We went to The Carlton for Restaurant Week. It was the first time we've been at this restaurant during the Restaurant Week specials so we were interested in seeing how it compared to a normal Saturday night. The place was busy - not sure if that was normal or due to Restaurant Week but I'd bet it was due to Restaurant Week. We had our choice of the normal Restaurant Week dinner menu or pairing it with wine. Since The Carlton is so known for it's wine we took the wine pairing option. The first course we both got the crisp breaded crab risotto balls and it was paired with a Sauvignon Blanc. The risotto balls were spectacular and the wine paired with it perfectly. I could have just had a plate of those and been happy. But the 2nd course arrived - I got the short rib pot pie paired with a cigar zinfandel and my table mate got the pork chop paired with a Malbec. We were both raving on the food and the wine. For the dessert course I got a chocolate cheesecake and my table mate ordered the banana creme pie. Both were huge portions so we ended up taking most of it home with us. No skimping due to Restaurant Week at all. We appreciated that the wait staff was very attentive without being bothersome. We even got a table visit by the owner, Mr. Joyce. And never did we feel rushed so the table could be turned over. All and all a delightful evening!
The short rib pot pie was amazing! We had a great waiter! It was a wonderful evening
The food was delicious and it was a very nice atmosphere. We will definitely return
It was very cold was there in November also cold then.
We went for restaurant week feature as the menu looked amazing for a 3 course lunch. The food was delicious but it took 1.5 hours and the restaurant was not that busy.
I went for Restaurant Week and the menu that was provided was very good. The food was excellent and there was a good variety. It is a nice atmosphere.
We very much enjoyed our dinner. Our waiter 'over rode' our appetizer choices and we ordered at his suggestion the lobster/crab Gnocchi - amazing!! We enjoyed our sea bass - but feel that the cold bed of veggies and noodles does a disservice to the dish. We even thought of having the sea bass OVER the gnocchi and the veggies/noodles as the appetizer!! The cold transferred itself to the sea bass and I like my hot foods HOT!! I also would like to see a key lime pie, or some type of citrus type dessert. It was a huge plus and the reason we decided on The Carlton to have our parking validated and a ride up to PPG arena!
Excellent and friendly service. Very attentive to your needs.
My brother, friend, and I visited for Pittsburgh Restaurant Week. It was an exceptional value for a 3 course meal. My brother and friend chose to get the wine pairing and it was a total cluster. They gave them both the wrong wine with the first course, they brought my brother the correct one but my friend got the wrong one again and by the time she got the correct one she was finished with her first course. My brother got the correct wine with the second course but my friend got the wrong one AGAIN. How are you going to mess that up 3 times for the same person?! It also seemed to take a long time in general to get our meal and our server seemed totally overwhelmed even though we were there fairly early evening and there were very few other diners. My brother and friend enjoyed their meals but mine was just ok. They had hake and the pork chop, I had the short rib pot pie. They did give us an additional dessert for the inconveniences we experienced. I would come back for another discount thing like restaurant week but I would never pay the full price for that kind of service and food.
