I visited this restaurant in October and ordered the seafood trough, which was outstanding. Because of this, I decided to return to get the trough again this past weekend, however, the seafood one was not offered. On the menu was a mini trough, which my companion and I intended to order.
The toughs are offered based on availability. I called the restaurant three days prior to my reservation to ensure that we could order it. It was explained that it may be available, but I had to ask when I got there. Fine. There were other items on the menu that we were interested in ordering if the mini trough was unavailable.
On the night of the reservation, we arrived on time and were seated immediately. We were taken to the rear patio, which was enclosed and heated. The heaters were in the ceiling above the table and were stifling hot! We could barely breathe. They turned the heat off, which made it much more comfortable.
When it was time to order, we asked the server about the trough, as advised. Unavailable. We tried to order the items that we were interested in trying. At least 4 out of the 7 things we were willing to try, they ran out of! We settled for the burger, garlic bread, chicken sandwich, and bacon slab. The bacon was delicious. The burger was good, but cold. The fries were tasty, but cold. The garlic bread was mediocre but also dry, and one piece was way over toasted. The chicken sandwich was absolutely horrible- it lacked flavor- was supposed to a sriracha slaw, which was almost undetectable- no spice! The chicken was not crispy and was under seasoned, and the paprika aioli was underwhelming.
We told the server that the food was not what we expected and that we initially came for the trough. He told us that if we called ahead, we would have been able to get it. We called THREE DAYS AHEAD! Needless to say, we were disappointed. We traveled all the way from Maryland for this. Well, we won't be back.... Nice server, though.
Way overpriced for the quality.
The food and service were great, however they are not a COVID safe environment. Their outdoor seating is one giant tent in the back, and they did not take temperatures. We sat next to a group of around 8 people who were yelling the entire time. We almost left due to feeling very unsafe.
The food was great! Softest and richest gnocchi I've ever had. The drinks will get you on a nice buzz
The food was good, and the drinks were excellent. I would recommend for a casual, comfortable night out.
Felt good to actually be out to have dinner. Ordered from the prix fixe menu and the lobster bisque and strip steak were both great. Salute to the waitstaff who were excellent as well.
Delicious food! Cute atmosphere and great service!
Outdoor dining as we are experiencing high numbers in PA. Went because they specifically advertised as having outdoor seating on Open Table App.
Thought the food was way over priced. Tasted like it was reheated. Bacon slab app was all fat and short rib was way too salty.
Food was excellent! Super nice outdoor dining. Service was great!
My boyfriend and I got the pre-fixe menu and it was the perfect value. The tomato soup was delicious and the short rib appetizer (can't remember the full name) was amazing!!!! I would go back just to order a couple of those!
Everything was great! We will definitely be back!
Place is great, cool atmosphere, good food. Great happy hour spot for when the pandemic is behind us.
One of the best places in town for sure!
Great place
the server didn’t wear his mask over his nose
I hate writing bad reviews but I’d just like to put this warning out there. We had never been here before and heard it was amazing! We decided to go and see what all the hype was about. I booked a day in advance, and every thing seemed great. 15 minutes before our 7:30 reservation, as we were already driving over, I get a call explaining that due to a high number of reservations they had to bump us out front with no heat lamp. It was cold and windy and the food was hot for only about 5 minutes making it unenjoyable to even eat. As groups left from the back patio, nobody offered to move us or offered any sort of free dessert. We paid just as much if not more for our meal as those who got to sit on the back patio with the heat lamps, but had to take our food home and reheat it just to make it enjoyable. Be careful when booking here as they overbook for the amount of heat lamps they have and may last minute bump you if somebody else wants your table.
The food was delicious—especially the brussel sprouts and the royale—and our server friendly/helpful, but the lighting in the middle room (in between the entrance/bar and the patio) was so harsh and not at all comfortable. It was SO bright we felt like we were in a school cafeteria. I feel like dimming the lights slightly would really provide a better atmosphere overall :-)
We were really impressed. The wild boar ribs were very different than normal pork ribs, but wonderfully prepared and the bbq sauce was distinct and well done. Being from the Midwest, I've been wholly disappointed with ribs around here - and these were delicious (though also not like traditional ribs, as noted).
We also had the strip steak - we ordered medium rare, but it came out medium, so be careful if you are very strict about your well-done-ness.
Finally, we had the one dessert - a cookie in a pan with a scoop of ice cream. We weren't expecting much, but it was fantastic as well.
