The Café at The Chanler
The food and service were terrific. The view was spectacular.
Amazing house, outstanding view!
Loved the setting. Food was amazing and staff fabulous
Chanler was such a great experience in the past The menu is limited now- three sandwiches and limited entree. Brisket sandwich bread was so stale it was almost inedible swordfish was frozen - dried out in cooking process. Nice kids with no training. Limited staffing. Beautiful venue that I will never go back to. Someone come In And show them how they can be great again
We just love this place. The food and service couldn’t be better and of course the view is amazing! We have been here many times and have never been disappointed.
We were seated at a fabulous table on the porch. Roof protected us from the sun. Superb service. Enjoyed amazing mocktails..the best hamburger ever...beef eaters,, definitely try it..unique green salad with yummy blueberry lemon vinegarette dressing..
Sigh. I am always disappointed in the Cafe. This time the service was not very attentive and the food was mediocre for the prices, which have gotten to the point where it's not worth going, even for the fabulous view and ambiance. Our first choice was Castle Hill which has much better food and service. No wonder they were fully booked and we managed to get a reservation at the Cafe on Folk Festival weekend!
The hotel was beautiful, the bar was excellent although pricey. The ambiance was great other then the memorial highway. Food was fair at best.
Amazing location and service. Food was great, too.
From the moment we sat, we were forgotten. Given a perfect table with a great view, yet nobody paid any attention to us. It took 40 minutes for our wine to arrive, which was ordered shortly after being seated. Then when it was determined that the original order couldn’t be fulfilled, instead of an apology, all we received were excuses from an arrogant and condescending Captain. I didn’t care that they didn’t have the wine, hardly a big deal. What annoyed me was that instead of saying we are sorry for keeping you waiting, I heard a story about how difficult it was for them to source the wine. Give me a break! Our server was overwhelmed and then relieved by another server, equally overwhelmed. Courses arrived before the dishes from the previous course were removed. My wife was actually asked to help clear the table. Not once did anyone come to refill water, until asked. At no time did anyone approach to see how we were doing, whether we were enjoying the meal, or if we needed anything. I believe that once it was understood that our experience was poor, we were abandoned and considered a lost cause. There was no longer an expectation for a good gratuity, or any gratuity at all. Btw, the tip was more than generous for the overall experience.
My husband and I's experience eating lunch at The Chanler Cafe was exquisite. We made our reservation for after our tour of The Breakers, and it was the perfect way to wrap up our afternoon. They seated us in a love seat facing the ocean, which was special and - dare I say - romantic! We ordered 6 oysters (the freshest I've had in a long time!), a salad (which they split for us) and the freshly baked bread. All was delectable and plenty to satisfy us. The staff was friendly and very attentive. I savored every last sip of the French Pear Martini I ordered, I highly recommend! For us, the bill was well worth the breathtaking views and overall experience of dining at as lovely a property as The Chanler.
We had the family style menu prix fixe for $180.
The first course, melon and serrano was o more than an amouse bouche portion. The raw tuna for two was underseasoned - missed salt, missed flavor. The whole lobster was combined with potatoes, greens and an overwhelming flavor of bacon. Nothing of the lobster flavor came though - drowned in bacon flavor.
The dessert was an egg flavored icecram scoop, salty popcorn and a salty hazelnut cake. An impossible combination.
Service was good, the place is gorgeous- this menu was simply off base. An wvening to forget. Sorry...
The food and service were excellent. Of course, the view was awesome!
Excellent food, consistently delicious, views of the ocean are splendid!
Portions are on the small side, but didn’t bother us (constantly dieting). The desserts are to die for!
We were looking forward to an enjoyable lunch in this beautiful restaurant and sadly it was a disappointment. It took 12 or more minutes for someone to acknowledge us and they were surprised that we wanted to have something to drink and place an order. Two of my guest ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and there was no cheese in the sandwich. The other food was just mediocre. Very disappointing and we had the same experience at Castle Hill I don’t know what’s going on in this city regarding restaurants. No one seems to care and it’s like a surprise that you want to have food and drinks in their restaurant.
It was a great experience. Can’t wait to return. Very fresh food and cooked perfectly.
Wonderful afternoon celebrating our anniversary. Everything was lovely!
Realizing it’s a very tough summer to get help, but I’ve always had good service there until last night. Truly disappointing, but a lovely view. We will be back after the summer.
Great atmosphere and location. Drinks and food are a bit pricey but we had a wonderful dinner.
The Chanler has it all--outstanding food, attentive service, a sublime setting and a spectacular view!
We visit every year for our anniversary and it's always lovely!
Excellent food, ambiance and service but very expensive. The women's bathroom however is fully five stars! You will want to see it as it's stunningly beautiful!
Long wait time for food
Wonderful ambiance and service
Just remember that you are paying for the view and you will be fine. The food was mediocre at best.
Great service Excellent waiter
They lost gas so limited the menu rather than adding more cold items to the menu. Salads weren’t even offered. We only stayed for drinks since the food selection was so poor.
The food is fantastic and they were very attentive. It was chilly due to the weather changing and the room not being equipped to accommodate colder weather.
Celebrated 1 year until our wedding, and it was the perfect pick. Food, drink, service, ambience and the views were perfectly on point. On top of that everything was pretty cost effective. Can’t wait to go back.
Beautiful beautiful place. Has a small lunch menu but the fish was really good
Easily one of the top 3 experiences in food, views and staff!
Wonderful food, outstanding view! Excellent service and great ambiance.
Fantastic Choice for Fathers Day dinner on the porch of the Chanler! Food was obviously made with fresh ingredients and exquisite presentation; service was warm and inviting, and timed at the perfect pace.
Million dollar view. The menu changes from week to week (at least the weeks we have gone) and it is always a treat when your meal arrives. Chicken dish I had was excellent.
We had the best seats facing the water. It was beautiful! Food was a bit pricy but delicious.
Great service, beautiful location. One of Newport’s best restaurants. The food and drinks were excellent.
Absolutely amazing! The hostesses were extremely friendly and accommodating. We had a martini to start in the bar that was made to perfection. Next we were greeted by the food and beverage GM and bought to a table with an amazing view. Our servers were extremely knowledgeable about the menu and wine list and their recommendations were spot on! The appetizers were excellent, followed by an amazing main course. The we concluded with berries, whip cream and chambord. Closed with espresso martinis! Absolutely amazing and the best restaurant in Newport!
Brought our two year old along to celebrate our anniversary in the place we got married. They accommodated her well despite its upscale orientation. Views of the ocean, gardens and convenience of the Cliffwalk are still amazing. While pricey, it delivers on great food and plenty of atmosphere. Fabulous place for a small, quality wedding!
Honestly it was horrible. Maybe because of Covid they are not back to a groove yet but the food, service and ambiance was poor. I won’t be back anytime soon.
