The Canteen is a full-service neighbourhood restaurant in Downtown Dartmouth, serving up chef-inspired seasonal fare for lunch, brunch and dinner. At the helm in the kitchen is award-winning chef and co-owner Renee Lavallee.     Food was excellent and superb service. Ambience in restaurant was very friendly and comfortable. A tad noisy as was very busy. An extremely pleasant experience overall.

    The Canteen never disappoints! Went for Saturday brunch. The food was wonderful. The service was outstanding. We have never had a bad experience. Supporting local is so easy with great restaurants like The Canteen. Highly recommend.

    What a lovely time; delicious food, great company, wonderful service; a perfect night out. One little hiccup: noise level was really high - made it almost difficult to hear the lovely individuals I was having supper with.

    Our server was great, personable, attentive and fun. Would appreciate s&p on the table. All in including tip $100 with no alcohol. Love The Canteen. So wish they would bring back the pea risotto.

    The food was phenomenal. The server was great, however the food took a while to arrive. I would definitely recommend The Canteen.

    The food and service were very good, restaurant was very busy so it was noisy, tables are close, not a place to go if you expect to linger as you are expected to leave once you are finished eating and have paid your tab, we stayed maybe 10 minutes after we paid our bill and were politely told there was another reservation waiting

    We love sitting at the bat and chatting to the bartender while he works. He always gives us some extra attention.

    Forever a fave. Especially when hosting an out of town guest! Had a delicious meal, as always. Pan fried haddock was done like no other pan fried haddock I’ve ever had. Flavourful & unique flavours! Left room for some fantastic crème brûlée!
