Homemade gnocchi with spinach in a creamy truffle sauce
Ñoquis con Estofado / Gnocchi with Braised Short Rib
Bone-in braised short ribs over creamy, homemade spinach and truffle gnocchi, topped with a shiitake mushroom sauce
Our take on an Argentine classic with braised short rib, crispy bacon, fried egg, caramelized onions, tomato confit, roma crunch lettuce, and chimi mayo on homemade ciabatta bread
We came into town to celebrate my wife’s birthday. We were disappointed in this place that we picked to celebrate. The service was very slow, and it took almost an hour to receive our food. Two items we really wanted to try on the menu were not available. The sandwich we received (short ribs) was so fatty, it was not consumable and the flavor was awful. They did make it right by putting in another sandwich order for us. I wish we could have enjoyed this meal as much as I had hoped, but it was a disappointment.
We had tickets to the Garfield theater, right across the street, to see Sundance shorts, so we had dinner at Butcher and Barrel. What a nice experience. It happened to be “Burger Week” so we partook. That burger was the best $6 I ever spent! Our server, Shelby, was perfect. The Old Fashioned I had and the wine my wife had were very good. Overall it was a really nice experience.
Plus they give a 15% food discount if you are attending a Garfield theater event.
Where to begin... came in for burger week, first, the burger looks nothing like the one advertised and had zero flavor. No toppings, tiny patty but if oversized ciabatta bread is your jam, you are in luck! We ordered empanadas as an appetizer, pretty sure they came directly from Taco Bell, the ground beef tasted identical but was not $0.99. Also ordered a spinach salad, with added chicken. Chicken was fatty, definitely not a $22 salad. Spent about $100 and left hungry and disappointed.
The food was excellent! I knocked off one star for overall experience because it was our first time being there and we were left in the dark as to how the menu works or any suggestions. The server could have been inexperienced to go over those things, although she did serve us in a timely and friendly manner! Would definitely like to go back and try other options and hopefully have a more detailed experience!
“Charcuterie board for two”was downright skimpy and way, way overpriced. We inquired but were never informed as to what the three tiny slices of cheese were, nor the little pieces of meat. The steaks were perfectly cooked, but too salty to eat, even with the chimichurri sauce we were eventually able to obtain. The grilled salads (ranch and Caesar) were not tasty—just watery dressing and not much of it at that. We didn’t even bother with dessert as it was a “three strikes and out” kinda experience. So very disappointed, as we are not picky eaters and came there quite hungry but left very unsatisfied. Service was haphazard but server was making an effort, we could see, and she offered an apology as they were clearly understaffed.
Argentine Steak close to hotel was the draw…they had a nice menu but disappointed on the short-ribs. The service was good, and attentive, but not great. I would go back but not immediately.
Nice looking place. We did the Steak Dinner for 2 Porterhouse. Server Destiny was fine. We were seated at 8pm left at 10. Porterhouse ordered medium well, chewy, it was more like beef jerky than a quality steak. Brussels sprouts not cooked through. Mac n cheese. I enjoyed wife not so much. Timing was off. Between appetizer and salad like ten minutes. Salad to meal 20 minutes. Manager was kind comped Brussels and gave us a free dessert. Overall left paying $91.00. That was $10 tip included. I had water and wife a soda. I wanted the Argentinian experience not sure that’s what happened. Manager and staff fine. Food ok sorta. Nothing that says that’s amazing will return. And my lettuce in my salad was like hot??? Odd for me.
The service was incredibly slow. Empanadas and salad were great! Pasta was overpriced for a tiny portion. Brussel sprouts were way underdone and we let our server know..she wasn’t receptive to our opinion to say the least.
The guy who greeted us and the girl who walked us to our table were weird. Then they sat us at the closest seat to the restrooms.
I’m not sure what the bolognese was, but it wasn’t good. The Bruschetta was incredible. As we’re the cannolis.
All in all a very mediocre experience.
The food was absolutely excellent however we ordered the tomahawk ribeye for 2 and it was VERY overcooked. we had ordered it medium rare and it was definitely WELL DONE. The manager did comp our appetizer. Food was great however I feel like the portions were very small for the amount of money you pay.
We had a wonderful evening for a group of five (originally planned for six of us) on a recent Saturday night. While the main room was hopping and louder, we were directed to our table in the back room where only one other table was seated. The AC made the room colder than preferred, but we got to sit in comfortable lounge chairs around our table.
Our server Ethan, a young, engaging sort who knew the menu backwards and forward, seriously made the evening as perfect as it could be. Our group, old friends reconnecting after COVID, was going to have fun regardless, but having an excellent waiter made the evening seamless.
Appetizers: we tried every version of the empanadas, all were awesome. We also had the cheese appetizer that was very good. We used a side, Brussels Sprouts, as an appetizer, they were great as well.
