A Pittsburgh favorite for over 20 years. Recipient of the Wine Spectator of Excellence 1995-2006 and The Dirona Award 2000 - 2006 (Distinguished Restaurants of North American).
The Carlton has a spectacular cuisine, complimented with an extensive wine list served by polished waiters in a beautiful atmosphere. Pittsburghers know the value of the Carlton making it the spot for business meetings to celebrations.
Always a good meal at the Carlton. Would go more often if prices were a little lower.
Lovely meal with a excellent service.
Great place to celebrate👍
Very lovely restaurant with excellent staff. I made a reservation through Open Table 2 days ahead and the restaurant did not see it until we walked in but luckily it was 6:00 on a Monday and they had plenty of room for us. The wine is extremely affordable and the chef was more than happy to adjust our meals accordingly to meet a gluten free diet. The menu was amazing which made for a difficult decision in what to order. Our waitress was very sweet and made sure we knew the time in order to make it to our show on time. The complimentary shuttle was beautiful and luxurious and the driver was very attentive. After the show, the shuttle was parked right in front of the Benedum waiting for us and we were back at the restaurant quickly. I will definitely visit again to see what is on the menu next!
Food was excellent waiter was cool and they have a Veal Chop on the menu!
The only thing missing was a sign in front of the building to tell us where it was. Service and food were great!
We went to the Carleton for our 40 th wedding Anniversary, appropriate as it was our 40 th year in Pittsburgh as well. This place is a tradition in this city, but has also kept up with the times as well, serving traditional favorites as well as innovative dishes , all well prepared and with attentive and friendly service. My main entree, Pablo crusted grouper stuffed with crab imperial and served over fingerling potatoes with asparagus was a delight for the senses and so filling that my husband got a nice taste as well. The wine list is extensive and not overpriced. The tables are linen covered and nicely spaced. I splurged in a Pittsburgh tradition of pecan ball which was filled with memories . Parking is comped in the garage and it was a quick hop into the parkway North and home. This place is quietly ensconced in our city, and well worth a visit!
Excellent food and good service. Nice atmosphere.
We have never been disappointed. From the waitress in the bar to the front desk. All very nice. We always get a good waiter but this time we got a great waiter. Couldn’t have had a better time
A very pleasant place with exceptional staff. I appreciate the knowledgeable staff and their service. We were heading to the Symphony but had plenty of time. I need peaceful Friday evenings to unplug and rewind. The Carlton meets that expectation and more. Food was excellent as always. And the bread pudding with whiskey sauce is beyond words. Thank you Russell for taking care of us.
The restaurant is very good and I would recommend it but with a few qualifiers. First, the lighting is so dark we had to use our flashlights to see the menu. Second, a table near us was very loud. It was hard to hear. Third, our waiter seemed busy and didn't take much time with us. He seemed to be rushing us.
The food was very good as usual.
We loved everything about our visit to The Carlton and would highly recommend it. The staff was very pleasant and very knowledgeable. The meal was excellent and they had a great selection of scotch and port wine. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will definitely return!
Excellent food and service and appreciate the complimentary parking and a limo ride to and from the show at The Benedum. Everything was top notch, as usual. Highly recommend.
Food would have been a 5 if it would have been hot and not lukewarm.
We always have a good experience at the Carlton. Food is great, wine is not too expensive and our waiter Doug was very good. Attentive, but not over bearing. We are looking forward to our next dinner at the Carlton. The young girl at the front was also good. We couldn't find a place in the bar for a drink so she got one for us until our table was ready. Everyone is very professional and accommodating .
Tremendous overall value. Great wine list. Super service from Chris
I have dined at this location numerous times alone for lunch and with friends for dinner. I always have a great experience. Good food and drinks and an exceptional wine list. On rare occasions I have room for dessert and that also exceeded my expectations. No matter what I'm in the mood for be it fish, beef, chicken or a salad, I always leave feeling wonderfully satisfied. Service is great and they always want to consider whether you are dining before an event. I've never been in a rush because it is one of the few restaurants in downtown Pittsburgh that is close to my office and so enjoyable that having to rush through a meal would defeat the experience. I'll be back soon.
