The Carlton Ratings and Reviews
Are you kidding me? The best place in Pittsburgh for food and that special service that is so hard to find! Drinks that you can actually taste the alcohol. Desserts that are so fresh! (The best banana cream pie). Not too many places like this in town. A gen!
I've lived in Pittsburgh since 1982 and have had many meals in many high quality restaurants. For whatever reason, it's been years since I've had a dinner at this place and I promise, it won't be years till I come back. One of the best meals my son and I have had in Pittsburgh.
Once again the gang of the Carlton Restaurant did not displease. The service was excellent, food incredible, professionalism of the staff all superb and superior. Kudo's to our server Russ.. Fabulous, knowledgeable and approachable. Couldn't ask for a better place to dine in Pittsburgh.
One word sums it up....EXCELLENT!
When in Pittsburgh for a show, we always dine at The Carlton. The food is good, every time, something that doesn't always happen in Pittsburgh.
Being from 100 miles out of town and rural folks that do not desire to navigate the city, being able to park under the restuarnt (for free, to boot) is extremely convenient. In addtion, being able to leave the vehicle there and take their free limo to wherever you are going, both ways, makes the trip as hassle free as possible.
The staff is not only friendly, but they understand the show schedules in the city and will get you in and out in time to make your show, all without being rushed. When we had to go earlier than expected to Heinz Hall because of unusual traffic conditions (which the staff alerted us to), we did not get to enjoy dessert. The waiter, Bobby, said to ask for him when the show was over and he would take care of that. When we arrived back, after the show, the restuarant was no longer serving, but Bobby seated us and brought my wife and I a dessert for her birthday. It was a nice touch that they didn't need to do, but one that will have us dining there anytime we find ourselves in Pittsburgh.
The Carlton always delivers for us. The warmth with which we are received, the impeccable service, the creative and imaginative offerings, the civilized and muted ambiance... all spot-on.
Can’t say enough good things about Mr. Joyce, his staff, and this treasure of a restaurant. Don’t ever go away!
This was our 4th or 5th time here. Unfortunately, it was the most disappointing visit. The atmosphere is normally quiet and romantic. In this case there was a hockey game and it was loud and boisterous. Normally the wait staff is extremely attentive, but this evening the waiter was somewhat overwhelmed and the dining experience not great. The food was only marginal after many superb meals before. The free shuttle to the theater is part of the reason we dine here and that worked again. We will definitely call this visit an anomaly and go back. Wine selection and price is outstanding.
The Carlton is an old favorite that never disappoints. The menu is dependable yet consistently enhanced by delectable daily specials. A perfect spot for business lunches or just catching up with an old friend over dinner. Even if I haven't been there for some time, the staff never fails to make me feel like family. It can be pricy, however, you definitely get what you pay for. Great overall dining experience!
When we arrived, Janet referred to me by name and what makes that special is my wife and I dine there only 3 or 4 times a year. Janet seated us at a very nice window table where my wife and I enjoyed our evening in privacy.
Our waiter Bobby gave us the the best service. We've had the pleasure of Bobby's service in the past and he is the best. We always get a chance to chat about our families and whatever else is going on with Bobby and that makes him special to us.
Our food was excellent. My wife commented to Bobby that it was the best meal she's had at the Carlton since we've been going there. She enjoyed the Halibut "cheeks" dinner.
Our evening was topped off with a complimentary desert that we enjoyed.
Thanks to Janet, Bobby and the rest of the staff at the Carlton for making our evening great.
The Carlton continues to be one of our favorite downtown restaurants. The extensive wine selection, great menu with daily specials and superb service keep us coming back. The lamb chops are the best! We highly recommend the Carlton as a great dinner venue before the theater or a hockey game.
My husband and I ate at The Carlton 3 weeks ago. Everything was perfect, so I recommended to our dinner group that we dine there Sat night. I was so embarrassed. Took forever to get cocktails the first and second time. Service was slow for everything. Our waiter acted as though we were an imposition. He never welcomed us, never made us feel comfortable. The only attentive person was a bus boy. Food was good for most, but my husband's lamb chops were practically uneatable . He didn't want to send them back because, by the time a fresh order came, the rest of us would have been finished. I must add that the salad plates were warm. Carlton salad should be served cold. Our waiter never got a personality until he delivered the check---angling, I'm sure, for a generous tip. We will never return.
Back in "The Burgh" for a wedding and we had to do dinner at one of our old favorites The Carlton. It was my wife's birthday after all, and we knew that we would find exceptional food, wine and service at The Carlton. From the drinks at the bar, to the dinner in the dining room, everything was top notch. We asked for Michael, our favorite waitstaff and sure enough, he was working this evening. It had been two years, but he remember my wife and I and treated us as if we were still his regulars. Can't say enough good things about this restaurant!
Very good as usual. You can count on the Carleton for good food, wine friendly and value meal. Love it before the Pens games. Service is friendly but can be slow.
I had the veal chop and the portion was smaller than expected. My wife had the grilled romaine salad and it was great. She also loved the scallops. We always enjoy it here.
Don't forget the shuttle service to theatre or Pens games. Nice touch.
