A Pittsburgh favorite for over 20 years. Recipient of the Wine Spectator of Excellence 1995-2006 and The Dirona Award 2000 - 2006 (Distinguished Restaurants of North American).
The Carlton has a spectacular cuisine, complimented with an extensive wine list served by polished waiters in a beautiful atmosphere. Pittsburghers know the value of the Carlton making it the spot for business meetings to celebrations.

We had a very nice dinner and our waiter was excellent! I didn't care for the vegetable or potato that accompanied my delicious pork chop. However, our waiter was very accommodating.
Great food. Bob, our waiter was excellent! Felt like we were the rich and famous at reasonable price. A great find! Will try to go regularly for special occasions. Free Secure parking was nice as well.
Our food was delicious.
Faye, our server could not have been more gracious and helpful.
The Carlton is our go to place for a special meal. However on this particular Saturday evening the service was extremely slow, so much so that we had to skip dessert so that we could get to our show on time. I waited close to ten minutes from the time I was seated until our server showed up to take my drink order (the other members of our party had arrived earlier and had their drinks already). The food was excellent, but it took a long time from the time we ordered till our meals arrived. First time I've ever been disappointed at The Carlton.
The Carlton is one of our favorite restaurants in downtown Pittsburgh. We usually like to go before a show at Heinz Hall or the Benedum. The food is always great and they provide transportation to the show.
Very good service and the food was excellent!
Service was fantastic and so was food! Salmon was really good.
Great food and service!
The food is reliably excellent at the Carlton. We only come for special occasions as it is a bit pricey. The service is excellent and the ambiance is beautiful.
The Carlton is one of my favorite restaurants downtown Pittsburgh. The food is delicious and the service is outstanding. Parking is free and if you are going to the theatre they have a limo to take you and pick you up. They also have a wine shop.
Similar to other reviews, the food was excellent! Enjoyed every course. Will definitely return.
The meal was excellent and the service the same. We have never had a bad meal here.
We had a get together with an out of town business guest.
We were not rushed to get to a theater on time or a sporting event.
We had a relaxing evening with excellent food and service.
I had the scallops with risotto and asparagus served in a tomato Florentine sauce.
Highly recommend it.
The Carlton should bottle the sauce and sell it...delicious
We had a wonderful dinner. We were asked if we were headed to the theater and, when we said that we weren't, we were treated to a a very nicely-paced experience. How nice to never once be asked, "Are you still working on that?" Both the food and the service were excellent.
We mentioned to Enzo, our waiter, that we were there to celebrate our anniversary, and we were treated to dessert "on the Carlton."
We live about 70 miles away, but will no doubt return on another special occasion.
Food excellent as always...this was the first time the sample bread plate had to be requested. Service great.
The Carlton has the best food and service in downtown Pittsburgh
The Carlton is one of the hidden gems in the Pittsburgh Lunchtime Roundup! I often suggest going there for lunch with friends who are tired of the 'same old' that have been standards for lunch meetings.
The food and service were excellent. a little pricey but I guess we expected it for a downtown restaurant
This remains our #1 restaurant in Pittsburgh. It is in the top 10 world wide for us.
excellent quality food and service. Affordable and vast wine selections. great before a show.
Excellent food and service. Great wine list, very reasonably priced. Convenient to downtown hotels and public light rail transportation.
I had a dinner date with my daughter before the Nora Jones show.
The Carlton is, in my opinion, the best restaurant in Pgh. Quality of the food, service and atmosphere, everything was perfect. Then we walk out the door, hop in our free limo ride to the show. Every time I go there. It is perfect
Almost forgot. We are both gluten free and they accommodated us 100%
Fabulous scallops dinner !!!
Our waiter, Bobby, provided excellent service & great attention to every detail!
The food was excellent and we enjoyed a lovely evening. This is our favorite restaurant, by far.
Everything that one could want in a high end restaurant...and more...can be experienced at The Carlton. Every food item that we got was delicious, creatively prepared and presented. The service was as good as it gets, and the ambiance was very nice and classy. Also, the entire staff was aware of our having theater tickets and made sure that we had no problems getting through our meal, (which included dessert), at a relaxed but steady pace so that we could then take their courtesy limo to the theater in sufficiently timely fashion. Enjoying The Carlton before the theater will no doubt become a routine for us.
Congrats to all of The Carlton staff on a job very well done!
Great as always
From start to finish everything was wonderful. Our waiter gave us amazing dinner suggestions and was very attentive the entire meal. Can't wait to come back!
Our dinner and service was great. Not our first time and we definitely be back. The free parking and shuttle to the Benedum is such a great perk.
After a slow start the service picked up and everything ended up being great
As always, excellent service and welcome from all of the staff and the free parking and limo ride to the cultural district cannot be beat for value
We went before a show. The food was outstanding! The service impeccable! We love going here!
Five stars for this downtown spot. Free parking with dinner, limo to and from theatre. Pricy, but food/menu excellent and interesting.
I was traveling to Pittsburgh for a conference and wanted to treat myself to a nice dinner. I did some research and The Carlton got great reviews. The menu online looked pretty good. It wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t great either. The service was slow although the staff were polite overall. I was unimpressed by the menu (which changes daily). I didn’t really care for many of the choices. I kind of wanted to leave, but I had already ordered a drink. I ended up getting a burger, but despite the fixings and toppings, it was somehow kind of bland. I asked for medium rare and got medium (which is acceptable). The fries were probably the highlight....fries! It’s not awful, but it’s nothing to write home about.
It’s a good restaurant our server was excellent. I’ve always felt the cost exceeded the expectation.
My salad was very small and my seafood dish was too overwhelmed by butter and creamy sauce.
My guests were polite and didn’t complain but we all agreed.
We are loyal and will continue to dine occasionally.
For a Friday night there were a lot of empty tables.
Another great visit to the Carlton - I don't think we have ever been disappointed in this restaurant! Our server, Michael, was the best - his recommendations were spot on, and he made us feel special the entire night! My comment after dinner at the Carlton is always..."I can't wait to come back!"
The food was delicious
Food was great as usual. I had the Chilean sea bass. Although it was great and I enjoyed it. it was not as good as the old recipe you use to serve.
Love the Carleton, nice table and our favorite waiter Bobby!
Very good wine list and wines by the glass are very reasonably priced. Their themed wine dinners are great. Free parking and close to PPG Arena. Food is OK - sounds good on the menu but is never quite up to expectations.
The food was fantastic, the wine was very good and from their cellar collection, service was perfect and very quiet.
