The Butcher Shop
Inspired by the travels of Chef Barbra Lynch's travels throughout Europe, The Butcher Shop celebrates all that the old world boucheries of Europe had to offer. A combination of a full-service butcher shop and a wine bar, The Butcher Shop offers menus that both represent and celebrate Italian and French cuisine. While lunch and dinner specials change on a daily basis, some of the most well-known and loved dishes include terrines, steaks, antipasti and a selection of pasta.

The place was exactly as advertised. The service was attentive and helpful selecting a great wine within our price range ($60-70). My steak (16 oz. prime ribeye) was cooked a perfect rare with a nice outer crust. My girlfriend ordered the Tagliatelle Bolognese which she also enjoyed immensely. Overall an awesome experience and we hope to be back soon.
Hi: love Butcher Shop...especially tomato soup. Ravioli were hard on the edges...not perfect.
Wine and warm bread and butter also excellent.
We were on a "Barbara Lynch" weekend , visiting 5 of the restaurants in the "Company". The Butcher shop was outstanding! Taylor took awesome care of us, the food was outstanding and it had a warm, inviting, neighborhood feel. I wish I lived in Boston, The Butcher Shop would become our weekend brunch hot spot (or any other meal)….
Perfect - my date loved it
The service was a bit slow and the restaurant seemed understaffed. However the food completely made up for it and it was the best three course meal I have had in Boston. My new favorite restaurant in town!
Friendly and prompt service. All the waitstaff were very knowledgeable regarding the extensive wine menu.
We always enjoy our meals at The Butcher Shop, and the wine pairings are excellent!
The food was good but not excellent. Reviewers raved about the bolognese but it was a bit lacking and no where near as good as other highly rated restaurants. The rabbit lasagnette was good but was ground rabbit and not really detectable. Portions are extremely small and very pricey.
Valet took 1/2 hour to get our car.
The food was really not good this time. The Pasta was not salted at all, the stake was hard to eat and the eggplant was hard as well and not cooked through. We have been there several time but this time was very disappointing. The prices are too high for what is served. Abience is very nice though.
The food was okay and the service okay. This has been a great place to go to previously. Maybe this was just an off night
our main course was served cold--we sent it back twice and on the 3rd attempt it was still bad.
👍🏼🙏🏼👏🏻🤙🏼 Awesome time
My husband and I went in on Sunday night celebrating his new job! Our server took increible care of us and the food was top notch. Can't wait to get back there!
My friend and I had another great time at The Butcher Shop. The bolognese is simply one of my favorite dishes of all time, as is the coconut cake. Even the bread is something to look forward to. MIchaela took great care of us and super-engaging and friendly.
The food was 100% amazing. We had the duck and prime sirloin. It will be hard to find a better prepared steak and fowl.
I had a 7:30 reservation and was really looking forward to it, got there 7:25 and was told there was only one table left and it was immediately next to the door. The waitress had very little interest in making us feel welcome, we ordered , received a cold entree of pork and never received one of our side dishes. Dessert was never offered........ it was very disappointing. The door kept being opened letting cold air in..... don’t go!
Amazing wine selection and very delicious food.
Small portions for the price, but quality over quantity. Super delicious spot!
We had the Tuscan kale salad, which was very good and flavorful. Only beef was the paltry portion. Porcini Fagottini were underdone and really lacked the depth of flavor you would expect the ingredients to bring. Confit duck was excellent. Lovely bottle was the special of the day and delicious. My friends shared the 32 oz rib eye and ordered it med-rare. It arrived basically super rare/raw and had it fired some more. It was better but still very, very rare-not med-rare. Also, the cut of meat was really quite underwhelming. We are big Pat LaFrieda steak fans and this was so inferior and for $125 it was ridiculous. I'm all in favor of paying for a really good quality steak, but when it is never done quite the way you want and is not the best cut of meat, well I think that was a big downer for us all and would never order that again. I'd go back but stay away from the large beef.....
the place is adorable. wait staff attentive, wine list perfect. the tenderloin was ridiculously good. we came down from essex and will make the trip again soon!
We went there to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Upon sitting down, they brought us over a couple of glasses of sparkling wine wishing us a happy anniversary which was a very nice way to start the evening. The charcuterie board was delicious. The waiter was very helpful in helping select a wine to match my wife's taste. The main course was good although the kitchen was a little heavy handed with the salt in our opinion. Everything was quite salty. My tenderloin was cooked perfectly and was very delicious. My wife likes her steak well done and it took a second attempt (and they handled it very well offering to remove it from the bill although we refused to let them do so) to get it right but it was also a good cut of meat. Dessert was very good as well. Overall it was a very nice experience and a great anniversary dinner.
