Made the drive out from Oakland for a special date night here. The ambience and charm from the historic building was perfect for the occasion and the friendly servers only enhanced that experience. Food was amazing, we ordered way too much and went home with several boxes. Generous portions are served here, especially for just two. Desserts were delicious and we went home smiling from ear to ear.

I love this place and have dinned numerous times with freinds and Familiy Birthday celebrations.
I was so excited to bring 4 lady friends for their first Experience.I have raved about it to them and on Sunday it was to be a special Treat!!! It was a Disappointment .First ladies ordered corned beef dish and after quite a while the waiter returned to say they were out.Now a Big Birthday celebration was dining there and That was the excuse given. We could understand and they ordered other dishes. All the food except for the soup was cold and all the food came at different times leaving the group to eat alone while others watched.I told them this has never happened before. All around us people were leaving due to the food was taking too long!! The waiter even asked is your food Ok and shared that lots of people were complaining. He felt bad and I felt bad for him.I have had him before and he is Awesome!! I was so surprised that a adjustment to the Bill was not offered. For a establishment of this caliber Totally unacceptable!!!
A Large Party that was reserved, I'm sure well in advance, is no excuse for running out of dishes or getting late cold food!! I am hoping that the Bull Valley Roadhouse will make good on this BAD experience and Welcome us Back, to make it up!!!

The cocktails were great and the service was awesome!
The only issue my group had was that the main dishes were so salty.

Appetizers were great especially the mussels. Risotto was way too salty, almost inedible.
Generous portions but long wait between appetizers and main course.

This gem is tucked away in Port Costa, off of Hwy 4. I have never been disappointed by the food and the ambiance. American cuisine with an artistic flare for delicious sauces and sous vide -cooked meats and fish. Thursday night is Tiki night at the bar. Delicious drinks in handcrafted bowls and mugs by Shimaceramics.

Enjoyed hearty family-style comfort food in a fun atmosphere. Food quality and flavor was a notch above other places. The town and roadhouse are a throw-back in time. Really a fun outing. Want to come back for brunch. Looks like front room would be more atmospheric than the back room where we were seated.

The service was stellar. Only wish there were more vegetarian & maybe 1 or 2 vegan options to acccommodate everyone's diet when coming with a large group. That said, food was very good.

A really great restaurant with a ton of old charm, great service and great food. The mussels were some of the best I've ever had, the cocktails were unique and very tasty, and the service was amazing.

My husband and I had been to the bar before for some tapas and cocktails. This was our first experience with dining and reservations. The reservations were easy on Open Table and we were promptly seated upon arrival with hot, wet towels for our hands. The cocktails were great and my husband and I shared the family style meal, which as a shared meal was ample. We also shared a small dessert with coffee. One of the owners, Sam, was distressed due to the coffee grinder malfunctioning. He went across the street to grind the coffee for me, rather than just coming to the table to explain it was off the menu. This impressed me, as service that was exceptional. We will be back, of course, and look forward to sharing the novel spot with out-of-town guests. It is apparent that people from great distances come there for the experience and fine dining. It should be on Trip Adviser, if it isn't already.

I had a very yummy cocktail and enjoyed the post-dinner tea and dessert. The dinner entrees and sides were really salty this time, which was surprising because the food is usually amazing. The kale was so salty, I couldn’t eat it.

Sorry it took me so long to get here! I've been trying for 2 years to go there, finally did, and wish I'd been going all this time! Amazing food, excellent service, and a very interesting interior. Special mention: the brussels sprouts, the New York steak, and the fried chicken. (the chocolate pot de creme was also very very good!)

First time at Bull Valley tho we've been to Port Costa in the past--never for dinner
and never at night. Bay Area people know that the road is not for those who are nervous
about curves and crumby roadbed in the dead of the night. However the view en route is
great regardless of whether you come from Crockett or Martinez.
And definitely worth the ride for Bull Valley. We had foodie guests in from Brooklyn who totally enjoyed the experience. The sharing of food routine is ok and what it really means is the portions are quite large. Fried chicken, pork chop (thick and thus sliced), salad, macaroni and cheese side dish were all judged to be excellent. Pumpkin cheesecake and coconut (?) sherbet, ok; pot de creme nothing special. Drinks appreciated. Menu suggested a mai tai a la Vic Bergeron so I agreed and it was definitely the most authentic mai tai (not horribly sweet and obnoxious) that I've even heard about in years. The others had more standard drinks and beer.
So the road out there means you're not going too often but it's definitely worth the trip. On a Saturday night the place was filled. And of course just looking out at the Delta and the other side of the water from the end of the street is always a good reason to go to Port Costa. Calm and beautiful.

Meals are meant to be shared family style--fun. Not a huge menu but varied. Food was wonderful. Large wine list . Beer list is mostly micro brewed bottles--limited draft beers.
Quite a few specialty drinks...very unique. Staff is great. This was our first experience and can't wait to go back. Great for dates and friendly groups..not a quiet place but ok for conversation. Patrons all seemed to have a good time. Interior has a rustic feel with lots of antique stuff. Food was wonderful. Recommend reservations....Saturday night was very busy and people still waiting as we left around 9PM. A bit of a ride on windy roads but well worth the trip. Did I say food was wonderful?

This was our 2nd visit and it was as not a pleasant as our first...the food is really overpriced. Service is okay but not as attentive for the price as it should be.
The cocktails are different but not as special as the price. I am not opposed to higher menu prices but I like to feel it was worth it...

The last time we dined at Bull Valley it was under different owners. So, our dining experience was a bit different then what we were expecting. Next time we will ask not to share a table with another party. The party next to us keep moving the divider away from them and closer towards us. Service was a bit slow, since there was several large parties dining at the same time but the server did her best to make up for that. Love that the restaurant is carrying on the wonderful vibe that Port Costa has to offer. We enjoyed Wedge Salad, Steak with vegetables, Biscuits and Gravy, and Hummingbird Cake. The steak was cooked to perfection.

The food, as always, was absolutely delicious. However, we only saw our waiter for about 60 seconds while he took our order and one more time when he delivered our check. Took 20 minutes after we arrived for someone to ask if we wanted drinks or water. We would have had a second round of cocktails and wine with dinner, but couldn't get anyone's attention to place our order. The kitchen forgot our mashed potatoes order and finally delivered them after we got our bill (and charged us for them!). If it weren't for the food, I'd never go back.

Horribly aggressive negative service. I don’t need the busboy rushing me ever, but especially not when the restaurant wasn’t busy and we weren’t moving slowly. Simple things like replacing a dirty appetizer plate for the next course should be an automatic. I’m really surprised and disappointed with the inept service. I’ve been there at least twenty times and this may be the last. Boo.

It's a bit of an unusual drive to get to Port Costa. It is literally at the end of the road, and the town is very small and historic in a non-gentrified way. Nonetheless, the Bull Valley Roadhouse is a fun dining choice. It designs the menu for table sharing of the various courses, and the food is very good. They specialize in antique cocktails as well as more modern ones.

First visit, food was so good, outstanding actually. The suggested wine was perfect with my meal, my husband and our friend enjoyed the beer selections. Wish the music was toned down just a bit, the louder the music the louder the room chat and so on.
Was a bit dark for these eyes but I was accommodated - see attached photo

This restaurant was Way OVERLY EXPENSIVE. The food tasted good, but the sharing menu was unexpected (I'd read that was for larger groups). Service was okay. Noise was Extremely Loud such that we could only hear the person next to us - not across the table from us. The cost was purely SHOCKING. We will not return.
