Wonderful place to go for special dinner. Arrive early enough to stop for a drink at bar across the street and to step into Hat Shop
And Theatre of Dreams. Wendy Addison has been creating whimsical vintage creations for over 20 years now.
Always a great time!
Although is not hidden in Port Costa since it is in Main street, Port Costa itself is a hidden town. It is worth the drive and You will be pleased once you get there. Even more pleased once you have finished your meal. Bon Appetit!
Arrived an hour early and enjoyed a glass of Grenache at the bar. Good wine list. Our server decanted the bottle of Cabernet we brought while we waited for our reservation. The corking fee was $25. However, if you buy a bottle, they will waive your corking fee if you have brought a bottle. Good option for a group. Food was excellent. Service was very attentive and courteous despite being very busy the weekend before Xmas. The Christmas decorations and historic charm of the restaurant made for a very pleasant experience. Parking cam be hard to find. Be courteous not to block residents driveways. Enjoy!
Fantastic restaurant, great food, perfect date spot. Get a few cocktails for sure!
My second visit this year. Best new restaurant for 2017. Must visit for those loving well prepared authentic American classics with a twist.
Hand crafted cocktails are amazing.
Every time we go to Bullvalley for dinner we are thoroughly pleased. Great service, drinks, dinner and dessert.
Wow. What a great experience. The food and drinks were fantastic and the service was SUPERB. The menu is definitely comfort food, but some of the best you’ll ever have. Even the creamed kale was memorable. It’s kind of on the pricey side, but if you go with a group most of the plates are good for sharing. You have to make it through a windy road to get there, but once you have your first cocktail you’ll realize it was worth the trip.
Absolutely stellar experience as usual. Service was so fluid and on point that our dinner time just flew by in comfort. Incredible dishes, excellent craft cocktails, lovely service staff. The fish stew was particularly enjoyable, but the elderflower spritzer is always my favorite. Montenegro with elderflower spritzer? WOW!
We made 830 reservations and when we showed up they were almost out of the majority of entrées on the menu. Unfortunate
Great food, generous portions, family style, so don't expect to all eat at once if you order individual dishes. Fairly expensive.
My second time here and Bull Valley continues to impress. Pork stew was out of this world. Brussel sprouts were delicious. Risotto was even more flavorful than both. The bar knows how to make a good cocktail! Bartenders all very generous with their knowledge and warmth. You should see one guy shake a martini! They have great gin: Cap Rock, St. George, Automatic... My husband had an awesome gin and tonic with Automatic Sea gin and later an old fashioned. I took a sip and they were the bomb. I wasn’t drinking so I had a fresh squeezed ginger beer called a Saratoga cooler that was equally as good as the cocktails!
Great food as always , Fried chicken my favorite. No weak link here
I've been for dinner and brunch. Both were delicious, memorable meals. The bar produces some really great drinks too. I just went to brunch Sunday and I already want to return. It's family style (even for brunch) but I didn't want to share the Chilaquiles.
Always great for dinner. This time we had brunch. Amazing cinnamon biscuits and hamhock and kale hash. And Port Costa is always an experience.
This is one of my favorite Bay Area restaurants. It's a hidden gem. The food and cocktail menu is comforting yet innovative, and the staff couldn't be friendlier.
The pork stew is delicious, absolute must try and will come back again. Everything is served family style which makes for a cozy atmosphere, great for a date. We asked for a table fit for a special occasion (anniversary) and they put us in a nice little alcove which allowed us to converse comfortably even though the restaurant at large was pretty loud. We will definitely be back! Especially fun to stay at the Burlington afterwords and make a getaway of it
Worth the drive to this lovely spot in Port Costa. The bell tolls as you enter a different time where the cocktails are specially crafted to your liking and the atmosphere is VERY energetic! Can't say enough about the service and the food. Great wine suggestions, pairings, and just a great place to enjoy a special dinner with a good friend or two.
Love this place but noise level was off the charts for dinner conversation without shouting. A few acoustic tiles will make a huge difference. Other than that, love the test.
Great personality and ambiance in quaint Port Costa. Friendly and professional staff. Food of excellent quality, prepared expertly. We had a great time and will be back!
