Our take on an Argentine classic with braised short rib, crispy bacon, fried egg, caramelized onions, tomato confit, roma crunch lettuce, and chimi mayo on homemade ciabatta bread
The food was very good. Service was a bit slow. We sat at our table for about 10mins before we were greeted by our server. Then it was another 15 min before we got our drinks. The staff were very nice, I am hoping that the problem with service is do to Restaurant week and that they may be understaffed like many other places. We will go back, the food was delicious and of excellent quality. I just hope that the service will be better.
Most importantly the food was excellent! I felt like our server had never been out to dinner herself. Constantly had to ask for things that should have been automatically served…. Water, small plates for our apps, salt and pepper, refills. I was never asked if I wanted another glass of wine or my husband another beer. We asked for some bread with our pasta and never received it, but was charged for it on our bill.
Great service - terrific food - and best of all - it was marvelously, wonderfully quiet! The lack of loud music is enough for me to want to return but coupled with delicious food and attentive service will make me a regular there. What a nice experience - my friend and I could actually have a grand conversation. Thank you for that.
Should have stayed with the prix fixe. Steaks are way overpriced and way undersized. The service was friendly and outstanding. I would go back in a heartbeat but I will avoid the steaks at all cost. Wonderful restaurant.
Steak was amazing!
Was in Cincinnati for my sons Taekwondo tournament. Decided on steaks for the evening and it didn’t disappoint. Would definitely recommend
Very cool place for a relaxing dinner! I will visit again.
Restaurant was a little more than half empty, but they were clearly understaffed considering (1) they initially had to check if they were accepting walk-ins, which was an odd question because I booked my reservation when I was walking in and they had plenty of availability online, and (2) it took 15 min for someone to greet us at the table and 30min to get drinks. Seems like they’re struggling with keeping staff which I’ve seen at a lot of places, but this was definitely the most evident case of it I’ve seen where it really affected the service. Hard to be upset with any of the employees working, they were moving nonstop just were enough of them to keep up
Limited menu was disappointing, but the food was good. Service was excellent. Bourbon selection was limited.
Appetizers were good. Entrees and dessert were not. Place was empty and service was friendly but slow.
Our waitress was great
Wow! Incredible meal and service. Very cool place. FirstTime there. We will be back!
We had a wonderful waitress. Obviously completely cares about her customers and their satisfaction. Plus she was attentive and hands on. The manager supported her. Nice to see based on how hard hit restaurants have been. We gave then full marks for great food and a great evening. Thanks guys! Order the Argentine experience!
We have been to this restaurant before it was good, so we decided to take my sons back. They were visiting Cincinnati for the first time in over a year since Covid. Our waiter was really good. However, everything else was a complete mess. Our empanada appetizer took nearly an hour to get to us and then an hour later we still haven’t gotten dinner and then we decided to take the check and take it home with us and on the check we’re two pieces of strawberry cake that we didn’t order nor get. Once we got the food home, it was okay, but the fries were soggy and the chicken with tomato sauce was blah; would’ve been better fresh in the restaurant. .
We will not return.
Listless receptionist with 40 minute wait for entrees after ordering. Only 4 other tables being waited on.
Have been to
So long time to have our food on the table and then it comes cold, but short ribs, roasted veg and rosted chorizo are supposed to be served hot or at least warm. They changed everithing but it isn't pleasant. Small overpriced portions. Not original Argentina 's kitchens. Try this place only for overpriced empanadas.
Everything was just delicious. The cocktails were lovely (we tried the Cincinnati shrub and the martini). Definitely plan to go back. Our server was Nikki and she was amazing. She was checking in at just the right times, but also never felt intrusive.
If you’re looking for one the best steaks you’ve ever had then this is the place to go! The service and staff were great and very accommodating.
We came with a group of 6. My fiancé and I were the only ones to get steak, everyone else got pasta. I got the filet medium well, which was tender enough, just wasn't anything "special" as far as taste goes, which I expected for the cost. My fiancé ordered the strip, also medium well, and when it came, was medium rare at best. He sent it back and it came out more done, but not much, definitely not medium well. He did not send it back a second time, as to not make a scene, but only ate part of it and brought the rest home. For the cost, especially since we were celebrating a special occasion and I covered the cost of everyone's meals, we hoped for better food. I am marking that we would recommend the restaurant to others, but it would only be with an honest warning of how our meals were.
Mya was our waitress and did an excellent job taking care of us throughout our first dining experience at Butcher and Barrel. The meals were amazing from start to finish! We will definitely be back!
