The Burg & Barrel Ratings and Reviews
I have sent 3 request to regarding failed attempts to Open Table and you have not emailed or contacted me.
I love Burg & Barrel I am not happy with Open Table support.
Please don't tell me to check my spam folder I have and I have no response.
The food and drinks were awesome - service, not so much. I went to the bar to get drinks more than our waitress came to check on us.
Also, this should be taken off of Open Table - they don't participate or take reservations. When we got there the hostess was confused and said "oh, I don't think we participate in open table" I showed her my reservation and she said "I'm sorry, we are on a 25 minute wait"
Fortunately, I was in a good mood that night but that could be very frustrating if I was on a time schedule
We scheduled on open table but they had connectivity issues and never got my reservation. It was during some game, so we got sat in the meeting room. It was like 55-60 degrees in there. Everyone was wearing their coat through dinner. The food was good, it just got cold really fast. The waiters were working their buts off but service was slow. They need to bring in more servers on game nights.
Burgers and fries were exceptional. We also tried the onion rings, if you like light batter, which I do, these were really good. The only downside was they didn't carry the domestic beer I like. Oh well, I was able to try the tap beers with a sample serving.
This was one of the best Burgers I have ever had in Kansas City. I had out of town company and they were hungry for good burger and they were more than pleased,
Only issue was when I gave them my name for open table reservation they had no idea what I was talking about and they did not know how I would obtain my points.
Please assist with this matter.
Got together for holiday gathering with friends - was a good fit for our group of 30-somethings plus two toddlers. Plenty of noise for the kids to be themselves, but not too much noise that we couldn't hear each other across the table. The "Ray Charles" beer selection option is pretty funny, and my husband enjoyed playing "beer roulette" this way. Our friends were happy with their burgers; sweet potato fries were good, and the chicken nachos were delicious!
So to start out, the food is excellent here and the beer list is quite solid as well. That's enough to keep us coming here even through often spotty service - not inattentive, but perpetually understaffed - and fairly common errors in the kitchen's first crack at our order. Last night, in a particularly fine example, our vegetarian friend found that they had managed to put bacon on her black bean burger.
However, if you're on OpenTable because you want to be able to make a reservation and walk into a restaurant at the time you selected, you should give this a pass. They don't really "get" how this system works. Last night they tried to tell us that literally all of their reservations had come in for 6pm and so they couldn't possibly seat us because they hadn't actually reserved us any space. On NYE, we didn't have a better option, so we waited about 30-40 minutes and got our table eventually. Many other folks were given the same story. In looking at other reviews on here, I suppose we should have known better. Don't make the mistake we did. Come out here when there's not a rush, but don't imagine that a reservation is helping you avoid any kind of wait.
Although we had a reservation for 5, the restaurant staff appeared to have no knowledge of our reservation. Because it was the only available space, we were seated at the "rail" in front of the bar so we had 3 seats facing the bar and 1 at each end. (The rail appears to be designed for people to stand there and drink, since there were originally no chairs + the rail itself way too skinny to be called a table. They brought chairs so 3 of us would face the bar with one person sitting at each end of the rail.) This was the first time my 2 children and their significant others had met. I sat in the middle and could talk with either couple on either side of me, but due to the seating arrangement, there was no way for either couple to interact. I spent my time talking to one couple and ignoring the other, then switching to the other couple and ignoring the first couple. I had planned for all five of us to be able to talk together as a group, but due to the seating that was impossible and I was extremely frustrated that we did not get to share a communal experience -- especially since we had a reservation and one of the couples is unlikely to return from Massachusetts for another 3 years. We ordered appetizers, I ordered a salad, and everyone ordered burgers. My salad arrived first + I reminded the server that we had appetizers. The bartender/waiter came over + said that the appetizers were delayed but the burgers were almost ready. To avoid having the burgers sit and get cold, I told the bartender to bring the food when it was ready. Appetizers arrived after I finished my salad. A minute later, the burgers arrived. Due to the small "table", it was hard to fit all that food on the table. The food was adequate at best. The beer selection is good + the beers are served at an appropriate temperature. The burgers always sound good on the menu, but the actual food is disappointing.
