The Capital Grille - NY - Rockefeller Center
Book your next event with us
After a Broadway matinee, we got to the restaurant 5 minutes before it opened at 4pm. It was snowing hard in New York City and we wanted to go in to have a drink before dinner. The door was locked and the maitre d waved us off. He then came to the door and said, “We open in 5 minutes”. Instead of inviting us in to get out of the snow and wait inside for 5 minutes for the bar to open, he closed the door and walked away from us. Rather than waiting outside in the snow we walked a couple doors down to Ruth Chris where we were greeted warmly and invited to their bar. We were served by a great bartender - Gordon and spent the next hour+ not at the Capital Grille. Had we not had gift cards to Capital Grille we would have not gone back for our reservation. We went back for dinner and we were served by an outstanding waiter Ron Morgan and Mohamed the bus person. Their customer service was top shelf.
From the moment we sat down, the service was excellent. Kudos to the hostess that seated us and to Ed Sullivan - our excellent waiter.
Great overall. Angela is the most polished and fun waitress — our crew’s favorite (working nearby we are at CapGrill with groups from 2 - 20 a few times a month).
Gabe is The Bartender Extraordinaire!! Awesome drinks not to mention best in class life guidance.
Perfect for couples, birthdays and any occasions
Treated royally! Birthday acknowledged, food delicious,
Always enjoy it!
They could not have been nicer and accommodating.
Incredible service accompanied with incredible food. The server Ed Sullivan is amazing and makes you feel like you are royalty.
Great food Great service and easy to have good conversation
Our Waiter Ed Sullivan was great. A real pro. !!!
Everyone from coat check on was excellent
We will definitely return
The staff was very accommodating, we were a group of 8 that included 3 year old twins and they went above and beyond to take care of us. Sarah took care of us once it was time to get the food and drinks rolling, she was amazing!
Excellent service and meal
This is a fantastic restaurant! Great food, great service and great time - every time!
We had a great anniversary lunch.
Such a fantastic experience from start to finish.
Our server Sullivan was outstanding.
Capital Grille never disappoints We celebrated our anniversary there on Wednesday We shared two of our favorite dishes The grilled shrimp Caesar, and the lobster salad both were excellent Be sure to ask for Angela she always makes you feel special
This is our 4th visit to this location and we really enjoy the Capital Grille. The service is always consistently great and the oysters, steak tartare, rib eyes, and filet mignon are our go to choice. Our server Bill S., was outstanding and made our holiday special.
Amazing restaurant. Amazing service, amazing food!!
Our favorite spot for lunch or dinner. Amazing food and great service!
Good food but the waitress was arrogant. Had better experience before but this waitress just didnt treat us well
High end steakhouse for that special occasion
Excellent food with excellent service
This was our first holiday trip to New York with our granddaughters! We have eaten at Capital Grille in Chicago and knew we wouldn’t be disappointed! Food was fabulous, service excellent and ambiance warm and comfortable!
It was a lovely dinner to cap off our trip to New York!
Food was great apart from that the risotto served with the chicken was cold. Restaurant is large so obviously it is not quite but where we sat it was possible to talk.
Tough table to be seated at but the rest was outstanding.
The service was excellent and very accommodating. I ordered the salmon and it was dry and the vegetables were undercooked. Another person in the party ordered the tuna and liked it very much especially the sauces.
We usually go to the Cherry Hill capital grill and they do the salmon perfectly very moist.
At this branch and the other mid-town branch, I've always been highly satisfied. Noise level is a bit high, but generally tolerable although this time I was fortunate enough to be in a quieter room, which the waiter said was an "a la carte" room that is not always available - it is typically used for private parties
Waited awhile for appetizers and initial drink orders. Initial drink order took 15 minutes to arrive. Water was not refilled promptly. Food was excellent as usual.
Have dined at the Capital Grille regularly -Long Island, Las Vegas, Chicago, Tampa etc. first time at this laoaction though. I have always said to my wife that one of the things that makes the cost worth it is the service, you never have a dirty plate in from of you you beverages are always full and replace basiscally you want for nothing.