The muscles were delicious! We were disappointed in the fried chicken it was a bit rubbery and they must have changed the recipe?? The cocktails were delicious but quite $$
This place is unique and cozy. I ordered the wedge salad and it could have been better...I guess I'm so used to the blue cheese in there but here it was a dill dressing instead. Then the fried chicken was very good and crispy! But the Brussel sprouts!! Wow! Delicious!!!
Over all a very good meal.
Worth the drive, cost and you'll likely have a story to share about your visit to this uniquely quiet town.
Wait, stay away, it's mine! (Only tell cool people who get it; no room for snobs)
This is a gorgeous place with sumptuous food and drinks. The town is about an hour from San Francisco, which is 30 minutes closer than The French Laundry. I've been there on a date, a big party and a family occasion and it has been a pleasure each time. The servers are friendly, prompt and knowledgeable.
This was, without a doubt, one of the best brunches I've ever had! We had a group of 9 and the service was fantastic. Our food came out quickly and the choices were amazing. Everything was delicious. Though it's a bit out of the way, I'd highly recommend taking the opportunity to eat at this amazing and unique restaurant.
We celebeated a birthday with friends. It was a perfect evening.
Great food and excellent service. We had the poached black cod and it was perfect. The fried chicken and biscuits were yummy also.
Unfortunately we all got very sick to our stomachs. Please rethink the oil you use to prepare the food. Oil is not something you want to skimp on. I spent 300.00 at your restaurant and we all got very sick.
Friends getting together for a belated birthday dinner.
Made the drive out from Oakland for a special date night here. The ambience and charm from the historic building was perfect for the occasion and the friendly servers only enhanced that experience. Food was amazing, we ordered way too much and went home with several boxes. Generous portions are served here, especially for just two. Desserts were delicious and we went home smiling from ear to ear.
I love this place and have dinned numerous times with freinds and Familiy Birthday celebrations.
I was so excited to bring 4 lady friends for their first Experience.I have raved about it to them and on Sunday it was to be a special Treat!!! It was a Disappointment .First ladies ordered corned beef dish and after quite a while the waiter returned to say they were out.Now a Big Birthday celebration was dining there and That was the excuse given. We could understand and they ordered other dishes. All the food except for the soup was cold and all the food came at different times leaving the group to eat alone while others watched.I told them this has never happened before. All around us people were leaving due to the food was taking too long!! The waiter even asked is your food Ok and shared that lots of people were complaining. He felt bad and I felt bad for him.I have had him before and he is Awesome!! I was so surprised that a adjustment to the Bill was not offered. For a establishment of this caliber Totally unacceptable!!!
A Large Party that was reserved, I'm sure well in advance, is no excuse for running out of dishes or getting late cold food!! I am hoping that the Bull Valley Roadhouse will make good on this BAD experience and Welcome us Back, to make it up!!!

Iwish I got the waiters name HE is Awesome !!I Is was not his fault and I guess he could not adjust the Bill Also You Hostess that Day a delight!!
Day before wedding.
The cocktails were great and the service was awesome!
The only issue my group had was that the main dishes were so salty.
Appetizers were great especially the mussels. Risotto was way too salty, almost inedible.
Generous portions but long wait between appetizers and main course.
This gem is tucked away in Port Costa, off of Hwy 4. I have never been disappointed by the food and the ambiance. American cuisine with an artistic flare for delicious sauces and sous vide -cooked meats and fish. Thursday night is Tiki night at the bar. Delicious drinks in handcrafted bowls and mugs by Shimaceramics.
We shared a family lunch for 7 on Sunday. Everyone agreed that the service, food, drinks, and ambiance were all excellent!
What an interesting and Outstanding place! The service was outstanding, and the food was AMAZING. Definitely telling my friends. Definitely coming back. Still thinking about my fantastic meal and cocktails!
Enjoyed hearty family-style comfort food in a fun atmosphere. Food quality and flavor was a notch above other places. The town and roadhouse are a throw-back in time. Really a fun outing. Want to come back for brunch. Looks like front room would be more atmospheric than the back room where we were seated.
The service was stellar. Only wish there were more vegetarian & maybe 1 or 2 vegan options to acccommodate everyone's diet when coming with a large group. That said, food was very good.
A really great restaurant with a ton of old charm, great service and great food. The mussels were some of the best I've ever had, the cocktails were unique and very tasty, and the service was amazing.