Steaks were the entree’s, all found the steaks and associated spices, excellent.
With excellent food options, combined with superior service, The Butcher and Barrel is a “must try” Cincinnati restaurant.
Nice atmosphere and welcoming service, but the food was disappointing: everything was extremely oversalted, and Brussel sprouts were burned.
The only exception were the turnovers: those were really good.
We celebrated our anniversary with a wonderful dinner.
Food is always great here! One of our favorite date night places.
The food was amazing! Ambient music would have been nice.
We tried the grilled salads - I've never had those. Excellent! And, great service!
If you are a red meat eater, this is your place. Loved the strawberry mule!
By far one of my favorite restaurants ever! The food was delicious! Our server destiny was fantastic! Made my girlfriend birthday dinner the best ever! Definitely recommend and we will definitely be coming back!
At first sight, the restaurant didn’t appear that it was going to be great. Not busy, music was a weird dance mix and it was clear they were having problems finding good staff(like every restaurant seems to be). And although it was our waitress first day ever serving, she was sweet and did an awesome job. Bar tenders were great and personally delivered cocktails to our table to help her out. The food was a pleasant surprise to say the least! Best all around meal we’ve had in a really long time from appetizers through dessert! The flavors were incredible! Seemed a bit pricey for the overall experience yet the food was AMAZING!!
Service needs to be a bit more attentive. Food was meh. A bit pricey for what you get.
The staff was rude. The whole place had maybe 8 customers in it and the 15 staff members standing at the front door acted like it was an inconvenience to them to seat us and they were not at all happy we had a reservation. The server was okay but she also did not seem to be happy to have to take our order. We had never been here and asked what her suggestions were and she told us to read the menu.
The drink menu was small but the one drink we did order was good. The grilled salad was not grilled at all and there was no dressing on it.
Needless to say we choose to leave and go elsewhere I finish dinner.

Food and service were wonderful. Not sure what happened in the kitchen. Food took a very long time. Over two hours to get a ateak.
Went to celebrate a birthday with a party of eight. Beautiful place and great service from the hard working servers. The food was delicious but I would not consider it authentic Argentine food, especially the parrillada served on a plate. We were wow’d by the chef whipping up a Delicious dairy free dessert for the birthday girl. She came out to greet us at the end of our dinner.
Great food- wonderful service. Had the Gnocchi and Fettuccini
Nice ambient and good food
Service was great and food was even better!
I love the Meat so juicy and tender and empanadas were delicious
Food was AMAZING! Our server was great and the appetizers were also delicious. The braised short rib gnocchi was out of this world.
We had a 5:30 dinner rez on a Friday (RedsEveningGame)...however we were going to a 7pm Cincinnati World Cinema event. Since it was our first time there we lost track of time and regretfully had to rush the wait staff to help us leave quickly.
They were very kind, patient and accommodating.
We had an early reservation, perhaps the first one even, on a Sunday afternoon at 4:30. The website said they open at 4 but when we arrived at about 20 after, the doors were locked. Since we had never been there before, I wasn't sure if we were at the right entrance. After trying two other doors and even calling (no answer) the bartender/hostess came and unlocked the door and let us in. She stated they usually keep the doors locked until time for the first reservation (whenever that might be?). After that everything was fine, although service was a bit slow but the food was fantastic!
The food was delicious and our server was super friendly. I would definitely recommend to a friend and have plans to come back.
Our food was excellent along with the service from Shelby… Excellent waitress and very knowledgeable of your menu and your Bourbons
Their customer service was above and beyond! We had a great time.
Good place downtown. A little overpriced for the total experience, but food was good, and the location convenient.
Service was slow, price was way too high for quality and amount of food. Bar atmosphere and service at high end price. Won’t be going back.
Had Mother’s Day dinner there for two the food was amazing service was Amazing. I definitely will be back
There were 6 of us for Mother's Day and it was fun delicious. The service was wonderful.
It's really a nice place. Not the first time we ate there either.
Incomplete menu for occasion . Food was not representative of Argentine cuisine and not fresh. Over priced.
We had a morning reservation on Mother's Day. Given the time of day, they weren't very busy. After waiting an hour and 10 minutes for our food (after ordering), we asked what was going on. Manager checked on our order, came back and said they were "working on it". It still took another 15 minutes or so. And even then they didn't bring out all of the food together (just for 3 people in our family). My husband's food was cold. My MIL ordered the 1/2 order of French toast, and it was a very small pie shaped piece that was all of 3 bites!! We were floored that they could call that a serving!! And throughout the entire experience our server hardly ever came by! We waited long stretches with no refills! Two of us had the burger & fries, and it was very good! And the decor is cool. But other than that it was an awful experience. Not a great start to Mother's Day.
