Absolutely delicious!
We had: Pimm's #4, strawberry and goat cheese salad, fried chicken, and then a brandy alexander for dessert. They really care about what they produce and it shows.

Can't wait for my next visit!

The restaurant has a lot of character; staff are very friendly; cocktails are well made; food is hearty and fresh. The parking lot is ungraded and can take a chunk out of your car underside if you are not careful or the car is low slung.

The old world decor is reminiscent of the old wild west and definitely adds to the visit.

The Bull Valley Roadhouse is a favorite of ours. The family style dishes can't be beat. We brought our sons new in laws from Italy and they were impressed. We highly recommend it!

Overall, The Bull Valley Roadhouse was very good.
My one complaint is that while the food was very good, it's overpriced.
$38. for Halibut. $26. for Risotto.
They charged $4. for bread but then comped it.
Not sure of the logic.

Always have a tasty meal here and despite the relatively short menu, I always find something new and yummy. This time it was the grilled Caesar salad. Deeeelicious. I thought my dad was going to run off with the whole plate. We had to order two.

A trip to the Bull Valley Roadhouse is worth the effort, who knew a place like this existed in the Bay Area? Port Costa is like a stepping back in time (to the 1920's), but it wasn't artificially created for that feel, it organically stayed there (drive <25 mph on the last turnoff to the restaurant). The Roadhouse captures that time with speakeasy references and a pre-prohibition cocktail menu. The food was delicious and served family to style for sharing. Do try the house made sodas, they were fantastic (I didn't have a cocktail but I think the bar is top-notch). The service was attentive and friendly. My only complaint was the dining room was loud and crowded (Friday night), our table for 2 was 1 foot from our neighbors on each side (tables for 4) and we could have easily joined their conversations, while sometimes not hearing mine. I definitely recommend it and will be making another trip back.

Great food - everything we ordered was a winner. Fried chicken was excellent, pork stew with polenta was the group fav. Halibut ceviche was a winner as well. Family style was great so we could taste a lot of dishes. Attentive service, but not intrusive. Had a great experience - we'll definitely go back!

Especially fun to introduce someone new to the adventure of driving to Port Costa, the funky historic hamlet & unique Roadhouse. We ate for the first time in the " Lodge" , an extension added 11 months ago, rustic & casual if not quite as quirky as the original restaurant section. As before, enjoyed every thing we ordered: grilled Cesar salads, mussels, fries, fried chicken with beans & bisquits, served Family style. Most menu selections are familiar, but prepared with a skilled hand. Also enjoyed cocktails, the bar specializes in various prohibition era & vintage concoctions. Quite attentive service. The place has a casual vibe, but is not rowdy & is quite appropriate for special occasions, dates & groups.
Only downside was the lack of AC, not a problem the day of our dinner, as there were plenty of fans running, but I would not want to dine there on a Contra Costa scorcher.

Great food and cocktails. Lots of servers and sometimes orders got lost in the shuffle, or one person took a drink order, another person came over asking if we wanted another cocktail, then someone would arrive and not know who ordered what cocktails, or cocktails were for the table next to us.

Very good family style dining venue. We got the fried chicken, and a mac'n'cheese side, along with their bread of the day and a chocolate pot de creme for dessert. It was excellent.

This place goes back many years with respect to facility. Food is excellent. Wine list is outrageously expensive. Noise level such that it was hard to communicate across a table for four. Too expensive for what you get

The restaurant is located in the quaint town of Port Costa....tucked away down a winding road. While we've never been there when the shops are open, it does have a few shops and a colorful bar to enjoy too. But the key draw is this restaurant which offers a lovely menu encouraging family style sharing of dishes. This was our 2nd visit and the food was even better than I remembered it. Everything was prepared perfectly and we couldn't have asked for a better meal.

The bar was perfect, drinks were fabulous the whole bar experience was just impressive.
Dinner was nice but not great. For the price I expected more. They charged us $50.00 to open our two bottles of wine and they taxed the corkage fee! We went to the manager and told him we had no problem paying $25.00 for the 1st bottle but, charging us for the second was ridiculous considering we spent $317.76 for 4 cocktails, 1 appetizer, 1 salad, 2 entree's, 2 desserts and 1 coffee.

Been here a few times and likely will many more. Everything is always terrific. I will note that having an early (4pm) dinner on memorial day did seem to effect that amazing fried chicken. It wasn't quite as wonderful as previous experiences. Still absolutely serviceable, but lacked the magic touch of previous meals.

It was a hot, busy holiday early into the dinner service, so I'm 99% sure this time was a fluke. Let me be clear: still great dinner, just a tiny bit less amazing this time. Can't wait to come back. Top 5 restaurants in Bay area.

Three of us for brunch on Sunday. Imaginative menu (in keeping with the quirky curated-flea-market entirely delightful decor and appointments). Same thoughtfulness for the bar menu. Everything delicious; generous plates to share. Grilled Caesar, risotto, steak (yes; they serve it so easy to share). And those biscuits!

For 3 of us the bill came to $190. including tax and tip. The room was pretty rustic to be charging that price. The food was good, but the prices are more in line with San Francisco, not Port Costa. If you feel that you must charge that much to be able to run the restaurant, then maybe a little smaller portion to decrease the cost. $19 for a dish that included a soggy waffle? Cocktails, e.g., short Bloody Marys, were $12. I could see if you didn't pay attention you could easily drop $100/person at brunch. BRUNCH! Yikes!