The only reason I cannot give 5 stars for service is because it took longer than expected to be seated and we had a reservation. I could understand the wait had I not took the time to book a table for eight. Maybe there is a learning curve with making reservations via Open Table and the restaurant that needs to be addressed? Fantastic food. Highly recommend the pretzels and mushrooms on the appetizer list. My burger was prepared perfectly. I will be going back and I would not be afraid to being my kids.
We made reservations to eat here hours before we showed up. My husband and two kids and I drove about 30 miles to eat here. We were expecting something like most of the bar/eateries we've been to where there is a separate area for dining. This place is run like a college bar. We (with two young children) were placed at a very small table in the middle of the room right next to the bar. Despite having made reservations, we felt like we were packed in between tables of people drinking. In fact, we were so close to the bar that a waitress ran into my son and me with a plate of food, twice. The waitstaff, hostess and guests there were rude to us. I guess if you're one to go out drinking with your friends and kids in a very bar-like atmosphere on a Saturday night then this place is for you, but we are of the opinion they should make this 18+ after a certain time or segregate the bar from the dining area. We left before ordering and won't be back.
Ordered the steak salad. Steak was so tough I couldn't chew it. Others at the table ordered burgers and said they were great. One ordered the P B &E and loved it! We also had the fried mushrooms. Tons of breading. While it was seasoned, there was too much to taste the mushrooms.
Typically this place is an A+, but today missed the mark just a little. I always order the same things and this time it wasn't made very well. The wrap was stuffed with mostly lettuce. Several bites only had lettuce and nothing else. The other person with me ordered a wrap as well and it was much larger this time than other times. The food just wasn't consistent. The server was also a little spacey. We had to ask for things several times. The server we enjoy was there and we should have requested her because she's awesome.
We were in Kansas City for business and went to B & B because of the Open Table reviews. We almost didn't go in because from the outside it did not look that special. Also, there is a very noisy bar next door (it may be part of B & B) and we did not think this was our kind of place. But we tried it and I am very glad we did. We were very surprised at the great, innovative menu and really wonderful food. Kevin our waiter gave great suggestions. DONOT miss the heated pretzels with a dipping sauce from Heavan! I can imagine at times that this place can get very noisy but we were there early on a Saturday night and had a great time. My suggestion is that Burg & Barrel should be on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives!
We carried out here about a month ago and were impressed enough to actually dine in this time. We were not disappointed. Great beer selection and above average pub fare. Our server was friendly and attentive and we were impressed that despite being a fairly big beer bar there were a lot of folks with young kids that filtered in during our time there. Almost forgot to mention we brought our 3-week old sleeping baby girl with us and not only did she nap throughout, nobody on the staff or in the restaurant blinked an eye that she was there. We will definitely be making a return trip.
This place is a solid, non-pretentious, old-school neighborhood-style bar & burger joint, and good ones like this are getting harder and harder to find! They have a serious 12 tap of really good craft beer choices (and another 100+ craft beer selections in the cooler!) Lots of tv's, something on the menu for everyone, everything on the menu is "in-house-made" fresh and real! The hand cut, honest-to-goodness REAL potato french fries are truly worthy of every carb ingested. We will absolutely be back!
This was my first time at The Burg & Barrel and I really liked it. I know the burgers are a big deal but I opted for a wrap (the crispy chicken ... or whatever the buffalo chicken one was) and it was tasty. I also got the pretzels with cheese for an app. They were good but a little soggy, I think I would have liked a firmer sample of the pretzels but it still tasted great with the cheese. Our server was fantastic and totally kept on us! The happy hour drink specials were great and I felt the whole experience was good and reasonable. I'd definitely go back!
they need to come up with better seasonings for the ground beef before they begin the cooking process. They are very creative with the toppings and names they have for the burgers, but the meat itself is bland. Our service was great, the beer was very cold and it is a fun place to visit.
My wife and I both enjoyed our burgers. Pretty similar to BRGR in that respect. Great beer list. Service was pretty slow and not great. Could have been that it was gettig busier due to March Madness but it wasn't overly crowded in my opinion. Overall a good place to get a gourmet/fun burger.
