and it melted in your mouth. We dine at the Carlton often and have never had a bad meal. I love their wine lists!!
Ballet performance at the Benedum. Service was a little slow after initially being very good. Food arrived a little slow and could have been a little warmer. The food quality was good overall but just could have been a little hotter.