However this loacation was not up to speed -
•The server never mentioned the specials
•Never offered my wife a second soda or refill when empty
•Table was never cleared in a timely manner after each course and when cleared dirty silverware was left on the table.
•There always used to be a server refilling your water and removing plates as soon as you were done. It seems the main server was left to these tasks.
•When the kitchen server returned with the butter for my lobster, he threw it on the table in front of my wife, that doesn’t even happen in a diner.
•When a server from another table passed by, he made eye contact with me when I was saying to my wife boy they are really off their game and missing the mark tonight.
•That apparently prompted a visit from the managing partner Melissa who asked if everting was okay, in fairness to her I mentioned just the butter incident and that service was off not wanting to tick off the person who was still going to be bring our Desert.
•Bottom line is they need to provide first class service for first class prices. It would have been wise for them to offer desert as a comp.
•I normally leave a 22 to 25% tip however it was 15% this time.
•I will still frequent other Capital locations I have dined at.
•Went to Morton’s the following night and THE SERVICE WAS SPOT ON!
Our family tradition annual giant Xmas tree viewing at Rock Center, MoMA and Birthday family dinner. We come every year and end the eve with Capital Grille. This year started of a bit bumpy with our reserved table being in the corner by the bathrooms. Just about the worst seats in the entire place since we have been coming for 7 years. We’ve asked to be moved and thankfully that was possible to almost the same booth we had last year. The meal service was spotty with us hardly seeing our server. He was pleasant when we had him back at the table. Our cocktails and drinks took a long time to arrive and water-downed by the time they came. The second round almost didn’t show up which caused me to chuck it down in a rush as the meal was coming to an end. The steaks superb as usual but my lobster tails were so small they looked like over-sized crawfish tails instead of lobster. They were also so overcooked and tasted like rubber. The rest of the meal was delicious with our appetizer fried calamari with hot bell peppers so fresh the squid is moist and coating crunchy, skillfully executed. The roasted beet salad with goat cheese delightfully fresh. To credit our server he seemed to understand a few misses of our evening. He brought the check and took a couple of items off and thanked us for our patience for the evening. That’s the sign of well trained staff. We enjoyed our experience every time and at all Manhattan locations and will always return to continue our annual holiday and birthday traditions.
Great family dinner while visiting NYC. We know we can count on Capitol Grille!
To start, the restaurant did not have our reservation that we made through the open table app. Thankfully they had space and we still got to eat. I had my two kids ages 8 and 12 with me so I assume that was the reason they sat us all the way in the back in a corner. I felt that was rude because we passed many open tables in more desirable areas of the restaurant. Our waiter was pleasant and explained all of our options and we made our selections. The food was good, a bit salty, but good. The filet mignon that I ordered with the fig and mushrooms sauce was tasty but it was obvious that it was prepared the exact same way as everyone else’s steak at my table, they just threw a ready made glaze on top. Then the worst part was we were trying to eat and enjoy ourselves but the bus boy kept coming over to clear the table even when we were clearly still eating. We asked him to leave the (very expensive) food as we weren’t finished and he hurried and scurried and kept saying he’s just doing his job. So somebody obviously made this man feel the need to quickly clear tables for a faster turnaround to seat more guests. He even proceeded to throw a dirty napkin into the butter dish that we were still using and he tried to take it away. We told him to stop as it was becoming increasingly annoying. Because of this we skipped out on dessert, it was best to just leave. He honestly ruined our dinner and experience. I had higher hopes for this restaurant but sadly I will not be returning.
It was fabulous
Todo excelente. Precio un poco elevado
Amazing restaurant with delicious apps and entrées. The cocktails were great too! Highly recommend this location and well worth the money. Loved our waiter Billy. Very pleasant and informative.
I been here many times, always great service and food.
Have eaten here many times..this is the first time the service was subpar. Had to ask about specials and generally pull information from him. Seemed preoccupied elsewhere and generally not interested.
Christmas Eve lunch
All good except we were were invited to wait in the bar until the table was ready. We arrived ten minutes before opening. Suggest opening the bar a bit before the restaurant opens if you are going to wait inside.
The French 75 ordered at the table was perfect!
