Smoked boar ribs were great, tender and tangy but was slathered in BBQ sauce, the 16oz ribeye was amazing, gamey, well seasoned, and tender. Do not order the butchers punch cocktail unless you like mountain dew code red, HI-C, Hawaiian punch or the like
Normally I like the bacon appetizer but this time it was just too fatty and not enough meat. It was disappointing.
Server had her back turned to us at the computer station for 10 minutes at least. Didn’t come back to table to ask if we needed anything for 15. Food was fine. It was incredibly hot in the patio.
I’ve been here twice now and the food is good, I’ve had the Italian meatballs and linguine, the burger, but this last time we tried the Mac n cheese which came out cold and bland. If it weren’t so darned cold in the restaurant (and I’m talking about INDOOR seating) we may return, but sitting inside with puffy coats on zipped up trying to enjoy a meal just isn’t my idea of a nice time. There are also plastic barriers between the tables, but they aren’t long enough so you are very close to the other tables and hear every word of their conversation. BUT, the food is good!
Excellent happy hour menu, as well as the regular menu. We were able to sit inside, and it felt safe and comfortable. Opens up to the patio seating
The food was delicious and the drinks STRONG ❤. However the menu was shortened due to covid and seating a bit tight. But overall a good experience under the current circumstances. I'll definitely be back.
Was not aware that making an outdoor reservation did not mean we'd get an outdoor reservation. That wasn't written anywhere when I made the reservation. We had to sit indoors, even though I asked for an outdoor table and several parties that came in right after us got outdoor tables.
Great restaurant. Filet was cooked excellently. Would recommend.
Last minutes reservation, brunch food was very good! Flavorful and well made! The mimosas were very champagney, weird complaint right! The restaurant was cold and we dined indoors, we had to keep our coats on.
This was my second visit to The Butcher Bar, but first time for brunch. My boyfriend and I split the Butcher Mimosa, which supplied two small drinks each to us. My brother and friend had the Spicy Butcher Bacon Bloody. I ordered the Breakfast Toast and a side of roasted potatoes; boyfriend had the BLT; brother had the poached eggs; and friend ordered the special which was make-your-own salmon, lox, and cream cheese bagels.
I also had the Blackberry Brunch Potion and do not recommend. It wasn't mixed (which I thought was intentional since it did not come with a straw or stirrer), but really did not taste good un-mixed. And even when I did mix it up, it still tasted too syrupy. Adding some water helped a little but I still did not enjoy it.
I love how the back patio is set up. At first we were very comfortable and warm, and then the heaters actually became too hot (which was easily fixed when a server turned it down for us). But overall, the service was great, we felt COVID-safe, and enjoyed our experience.
Great food!
The food was amazing and there were so many options for drinks!
Food was great, John our server was on top of everything, and we were social distanced from other patrons as hoped. Great experience!
The quality of the food has gone down here! This used to be one of my go to spots but the food and service were lacking on this visit. I want to be a continued customer because I love the cornbread and the duck wings and the good cuts of beef but it was not up to my standards on this last visit
Pros: The food is fantastic! We got steak, wild boar ribs, Mac and cheese, pretzel and the balsamic Brussels sprouts & cauliflower and everything was great. It came very quickly as well! Food runner was awesome and social.
Cons: Our server wasn’t the best. Asked what vegetables came with the steak- she told us green beans and carrots but we got zucchini and asparagus. Not a big deal because I’m not picky but you should know your menu. She didn’t come check on us for a long time and when she did she left empty dishes and drinks on our overcrowded table (we wanted to try it all).
Such a great place! Amazing food
It was great for my first Valentine's Day to be by the fireplace steak was cooked to perfection although my boyfriend is Muslim and didn't realize the rigatoni had pork sausage in it we got past it and those duck wings are amazing that should be on the menu as a meal with two sides I love the lobster mac and cheese although my boyfriend was a little tipsy and dropped off first order of it on the floor but the service was great and they replaced it right away everything was hot and came in a timely fashion our drinks were amazing had my boyfriend outside sliding on the ice while we waited for our ride back to our hotel I definitely will be back
We were absolutely freezing and we were sitting inside!! The service was great! Our server was very nice and pleasant. The food looked pretty and the filet was done exactly how we wanted it, medium rare. The gnocchi were good, I had something in the mix that wasn't listed on the menu for the gnocchi, and I feel like everything on the plate needs to be listed. Oh and we ordered the sloppy joe poutine which was really good!
The only thing I was a bit grossed out by were the slaughter house hook system around the room we sat in. It just made me think of the murdered meat that was once hanging from them. And no I am not a vegetarian.
Prices were a bit high.
We started the evening with cocktails: a peach Blossom, the butchers daughter and cigars and leather. Bartender did a wonderful job for this first round.
Next we ordered the confit wings along with the roasted cauliflower and brussels sprouts which were fantastically crunchy and had tasty and distinct glazes. Although we brought a 2015 Foxen Syrah, ended up ordering a bottle of their 2018 Malbec because they had a $15 per person corkage fee (rather steep when the standard ranges from $10 to $20 per bottle) and they had a very limited wine selection...
For the main course, we shared a 16 ounce dry aged ribeye which was served with vegetables and as a side we ordered the roasted portobello mushrooms with garlic. The Portabella mushrooms are a great choice for the steak but the steak lacked the dry aged flavor which makes it so tasty.
