The Bull Valley Roadhouse serves American roadhouse food prepared from scratch with century-old techniques using fresh ingredients from our favorite small farms. A beacon at the end of a canyon road in the historic dock town of Port Costa, the roadhouse welcomes locals, travelers and adventurous day-trippers alike in its 1897 landmark dining room and bar. Stepping into the saloon-like rooms, guests can sense more than 100 years of hospitality. The proprietors strive to maintain that warm tradition and leave everyone feeling relaxed, well fed and eager to return. Look for us under the golden bull.

What a wonderful treat it was to find this gem hidden away in sleepy Port Costa. We had the slow-cooked pork stew on a bed of luscious polenta, the roasted broccolini with lemon rind, and topped it off with chocolate pot de crème. We’ll come back again for their famous mussels. The service was like their food, charming and very special.

Getting there is half the fun. The drive has spectacular views of the Bay and the country side of green pastures. The scene is exciting with hundreds of bikers across the street on a Sunday afternoon. The food is delicious and great for sharing. The cocktails are potent and different. Good time!

My wife and I had an amazing dinner and started out at the Bar for a few AWESOME drinks - I love this place and also recommend staying at the hotel next store. Enjoy!

grossly over priced, I ordered scalloped potatoes that were crunchy in the center. They said "We'll bring you some bread to hold you til the food comes", then charged $4 for it. The food, overall was acceptable but when I pay $160 for a meal I expect it to be very special, this was not and the menu was very weird.
My impression of the place is that they are trying to appear "trendy" while gouging customers for every penny they can.

Simply outstanding in every regard … and so well worth the adventurous drive to get there. If you haven't yet experienced this excellent dining venue, do it. You will be amazed and never forget it.

Wonderful dinner, fantastic service. We ordered the clams and Josey Baker bread to start, then the fried chicken and biscuits with side of gravy. Delicious! The clams are the best we've ever had, esp with the garlic butter crostini they put in. Wow! That alone would be perfect for dinner.

Very nice drive to Port Costa...even in the rain. The Roadhouse was more than I expected and I love the ambiance, even tho it was a little noisy. Next time we may try to sit at the bar. The Ham Hock Hash was massive and so doggone tasty we were happy to take part of it home. The waffle with dates was sweet, but very good. Order bacon to go with it. While the bloody mary wasn't to my liking, the pre-1903 lager was soooo good.

You need to make the trip to Port Costa!!! The food, service and ambiance was excellent. One star off on the service because we ordered the ribeye and the scalloped potatoes and the potatoes came out about 10 minutes after the steak. Waaaaah! The food was absolutely fantastic and the portions are large enough to share. We had to refrain from licking the plates. Make a weekend out of it and stay at the Biltmore Hotel. One of the best meals we've had and a great weekend to boot! We will definitely be back.

I have been to the restaurant before, but this time was the best experience. I was there with my husband and my cousins who have not dined at this restaurant before. Our server immediately greeted us and provided us with recommendations. He was attentive but did not hover over us during our meal. My husband's piece of chicken was a bit raw in the inside. The server immediately apologized and took the chicken back to the kitchen and brought my husband a new cook piece of chicken. The kitchen also gave us a complimentary bowl of biscuit and gravy. And for dessert, one of the other server heard us talking about the donut with chicken skin. It sounded intriguing but we ordered the ice cream instead. When the ice cream came out, the server also gave us the donut at no charge. My cousin was also impressed on the server's knowledge of the choices of teas available. Overall, the whole experience was outstanding with friendly staff and delicious food.

Amazing place. Expensive for my working class self, but completely worth every penny. Service was impeccable. Food was impeccable. Had the ribeye, and I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a ribeye that great before. Melted in my mouth. Had a great experience and will definitely go back again and again.

This was my first time coming to the Bull Valley Roadhouse. I went with 5 other family members to celebrate my Birthday! All staff was very welcomeing 😀 We all had such a great time! The service was perfect especially with keeping our drinks replenished, the food was off the hook amazing, the drinks (alcoholic beverages)...WOW AND to top it off the dessert was delicious. Definitely will return in the future!!!!!

Other than some weird portion ideas on the menu, all of the food is very good, the staff is great, and I love the atmosphere and location. There are a couple of things about the menu that didn't jive for me, though. I'm not sure if their menu is always set up mostly with a Sharing concept for the main dishes, but it was on the night we last ate there. We had the salmon and fried chicken, and both were not sharing sized portions. The salmon was a normal dinner portion, and the chicken was a 4-piece platter with two biscuits, so really it was one piece and a biscuit more than a normal dinner plate. It ended up working well for us, but according to the menu, that would have fed 4 people. Worse was the Bull Valley Grog cocktail at $28 and advertised as a sharing cocktail for 2-4 people. It absolutely isn't. It's the size and strength of a good tiki bar Mai Tai. It tasted good, and I could have had three, except for the $28 price.

We shared the burrata, brussel sprouts, pork chop, and scalloped potatoes. Portions are large enough for two and all were delicious. Service was attentive and informative. Definitely worth the drive along the narrow, winding road.

Delicious food but the menu was a little pricey for Port Costa. We split dishes to make it work. GREAT fried chicken, the best we've eaten. Beats out the Casa Orinda's fried chicken and half the cost....go figure. It's worth the drive! We'll be back.

This restaurant is nice. I was disappointed because I come in for the ribeye steak and they had a sirloin which for me was not even as good. There menu online said ribeye when I got there they did not have it

We loved the destination drive to Bull Valley. We were first seated in small strange doorway with a broken chair. When we asked to move, we were quickly and kindly reseated to a nice table and chairs. The drink and food menus had plenty of offerings. The food was delicious, but we did feel a bit rushed. We hadn’t finished our courses before we were asked if we wanted our plates cleared. We will come back again with friends so we can share more plates and further enjoy the experience.

Hidden Gem.. SHHH we shouldn't tell anyone about this place because we want it all to ourselves. BUT it's amazing, staff is super sweet, food is amazing and changes ALL the time, and ambiance, well, if you love old you'll love this place. It's all about the 20's (except everyone bathes and there's no foul smells) and the food is ON POINT. But please don't tell anyone, because we want this place all to ourselves!

After four visits here I think this is now my favorite destination (sort of staycation) restaurant. A beautiful drive, an understated town, cool dive bar across the street, eclectic ambiance and literally the most delicious food (with great service). Not much more I could ask for. If you’ve never been you have to give this a try. It’s a very special experience all around.

The Bull Valley Roadhouse is a cute spot. I like the old timey decor. They bring back old time charm with their drink menus both alcohol and non. However, its extremely expensive and served small family style plates. Everything is ala cart and that's how a small meal gets the big price tag. In addition to the sizes are small.
It's a nice drive to Crockett but if your looking to eat I would suggest else where unless your a big spender.

Excellent brunch! So good that it was my second visit in 2 weeks. Start with the buttermilk biscuits, you won’t be disappointed!