Great food!!! Filet tastes as good as Ruby's. Server was awesome! Definitely will go there again.
very accommodating to our order.
food is wonderful
We came into town to celebrate my wife’s birthday. We were disappointed in this place that we picked to celebrate. The service was very slow, and it took almost an hour to receive our food. Two items we really wanted to try on the menu were not available. The sandwich we received (short ribs) was so fatty, it was not consumable and the flavor was awful. They did make it right by putting in another sandwich order for us. I wish we could have enjoyed this meal as much as I had hoped, but it was a disappointment.
We had tickets to the Garfield theater, right across the street, to see Sundance shorts, so we had dinner at Butcher and Barrel. What a nice experience. It happened to be “Burger Week” so we partook. That burger was the best $6 I ever spent! Our server, Shelby, was perfect. The Old Fashioned I had and the wine my wife had were very good. Overall it was a really nice experience.
Plus they give a 15% food discount if you are attending a Garfield theater event.
Where to begin... came in for burger week, first, the burger looks nothing like the one advertised and had zero flavor. No toppings, tiny patty but if oversized ciabatta bread is your jam, you are in luck! We ordered empanadas as an appetizer, pretty sure they came directly from Taco Bell, the ground beef tasted identical but was not $0.99. Also ordered a spinach salad, with added chicken. Chicken was fatty, definitely not a $22 salad. Spent about $100 and left hungry and disappointed.
The food was excellent! I knocked off one star for overall experience because it was our first time being there and we were left in the dark as to how the menu works or any suggestions. The server could have been inexperienced to go over those things, although she did serve us in a timely and friendly manner! Would definitely like to go back and try other options and hopefully have a more detailed experience!
“Charcuterie board for two”was downright skimpy and way, way overpriced. We inquired but were never informed as to what the three tiny slices of cheese were, nor the little pieces of meat. The steaks were perfectly cooked, but too salty to eat, even with the chimichurri sauce we were eventually able to obtain. The grilled salads (ranch and Caesar) were not tasty—just watery dressing and not much of it at that. We didn’t even bother with dessert as it was a “three strikes and out” kinda experience. So very disappointed, as we are not picky eaters and came there quite hungry but left very unsatisfied. Service was haphazard but server was making an effort, we could see, and she offered an apology as they were clearly understaffed.
Argentine Steak close to hotel was the draw…they had a nice menu but disappointed on the short-ribs. The service was good, and attentive, but not great. I would go back but not immediately.
Nice looking place. We did the Steak Dinner for 2 Porterhouse. Server Destiny was fine. We were seated at 8pm left at 10. Porterhouse ordered medium well, chewy, it was more like beef jerky than a quality steak. Brussels sprouts not cooked through. Mac n cheese. I enjoyed wife not so much. Timing was off. Between appetizer and salad like ten minutes. Salad to meal 20 minutes. Manager was kind comped Brussels and gave us a free dessert. Overall left paying $91.00. That was $10 tip included. I had water and wife a soda. I wanted the Argentinian experience not sure that’s what happened. Manager and staff fine. Food ok sorta. Nothing that says that’s amazing will return. And my lettuce in my salad was like hot??? Odd for me.
The service was incredibly slow. Empanadas and salad were great! Pasta was overpriced for a tiny portion. Brussel sprouts were way underdone and we let our server know..she wasn’t receptive to our opinion to say the least.
The guy who greeted us and the girl who walked us to our table were weird. Then they sat us at the closest seat to the restrooms.
I’m not sure what the bolognese was, but it wasn’t good. The Bruschetta was incredible. As we’re the cannolis.
All in all a very mediocre experience.
The food was absolutely excellent however we ordered the tomahawk ribeye for 2 and it was VERY overcooked. we had ordered it medium rare and it was definitely WELL DONE. The manager did comp our appetizer. Food was great however I feel like the portions were very small for the amount of money you pay.
We had a wonderful evening for a group of five (originally planned for six of us) on a recent Saturday night. While the main room was hopping and louder, we were directed to our table in the back room where only one other table was seated. The AC made the room colder than preferred, but we got to sit in comfortable lounge chairs around our table.
Our server Ethan, a young, engaging sort who knew the menu backwards and forward, seriously made the evening as perfect as it could be. Our group, old friends reconnecting after COVID, was going to have fun regardless, but having an excellent waiter made the evening seamless.
Appetizers: we tried every version of the empanadas, all were awesome. We also had the cheese appetizer that was very good. We used a side, Brussels Sprouts, as an appetizer, they were great as well.
Steaks were the entree’s, all found the steaks and associated spices, excellent.
With excellent food options, combined with superior service, The Butcher and Barrel is a “must try” Cincinnati restaurant.
Nice atmosphere and welcoming service, but the food was disappointing: everything was extremely oversalted, and Brussel sprouts were burned.
The only exception were the turnovers: those were really good.
We celebrated our anniversary with a wonderful dinner.
Food is always great here! One of our favorite date night places.
The food was amazing! Ambient music would have been nice.