We went there prior to taking our sons, 10 & 11, to their first Penguins game. The food was delicious (and our boys are picky about their steak -lol) and the service (Russell was our waiter) was fantastic. Bring back the salmon dish from last summer and this place is perfect!
We had the reservation for my birthday lunch, they took our order in 5 minutes after arrival, but it took entire hour , while the food was brought on the table! It neve happens before, this was not the first visit for me in The Carlton!
This is not acceptable..
Another thing, that we did not like, that we checked the bill, it was a change for 2 salads, that we did not order, over $25!
One if my sons had to show it to the waitrer and he corrected it
The overall experience was not good at all!
An outstanding evening of drinks, wine and very good food.
We had a great meal and caught the limo to the hockey game on a cold night to top it off.
It has been years since I have been to the Carlton for dinner and must say that the evening was truly wonderful. The food was delicious; we enjoyed the sea bass and prime rib. The meal was cooked to perfection, my only suggestion would be to have another choice of serving the sea bass. I thought the potatoes were heavy and outdated for such a light fish. The wine list could use some better choices. The wine was okay but not to the standards of the food. The ambiance is as I remembered, quite and country club like. Great evening and will definitely add it to my list for the future.
Great food as always, waiter was horrid, every time I asked him for something he acted put out
I have dined at the Carlton for thirty years. It is better than ever
Incredible food, superb service. Can’t say enough good things.
Eaten there a bunch of times. The use of the limo to the show is worth the price of the dinner. The food is always wonderful and the service is impeccable. Would always recommend them to a friend!
The Carlton is now my go to for business lunches. It's not very busy and usually quiet making it easy to have a conversations. The service is prompt and excellent. The food is good and the menu has a good variety. There are many more expensive lunch places in Pittsburgh, but this is the best value in my opinion.
Delicious food, great wine, knowledgeable waiter, wonderful recommendations for a non oak chardonnay wine
Our favorite Pittsburgh restaurant. Food and service was exceptional as usual Russell, our server, is the best.
Very nice restaurant with great food and friendly, courteous staff
We absolutely love this restaurant. We go here for all our special occasions. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for great food, excellent service and just a wonderful evening. If you have plans for the Benedum, Heinz Hall or PPG Arena, they Even offer limo service.
We had reservations for 4 at 5:00, showed up on time and were promptly seated. We quickly were given water and our drinks is were ordered and delivered in a very timely manner. Our food came out fast! We had drinks, entrees, and dessert and were finished by 6:00! My only negative comment would be it is slightly over priced for us since were are from out of town; however, it seemed pretty fair for the city. Overall we had a very nice experience and meals.
My Husband and I have been going to the Carlton for many years and have introduced a lot of friends to the restaurant. We have never had a bad meal, the food quality and taste is delightful. The service is excellent, we always request Mike, Faye or Bobby and they remember us like were a friend. The little perks like free parking and free limo service to concerts and shows is awesome. You can't go wrong with dinner at The Carlton!
The food was absolutely incredible, I had the Mahi Mahi and my girlfriend had the Halibut. Both were cooked to perfection! The staff were professional and attentive. A very pleasurable dining experience!
Everything was great. Food, service limo service. It's a great location to plays and concerts
Food was great. Limo service was terrible. Limo took my parents to PPG, but would not pick them up when the show was over. Shame on them. My 76 & 84 yr old parents should not have had to walk back to the Carlton 10:30pm!
Outstanding selections, great wine for excellent prices, service is exceptional.
The Carlton is a secret gem to both wine lovers and cultural lovers alike. Boosting, a wonderful menu, classy service, a fantastic wine cellar, and the complementary limo service to and from the cultural district and to PPG, it is a concert and theater goers dream to start the night.
I never received my points. Waitress could have been more attentive
Beautiful place! Wonderful atmosphere. The food is delicious and the staff is phenomenal. Will always visit !
