The Canteen is a full-service neighbourhood restaurant in Downtown Dartmouth, serving up chef-inspired seasonal fare for lunch, brunch and dinner. At the helm in the kitchen is award-winning chef and co-owner Renee Lavallee.     Meals were hit and miss at our table of six. The spring chicken came with a lot of broth in the bottom of the bowl. Not sure what it was or why it was there. The person who had the haddock loved her's though. The heirloom carrot salad was cold - like just out of the fridge cold. Took away from the taste.

    We requested a meal for a salt restricted diet and we were exceedingly pleased with how it was handled at the Canteen. They went out of there way to accommodate. Thank you! Everything was perfect except the noise level of the patrons was high!

    My friends and I met for brunch - first time at the Canteen for all of us. Two of us had the fish cakes and they were superb. My other friend had Huevos Rancheros and he said it was great. The service was excellent. Only somewhat negative issue was the high noise level. We want to go back for lunch.