Lastly, our waiter recommended light and fluffy strawberry dessert that was specially made for Valentines day and Indeed it was very tasty. Our waiter, Mike, was fantastic.
The most disappointing part of the evening was that we ended up ordering around of the cigar and leather cocktails to cap the evening for the three of us but I think the bartender ran out of the smoky/ peaty Scotch which is what makes a drink.
I think this restaurant has a good potential but they do have to work on the consistency in every course..
Excellent food, outstanding and attentive service, and great ambiance! I highly recommend the Brussels sprouts.
Great meal! We got the Royale with Cheese, Korean Short Ribs, and Jalapeño Cornbread. Everything was great and the drinks were good too
Great place to go if you’re looking for a quick bite. Friendly staff and clean establishment.
Great food and service. Even better cocktails.
I enjoyed my recent meal at the Butcher Bar. Food was great and I appreciated the value offered during their happy hour. Also experienced friendly and professional service.
I think this restaurant provides one of the best outdoor dining set ups in Center City Philly. Even on the cold windy evening we dined there, we were quite comfortable in their back terrace, which is quite sheltered.
My only complaint is the mandatory $4.95 service fee for credit card payments. This is outrageous. If I had known in advance, I would have brought sufficient cash, but wasn't up to leaving the restaurant to find an ATM at that point.
I guess if I return, I will either remember to bring cash or I will simply reduce the amount I spend on food and drink to compensate for this ridiculous fee! The only other option is to leave a smaller tip, but I'd hate to penalize the server for the poor business decision of their employer!
Highly recommend
Great food, we all had the 12oz, mushrooms paired very well with the meal. Our server, Arnold, was an absolute joy, courteous and accommodating, as was everyone else we interacted with. For a midrange steakhouse, it excelled my expectations. Both of the desserts they offered were also quite pleasant if simple, and capped off the meal very well.
Food was pretty tasty but Had to wait 30 min outside to be seated. My reservation was for indoor dining and I was seated outside and the food and drinks took forever to come. They charge a 3% fee for credit card usage that was not specified anywhere ahead of time.
Great food and service. Too long of a wait. Bench seating was uncomfortable.
Absolutely amazing. service was great the food was amazing had the French toast sticks out of this world a 10 out of 10 recommend getting the French toast sticks for brunch. I’ve had other things for brunch and they are amazing. the dinner is so good one of my favorite places to go and eat. The food is always top notch the atmosphere is great and the outside seating is really nice as well.
Appropriately spaced Covid-19 seating. Sat outside in the tent. It was comfortable. Myself and friend both got the crab benedict. Delicious!!!!
My waitress forgot the bloody mary but she did comp it when I reminded her. Too much seasoning in the bloody mary-would not recommend
Food was delicious!
Dinner for two with a friend and everything we ate was so good!
Good drinks too
Drink service a little slow
highly rec the wedge salad - huge and can be split
The food was delicious and came out of the kitchen quickly. The outdoor seating area was so cute and cozy, and our server was an absolute pro. The beer selection was also great. Highly recommend.
Awesome brunch and the staff was all so friendly!
I visited this restaurant in October and ordered the seafood trough, which was outstanding. Because of this, I decided to return to get the trough again this past weekend, however, the seafood one was not offered. On the menu was a mini trough, which my companion and I intended to order.
The toughs are offered based on availability. I called the restaurant three days prior to my reservation to ensure that we could order it. It was explained that it may be available, but I had to ask when I got there. Fine. There were other items on the menu that we were interested in ordering if the mini trough was unavailable.
On the night of the reservation, we arrived on time and were seated immediately. We were taken to the rear patio, which was enclosed and heated. The heaters were in the ceiling above the table and were stifling hot! We could barely breathe. They turned the heat off, which made it much more comfortable.
When it was time to order, we asked the server about the trough, as advised. Unavailable. We tried to order the items that we were interested in trying. At least 4 out of the 7 things we were willing to try, they ran out of! We settled for the burger, garlic bread, chicken sandwich, and bacon slab. The bacon was delicious. The burger was good, but cold. The fries were tasty, but cold. The garlic bread was mediocre but also dry, and one piece was way over toasted. The chicken sandwich was absolutely horrible- it lacked flavor- was supposed to a sriracha slaw, which was almost undetectable- no spice! The chicken was not crispy and was under seasoned, and the paprika aioli was underwhelming.
We told the server that the food was not what we expected and that we initially came for the trough. He told us that if we called ahead, we would have been able to get it. We called THREE DAYS AHEAD! Needless to say, we were disappointed. We traveled all the way from Maryland for this. Well, we won't be back.... Nice server, though.
Way overpriced for the quality.
steak was great. Mac n cheese was great. Would definitely go back.
Very great food with great workers! My friend and I enjoyed ourselves; we’re definitely coming back!
The food and service were great, however they are not a COVID safe environment. Their outdoor seating is one giant tent in the back, and they did not take temperatures. We sat next to a group of around 8 people who were yelling the entire time. We almost left due to feeling very unsafe.
The food was great! Softest and richest gnocchi I've ever had. The drinks will get you on a nice buzz
The food was good, and the drinks were excellent. I would recommend for a casual, comfortable night out.
Felt good to actually be out to have dinner. Ordered from the prix fixe menu and the lobster bisque and strip steak were both great. Salute to the waitstaff who were excellent as well.
