The Butcher Bar
This continues to be one of our favorite dining experiences in Philadelphia. Dining late (almost 10) they did not rush us through the menu. The boards were great, as well as their sausages and meatballs. My only criticism would be that if you consider yourself a bourbon bar, then you need to have it in stock. They have a very good selection on their menu, but they were out of a lot.
The food and drink were OUTSTANDING. The hostess was super accommodating and friendly. Very anxious to return. The only negative was the server was a bit argumentative about a special menu item that was listed that night and never acknowledged it later or apologized. It was bad form. Otherwise, a stellar meal and evening.
Took first available reservation for morning. We were on our way to baptism and figured we had enough time. Unfortunately it took about 1 hour to get our meal—eggs and BLT sandwich. Disappointing.
Butcher Bar has one of my favorite brunches in the city. The interior is beautiful and the food is SO good! Great service, too!
We have been there twice. The first time it was quiet and the food was good. This time the noise was unbearable. Two separate parties were so loud that the four of us could not communicate. Granted the space is small and we have been to other noisy places but this was really bad.
Service was excellent, wedge salad good, hamburger royal fine , the wild boar ribs great but the Martini was not good. Would think twice about returning because of the noise.
The food was great! Lucy our server was fantastic and promptly attentive. It was however chilly with the window open upstairs, but that’s ok.
Friendly menu and server made this dinner great. Food was amazing and wish I could have tried more.
Excellent restaurant, food is top notch. Id recommend the korean short ribs, the hen, and the PB bison burger... but everything was amazing. Great selection of whiskeys a d bourbons. Our server Malik was amazing, very knowledgeable and an awesome personality. This will be my new spot.
Awesome food. Delicious desert. Waitstaff made several mistakes and a little awkward in their demeanor
Seriously amazing food. My jaw dropped after tasting every dish. The Italian meatballs, the royale with cheese and the Gouda mac and cheese is mouthwatering deliciousness. Go. Now.
Food was beyond delicious. Our server, Arnold, went above and beyond. We will definitely be back!
Place was a bit smoky but I will definitely come back. Carnivore’s delight!
Advertised a special Cinco de Mayo menu starting at 12noon (we arrived 1230pm). Server said the pork would not be ready for at least another 30 minutes. We ordered something else, food was ok, but we planned our entire day around the Cinco de Mayo midday meal. When we finished and paid our check, at 130pm the pork was still not ready.
The food and service here is always fantastic.
Excellent portions for the price. Cute spot. Good service, good food. I would definitely return, as well as recommend others to visit.
Overall - Very aesthetic place, with mouth watering food and great service. I took my brother here for a little celebratory dinner on wednesday. Although nothing speical was done on the dessert or anything (I don't think our server was made aware), he enjoyed his experience from start to finish. Our server, Porchia deserves 5 stars just for her attitude. She was so pleasent, informative, and got us everything we needed as quickly as she could. We were seated on the patio at the corner table so it was a little out of the way because she also had several tables in the middle dining room. My only constructive criticism is that they should be more staffed. Had our server actually had the time to be more attentive I can only imagine how much better our already great meal would have been. The food did take a little on the longer side to come out, however, no complaints because again, it was super busy and the food still managed to come out hott and delicious. Overall, the staff from host to busser was excellent. Friendly and welcoming to the point where you want to go back just for the coziness.
Food wise - I HIGHLY reccommend starting off with the housemade beef jerky and the yards IPA sausage. Everything that we ordered, down to the dessert, was full with flavor that satisfied instantly. We're looking forward to revisiting in two weeks to try the rest of the menu!
Service wise - Again, Porchia was EXCELLENT. I manage a restaraunt and it is SO easy for servers to get frantic when they have a full section let alone two. This young lady kept her composure and a smile on her face throughout the evening. Had it not been for her conducting herself the way she did, our experience easily could have been a negative one during the busy time. Porchia was knowledgable, sweet, and exactly what every restaraunt would needs in a server.
Delicious twist on classic recipes. Casual and fun atmosphere. Service was great.
Third time there, always amazing
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Philly, and the service and food is usually on point! I was slightly disappointed by the food, however. First, they wouldn't let me substitute a different side instead of fries. Second, I ordered the peanut butter bacon bison burger, and it came with very little peanut butter and no bacon! So I had to wait for the waiter to come back to get it fixed.
First time here, and it wont be my last! Everything was phenomenal, our group of four ended up sharing everything. The Royale with cheese, meatballs, ribeye steak, mac n cheese...all amazing!
Amazing food and service!!!
Hidden gem for a casual Sunday brunch. We found the bar to be comfortable and the selection of beers on tap to be varied and numerous. The lunch quality was good, the reasonable cost of the brunch was excellent. I would strongly recommend this establishment.
Service was not optimal. There was a significant delay in bringing out 2 out of 5 meals. As a former server I would have been reprimanded for bringing out food when the entire order is not ready. Service 101. Also we had to ask three different people for ketchup for my dad because presumably the first two people forgot. Food was pretty good, just perhaps a bit understaffed for Sunday brunch.
I normally have a great experience at The Butcher Bar, but this past weekend I did not. The food was wonderful as usual; we enjoyed a slab of bacon, meatballs, sausage, macaroni and cheese, and garlic bread. All very, very good.