We had a great time with friends. However I didn’t feel the meal lived up to the hype or the price tag. Steak tartare was fantastic. The Bolognese and steak were just okay, which is what they’re supposed to be known for. Also they don’t have a full bar. They have a few special cocktails but you can’t order a gin and tonic or bourbon on the rocks 🤷🏼♀️
For the price paid definitely not worth it. I ordered the $60 steak. it Was a combination of not tender (hard to cut) and too chewy, and as a result under cooked. That would have been ok had it been a properly aged steak but it clearly wasn’t. It was sadly clear that they did not give the protein it’s due diligence- and not worthy the $60. The salt crusting was tasty. Other than that the food was good but not particularly better than any other new American style restaurant. Service was ok, they tried to give us a horrible table by the prep station and were then relatively helpful. They certainly were nice and apologetic about the steak. We sent it back to be cooked more so that it was less tough.
We love the steak here, so good!
High tables are not very comfortable, especially with a little baby, but overall a fantastic place where we will love to go back!
Food was great -on par if not better than the big fancy steakhouses with a much nicer neighborhood atmosphere!
Loved the new windows fully opened to the street.
Best dinner in Boston! Cool atmosphere but more importantly everything we had was a 10!
The Butcher Shop is always amazing. Great cocktails and wine and the service is impeccable! Best steak tartare and the duck was to die for. Every time I go back, this place is better than the last.
Amazing food, amazing wine, and really knowledgeable staff! We will definitely be back. The space is super intimate and has a strong emphasis on their wine bar and meat cuts. The perfect spot for after work drinks and charcuterie selections!
Loved the butcher shop. We sat at the bar, windows and doors wide open on a beautiful summer evening. We ordered from the Dine out Boston menu and loved it all. Squash salad was delicious and sirloin was cooked to perfection. Nicholas at the bar was wonderful bartender and server. So jealous of folks who live in the South end and have incredible places like the Butcher shop right outside their doorstep!
Delicious food. We love coming here. Love the location too.
The Butcher Shop is legendary and Ive always wanted to go. I took my fiance who isn't accustomed to fine dining. I know Barbara Lynch's reputation and wanted to give my fiance a special experience. She was BLOWN AWAY. Sarah, our sever, helped us with every course and in choosing proper wine pairings. We had an amazing time and will be making this a regular evening out.
Perfect neighborhood hood spot with 5 star quality food in a comfortable setting. Service is impeccable, drinks and wine selection are as perfect as the food. I would advise that you skip the fancy steakhouses to experience a true “cut above” steak with so much more to offer.
The Butcher Shop is advertising a special "Burgers and Beers" through Labor Day. It's not that special. Essentially, they are including 3 burgers paired with a suggested beer on their regular menu. It's also not a special price. The burgers aren't even that special. Everyone at our table was shocked when they came out and the bun overshadowed the burger. It also came with some baby greens. No fries, no other vegetables with the greens. With the beer pairing and tip, my small burger and greens was almost $40. Not a good value and not a special. We all left a little bit hungry, which is terrible considering the cost.
It makes me wonder why they label on their website that this is a special and that it is served with a limited a la carte menu. They gave us the full menu. Overall, I was disappointed in the experience.
What a difference to last time! Awesome service!
Thank you so much!
Kerstin
Winnie is an outstanding server! She has enthusiasm, listens and responds to our requests easily and efficiently.
Took my husband for dinner - was great for his low carb diet. We had great service, fantastic wines and a wonderful time.
The restaurant is very small and uncomfortable. Poor layout and use of space. Appetizers (prosciutto and salami) were delicious as were the drinks. Entrees were poorly prepared (both meats over cooked-duck skin was burnt) and very salty. Desserts were okay (coconut cake had good flavor but not moist) but not worth the price. Service was poor, but bartender was efficient and polite. I would not recommend dinner, maybe drinks after work.
We were disappointed. It was a warm evening and there was no air conditioning. The windows were open, but there wasn't any breeze. The table we were shown to was set up for one. We assumed another set-up would be coming, but the bread came, the antipasti came but still no napkin, utensils, small plate for me.
When we asked the server, her response was "Sure", no apology or even acknowledgement that we had been left without the obvious. My partner's steak was well cooked and tender. My veal chop was heavily breaded with lots of fat and bone, under seasoned. All in all, pretty mediocre for the price.
nice table near window but very mediocre service from our server
