The Bull and Beggar
This is the place for an interesting variety of foods cooked and served with perfection!
Absolutely the best, and most surprising meal I've had in Asheville in years! Our server Devon was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, attentive, and great guide, without ever being too pushy. He seemed to strike the perfect balance of being there just enough, and never too much. The best aspect of the service however was how much pride and enthusiasm Devon obviously had for his job, the restaurant, and the food. Our bartender (I believe her name was Sarah), also super knowledgeable and incredibly welcoming.
The food was absolutely ethereal, not a single dish that was anything less than 5-stars! The chefs have really raised the bar in an already great food city. But it was the service that took the meal from great, to absolutely unforgettable. As a 30+ year veteran of the hospitality industry I can tell you this kind of service and food is far too rare this day in age, but these guys are doing it!
You'd be doing yourself a disservice not to eat at this place as soon as you can.
Creative menu. Off the beaten path.
One of our favorite places to eat, drink and relax by ourselves or with friends for an early meal. Great cocktails, amazing variety of fresh oysters, terrific ploughman’s plate and octopus. Always consistent, with knowledgeable and friendly servers.
It was great. Don’t screw around and go enjoy.
Oysters galore, bread service, followed by small plate of grilled octopus and a salad. A glass of full bodied red wine.
Who could ask for more?
Another excellent meal at B&B. Never fails to be great in both food quality and service. I bit pricy but you get what you pay for. Thanks again. Mark.
Do yourself a favor and order the soft scrambled eggs.
People were very friendly, food was excellent and ambiance was very nice. I had 2 dozen oysters- 6 of four different varieties. They were spectacular, very well presented and each were named so you knew what you were eating.
We had small dishes for dinner, my wife had the Halibut dinner which she enjoyed immensely. I had the foie gras. It was excellent. We had an Italian Wine which was recommended to us by our waiter. Very very good.
I would highly recommend this place
Great food and good atmosphere. Lobster roll was amazing. Also liked the small plate options.
I have been several times already to this restaurant, as always excellent service. The food however, seemed even better than usual. The filet was perfect, hard to believe how good it was. Had dreams about that one.
My Wife, and I have dined several times at your restaurant; this time around no surprises, excellent food, optimal service.
Would like to see your wine list to offer a larger variety, and qualities.
Phenomenal food and excellent service. The 34oz steak is a slice of heaven!
The food was amazing, but the service was disappointing. We are from New Orleans so we eat out very often and I used to work in the service industry, so I expect a certain level of service. The place was not even half full. It took over 5 minutes to get greeted and 15 minutes to get drinks. Our server was disinterested, it seemed. However the food was fantastic! We had the Ploughman’s Charcuterie plate and pommes frites. DELICIOUS. We would have ordered entrees but I was aggravated with the service so we left to go to another place for entrees. Just a tip, prompt greeting and prompt cocktails are crucial to a good meal.
This place has to have the best steaks in Asheville ! Absolutely delicious! Our server was personable and new the menu well. We can’t wait to return.
Excellent overall; a bit pricey but didn’t disappoint.
Reservation for five; got there about ten minutes early and had to sit outside on very hot day until doors opened PRECISELY at 5 pm. Maybe consider opening doors but not seating until 5???
Waited over 10 minutes and no one ever came to the table. We ended up leaving after the menu was extremely overpriced.
Cote de boeuf is phenomenal
Met every expectation. My brother-in-law discovered he likes oysters. Credit the two-tier seafood platter.
Great service, interesting and diverse menu, so glad we got to experience this place
Great family dinner on their special Monday burger night. The burgers are always fantastic and absolutely the juiciest in AVL! Go check them out!
Best hamburger that I have had in Asheville and service was extremely good.
We always go at 5 for the shell fish happy hour. The oysters are delicious. After a dozen oysters each we had two salads, both yummy followed by a fried oyster appetizer and grilled octopus appetizer for our main courses. All delicious and quite filling. Excellent service.
A fantastic experience! The food was delicious - highly recommend the hush puppies (seriously). Service was excellent and so accommodating to our kids (9 and 5). Highly recommend next time you are in Asheville!
As always....FABULOUS food!
We absolutely love this place! Our go to menu items are the Cote De Boeuf and the grilled octopus- both amazing here!
Enjoyed my Birthday Dinner at Bull and Beggar. Oysters are my thing and they were wonderful! My server was very helpful in choosing just the right ones. He was extremely knowledgeable.
The cauliflower side dish was not to my liking. It was grilled, but was very hard, and therefore difficult to enjoy.
Best burger in town.
I am a Burger Fanatic and the burgers at Bull and Beggar (a Monday special) are the BEST bar none. I used to think they were the 2nd best, but after being there this past Monday it's moved up to Number One. Killer!
While this is certainly an upscale restaurant, we felt perfectly comfortable having all our kids with us! They were well-behaved and well-fed. The lighting is just right - not too dark and not too bright. Staff was amazing and checked on us frequently, which we needed. The food was amazingly delicious. We had their infamous burgers as well as many of the appetizers. Our stay was about an hour, which was perfect with kids.
Absolutely fantastic meal. Don’t judge the restaurant by the parking lot or drive up. Just need to dodge the potholes. The cheese board was wonderful and the meal got better with each dish. The filet was excellent prepared perfectly. The broccoli was a treat. We finished with the caramel chocolate tart and it was great. Highly recommend Bull and Beggar. An absolute gem.
Fantastic food, quiet atmosphere, laid back unpretentious. Very upscale and awesome ambiance.
I love the food at this restaurant but it’s very very expensive.
Fabulous atmosphere. Exquisite food. Nicely paired cocktails and wine. Upstairs loft seating offers a different and unique perspective on this gem. Highly recommended!
I live in Manhattan, and I have been to many restaurants, and this one is superb! The server was so engaging and professional. He went out of his way to help us decide on a lovely meal. We were on vacation in Asheville, and recommendations viewed on OpenTable led us to this unique GEM!!! It is truly worth a visit! Wonderful European flair and outstanding service! The Chef is very talented and the staff all seem to enjoy serving the customers. The clientele also seemed to be locals, artists, business owners that were invested in a great experience. I will definitely return again!
One of my favorite restaurants in Asheville. Atmosphere is perfect for a date or girls night out. Be aware, this is not an inexpensive restaurant. You will probably drop $100+ per person if you get a bottle of wine. But, it’s a nice treat if you like a raw bar and small portions.
Good variety in small plates and entrees. Dishes well balanced and inventive. Space is inviting. Noise could be an issue but it was nice (good energy) while we were there
Our server devon was amazing! He was knowledgeable about the food and pick the perfect cocktail for me! We’ll definitely be back!
As prior posters have mentioned, gotta make it here for the burger. We were pleasantly surprised by the caramelized onions and, despite popular opinion, the bun! As a HUGE ketchup fan, I ate this dry... that's saying something!
Also highly suggest the Tipsy Daisy, basically the love child of a French 75 and a margarita.
My husband's gulf shrimp and lobster roll were also a winner. The lobster roll had large pieces of meat and minimal sauce. The bun was nice and toasty and added a great texture. The lobster roll was enough for a meal given there was also a small side of chips and the meat was plentiful!
Excellent as always. Creative and superb food and drink. Attentive and professional service. One of the top restaurants in Asheville. We are never disappointed.