Amazing service drinks and food , great patio
We made a reservation for 10:15pm and I wasn’t made aware that they close at 11pm until I was being seated at my table. No restaurant should take a reservation if the guest only has 45 mins to dine. The whole experience is ruined because you’re being rushed to chug the one drink you had time to order and inhale your food, leaving no time for proper conversation with the person you came with.
As someone who works in the industry, a guest should have no less than 1hr and 30 mins to sit and enjoy the food and atmosphere, otherwise it’s a waste of time and money. They should either extend their closing time or shorten their reservation window.
The service was exceptional. The food came out quick and was piping hot. The wedge salad was one of the best salads I’ve had in a long time! If you love fresh blue cheese crumbles you have to get this, the ingredients were so fresh. The cornbread is amazing and for dessert definitely get the warm chocolate chip cookie with the ice cream. Its served in a skillet and is so good you will love it.
Everything was wonderful!! We were just disappointed that they were out of three different things that we were really looking forward to.
We ate outdoors in the extended outdoor area. Sitting at picnic tables for several hours was a little uncomfortable but that was our only complaint. Food was excellent! Drinks off the menu were very good. Standard bar drinks were just okay—a little sweet. Service was excellent.
Our party of 4 was looking forward to trying this place and having a nice outdoor get together for dinner and drinks. I put a lot of thought into finding a good restaurant with a nice outdoor setting. I made the reservation a few days in advance . When we got there , we were seated out front on the sidewalk at a wobbly table.... We asked to move out back and they would not accommodate. The atmosphere was terrible and we were disappointed. We did enjoy the food and the service was just average.
Great vibe. Back porch was very cool. Royale with cheese lives up to expectations.
Great food, did not end up getting the charcuterie board that we ordered but ended up being the perfect amount of food
If you are a meat lover butcher bar is definitely worth going to
They were out of the Butcher Board (cheese and meat platter) on a Saturday night at 7:15 p.m. It was the primary reason we went there and a "Butcher Bar" out of cured meats for a charcuterie board seemed odd to us. We got some other appetizers instead. Smoke Gouda mac and cheese excellent...others just average. Cocktails were uneven. One was great but when we ordered the same cocktail a second time..it tasted completely different.
Great place to enjoy incredible tasting food without all the noise and great service!
Good food, better whiskey
The food wasn’t very good, and it was over priced for such bad food.
Food was very good. Everything was well prepared and very flavorful. Desert was a bit lacking but the appetizers and main course were spot on. The service left a bit to be desired. The servers weren't rude but they definitely weren't very warm and welcoming. It felt like they really just wanted to get paid and go home, but hey I was still served properly so it's no big deal.
Great menu and atmosphere. Really welcoming and friendly team!
The mac and cheese was bland and the service was okay but the drinks were great! We were able to eat indoors but because the doors were open, there were flies everywhere. It was hard to enjoy our food and time together swatting and killing flies.
The food here was decent, hangar steak flavorful and tender. Board ribs delicious! Pasta and sausage good. Hamburgers good. Desserts were very disappointing. Bread pudding was cold and dense and not sweet enough. The chocolate chip cookie seemed to be missing the Nutella. The pumpkin cheesecake was just ok.
We enjoyed the casual ambiance. And tables were spaced very well. But the service was pretty low level and rushed. They served dessert before the table was cleared - my husband wasn’t even done eating his main course. The servers reached across us to place and remove plates.
We wouldn’t object to returning, but we won’t be planning a return any time.
First time at Butcher Bar, will definitely be back...I had the duck wings they were really good and the portion was a good size. They have some really amazing crafted cocktails. The patio seating has a good vibe it’s like being indoors and outdoors at the same time. Strongly recommend Butcher Bar.
Was not impressed with service.. though food smelt good and the appetizer we had was the delicious.. at $14 a drink, and $32 for an appetizer, we received service from a counter clerk from Wendy’s.. also picnic tables outside.. go here for beer, and meat.. not on a date..
Another great experience, -this time for restaurant week. The best of the Restaurant Week Menu for our group TLDR was:
Cocktails: The Butterfly Effect and Butchers Punch
1st Course: Duck Wings and Monkey Bread
2nd Course: Royale with Cheese (Cheeseburger), Hangar Steak
3rd Course: Bread Pudding (by far!)
We were seated outdoors in their back area which was perfect for our party of 5. Our server was attentive and gave accurate recommendations after hearing our general preferences. Will definitely return.
The food was good. I was disappointed because I came for restaurant week but they weren’t participating on the day we went but that was not advertised on their website
Our fruit literally came out with mold on it
