   This was my first visit to the Buttery since the ownership changed. We had a party of six and most enjoyed their dinners. However one person in our group was not pleased as she had to ask our waiter what to have the chef cook her filet more as it was too rare. When it came back there was not much difference and she did not eat her meal but requested the entree to be removed from our check which it was. Two in our group had the swordfish which was delicious, one other had the duck, filet and I can't remember the last entree. The side dishes were a nice variety and the portions were generous.

   The Buttery was, until this trip, our favorite dining spot in Lewes. We often spend our anniversary at the beach and have enjoyed celebrating it at the Buttery. But the new Buttery/menu is just not the same (they've switched owners since we were there last). Our food was quite good but not at all good enough to warrant the price, and the portions were ridiculous. We're used to quite nice restaurants, so it isn't just a matter of not understanding how finer dining works. $17 dollars for an octopus appetizer that, while quite tasty, had at best 2 ounces of octopus. That's probably a generous estimate. We're looking for a new favorite place for celebrations at the beach. This just wasn't what we were used to, the menu didn't click for us, the food was hit and miss (back off on the overly salty Ramen broth on the scallops, Chef!) and the Buttery no longer seems worth the expense. Disappointing.

   Horrible. Used to go to brunch all the time under previous ownership. It was fantastic THEN. New ownership has ruined The Buttery. Raised prices. Lowered food quality. Our food arrived cold and tasteless. Will never go back.

   We were very excited to try the Buttery but nothing was good. We waited for our entrees for 2 hours and all 6 of them were ice cold. Our steaks all had pats of butter on top of them but the steaks were so cold they didn't melt at all. All of our steaks were way under cooked. We sent them back and they returned one and a half minutes later still cold. At that point we were fed up and decided to send everything back and asked to see the manager. We were told he'd gone home for the night and the head server came. We barely got an apology and she said she'd take the entrees off the bill. We were still charged for the the appetizers and the drinks. There was no real offer to make things right. Very disappointed!

   Took four friends to dinner for my 63rd birthday Everyone described it afterwards as a "perfect" evening Only glitch is that several of the wines listed were not in fact available

   The menu changed with new owners. All of our party had eggs for brunch. You don't get even a crust of toast to dip in your eggs... unless your "over easy" eggs are fried solid. We did complain and we were offered a new order of eggs, because the other members of our party were done their meals our guest decided against it. Our waiter told us that he would credit our check for the meal. The check came and we were given an $8 credit just for the eggs. In addition to this mishap we were also overcharged on our bill. Instead of the $24.95 pre fix per person we were charged À la cart prices. The brunch was not good. As local residents we like to support local businesses. Unfortunately there are other restaurants worthy of our dining dollars.

   Sunday Brunch was wonderful! The menu offered lots of options, and included a beverage (mimosa, bloody mary or champagne), appetizer choice and main course choice. Our food was delicious -- a wonderful beet, arugula and goat cheese salad, pastries, crabcakes and eggs benedict -- The bernaise was amazing! Our waiter, Chris, was delightful, the ambiance was perfect, and our meal was a great value for the price.

   The Buttery may very well be my favorite restaurant in Delaware. I've returned each time during a different season having dinner for two each time. The menu is well rounded and the food from appetizer to desert has always and I mean always been excellent. The wait staff is knowledgeable of what is on the menu and very polite and attentive. The ambiance is warm and intimate enough to have a romantic dinner. I honestly use The Buttery to compare all other restaurants at the shore. A few come close , but none have equalled the overall dining experience. The prices reflect the quality of what you'll be served and because of it you certainly are getting what you pay for here. I suggest putting your dinner in the hands of the Chef with the chef's 7 course dinner and prepare yourself for a wonderful dinner.