The service, however, was atrocious. Right from the start our waiter seemed to care more about his tables outside, than ours inside. After much of our food was delivered, he did not come back once to see how we were doing, which would’ve given him the opportunity to address the fact that two dishes we ordered were missing. When we finally flagged him down, to his credit, he admitted he forgot to put those dishes into the kitchen. One member of our party also ordered a drink at this time. Once again, he disappeared, not once asking if everything was okay or bringing the drink we ordered. This was par for the course...didn’t clear our table of empty dishes/bottles or ask if we wanted more drinks the whole night.
We flagged him down again to bring us the check. No apologies or anything.
The food and drinks are out of this world! Butcher board is a must.
The French toast were delicious, as were the pancakes. The fried chicken benedict was okay. Yokes weren’t runny, chicken was missing some seasoning or something but was very tender. Great coffee and service. Would definitely go again.
We came from out of town and was looking to have a nice dinner for a little date night Friday. I had been looking at places on Yelp- and Butcher Bar caught my eye. I am not a super adventurous eater, and a lot of restaurants I was seeing had some interesting appetizers and entrees that I would not be brave enough to try (duck, lamb, octopus etc). Butcher Bar had some unique items on their menu as well, but also plenty of other things. When we arrived it was smaller than I expected but you could just tell that you were about to have a good meal. The cocktail I tried was amazing and the meals were INCREDIBLE. My husband had a 45 day aged steak and I had Boar ribs (which was pretty adventurous for me) with a peach bbq salsa and jalepeno cornbread. We also got a side of gouda mac n cheese- and OH MY GOD it was such a delicious meal. All of it. We were so full but wanted to try dessert because we were sure that would be amazing too. Got a skillet chocolate chip cookie with nutella and topped with vanilla ice cream- and it was also delicious. Perfect night! Highly recommend- and would definitely give it another visit if we find ourselves back in Philly!
Not many folks who are vegetarians would take their 15-year-old son to a place called the butcher bar for his birthday but what a wonderful experience we had! The food was nothing short of delicious. Highly recommend the pretzel monkey bread, the mac & cheese, and the hipster meatballs. Stunningly good across-the-board! My son had the bison burger and barely left a crumb on his plate. Add to that exceptional service and a very cool ambience, and you have the makings for a great dinner out. When we come back to Philadelphia, the butcher bar will be high on our list.
Super yummy food and a great atmosphere! Would definitely go back!
Service was good, food came out quickly and we weren't rushed out after eating. Food was great, only minor complaint would be that as a breakfast/brunch item, toast would be a nice inclusion.
My fiance and I go to Butcher Bar often and we love it. The food is amazing and the service spectacular. We took his parents for brunch yesterday and they really enjoyed their meals. Will continue to recommend and visit when its warm. Dying to try the patio!
Had the turkey club and iced tea. Both were delicious. Good, fast service. Great for work lunch.
Not as busy as I thought it would be on a Thursday Lunchtime. Drinks Perfect, Food Fantastic, Service Adequate and Friendly! Second time having lunch and both experiences GREAT!
Third time there, food was great. Service was lacking a bit, but I think we had a new server who was also training someone even newer. They had us seated out back with a wobbly table and outside heaters in one corner that were just blasting. It wasn't my favorite eating environment. I'll still go back, but while it's still cooler outside, I'll ask to be seated inside.
Great food and excellent service!
My wife and I had a great time here for lunch. The food was excellent, service was prompt and friendly, and the space itself was really nice. Our only complaint was that the noise level was insane for their only being about 5 tables in use. The acoustics are just horrible, which is why I think it was so hard to hear each other when we talked. Other than the noise, it was great. I’d still recommend it.
We had a great evening at the Butcher Bar. The only suggestion I would make is to offer a smaller prime rib on Sunday at a reduced price. I would have liked to order it, but could never eat a pound serving and did not want to spend $45 for my entree either.
Menu lacked diversity and food was very salty. Great cocktail menu.
Best bang for your buck kind of restaurant. If you're a meat lover, this restaurant was totally made for you. I was craving a nice steak and for the stuff you get with the 16 oz dry-aged rib-eye, it makes it totally worth the 45$. You also get a lot of seasonable vegetables to go with your meat, which makes you feel a little less guilty! It was one of the best steaks I have had- in comparison to other steakhouses in NY and PHL. Also, my other favorite side dishes were the truffle/parm crust bone marrow and the portabella mushroom dish. The ambiance was very cute. I've been meaning to visit this restaurant and I don't regret it. The chef literally makes your food in 0 to 60 mph. I came starving and I expected to wait a while b/c all food needs to be prepared within a reasonable time frame, but they over exceeded my expectations. Drinks were great. Great menu design. The little graphic designer in me is pleased. And I will definitely visit them again in warmer weather to eat in the patio area :) .
Last minute decision for Sunday brunch. We got a table right away. Food was excellent. Waiter very friendly, but, service was SLOW. There were only 3 active tables in our section during our visit and we didn't order anything extravagant. Took almost two hours from seating to paying the check. Dinner menu looked really good, so, we'd give it another try.
