The Bull and Beggar
We have been at Bull and the Beggar's Monday Hamburger night several times. We decided to take our friends from out of town for their great burgers. They loved it. I believe the burger is the best in Asheville. One in the group raved about the octopus, tender and delicious. Service was friendly and attentive as always. Great fun evening!
Awesome spot. Steak was delicious.
Loved this place!! Nice selection of wines. The presentation of the food was fantastic-every single bite was amazing!! Much thanks to the kitchen staff for all their talents!! Service was above and beyond! Next time I am town- I am looking forward to trying more menu items!!
Absolutely amazing! We had oysters, the charcuterie, bone marrow, and charred octopus. Simply amazing! Highly recommend the octopus...and the bone marrow...and the charcuterie...and oysters! Just everything was outstanding! Daniel R was our amazing server, extremely attentive, very friendly, very professional. The location looks a little rough, but it’s a 5 Diamond in the ruff. Will return.
Great oysters , great service , very nice atmosphere. Little too pricy but great for occasional visit !
Service and food was exceptional!
Great place! Food was wonderful and service was great
They have changed the menu so some of our favorites weren’t available. That being said we got way outside our comfort zone and tried several new features and were pleasantly surprised. The home run of the night was the Dry Aged Bone in Rib Eye!
Our second time dining at Bull & Beggar, and this is quickly becoming our favorite restaurant in Asheville. The service is INCREDIBLE, one of the best servers we've ever had. And the food and ambiance are amazing, and so perfectly dialed in. We can't wait to dine here again very soon. Thank you!
Did not enjoy choices offered. Very unusual. Overpriced small portions
Great to be back and happy to see food and service still excellent. Seafood tier was delicious
We come here most Monday’s bc it’s close to our house and our favorite place to drop in for a great burger! Food is A+ and the always changing menu never disappoints!
Outstanding food...octopus, lobster roll, sardine saur, roasted venison, skate wing, fresh house-made sorbets and ice cream...highly recommend all!!! Daniel, who cared for us all evening, is professional, very knowledgeable, entertaining, and added immeasurably to our overall experience. Noisey upstairs. A must while in Asheville ... A oner!
Consistently the best restaurant in Asheville.
We loved the food and the environment! Service was phenomenal! We got the dry aged 34oz ribeye and shared and it was cooked to perfection! 10/10 recommend!
We went to celebrate my hubby’s birthday. We shared oysters, charred octopus, and 34 oz. dry aged ribeye. Was amazing!
Great food and excellent service. Very friendly staff
The Octopus was tender and delicious and the cheeseburger was very tasty. The service was great as always. Definitely would recommend Bull and Beggar and we will be back.
We loved the ambiance, but didn't love the food we ordered. The fingerling hors duerves with venison was a let down because it was a dusting of venison. The beef tartare was good. The filet was a let down because it was lost in a pool of pork fat wine reduction that overwhelmed the dish. I loved the potato tartiflette, but the strong cheese smell was too much for my husband. Our server was great until he forgot our last cocktails. We appreciated him bringing us a taste the zinfandel because we wouldn't have enjoyed it, but we never received our drinks when we said we'd have another. Overall, we will recommend friends to go because we enjoyed our experience, but we won't be back. The other three entrees (34 oz ribeye, pork chop, and cod poached in lobster butter) don't appeal enough for a return visit.
The food was absolutely incredible. Daniel was probably the best server I’ve ever had. Can also make some entrees by getting sides with some of the small plates. The desert was also delicious. Everything about it was wonderful
Our favorite place when we stop in
Great service, wait staff is knowledgeable about the menu, respectable wine, beer, cider selection, delicious fresh food selection. The hake fish dish was buttery and cooked to perfection. Would recommend to friends and would return for sure.
We sat at the bar, the food and service was excellent!
The food is always delicious and the staff is wonderful and friendly :)
Wasn’t up to my expectations. Filet was crunchy ( overdone not seared and sealed) and tasted almost burnt on one side. It was also drowning in a wine sauce which had a very runny consistency, and no depth of flavor. I ordered the seasonal cabbage side dish which was only 1/3 cooked. Crunchy cold cabbage is coleslaw not an elegant side dish.
Once it got busy, server disappeared, and I had about 2 bites of my meal left when she finally came to ask about my meal. I also tried flagging other people down, but was ignored. So of course I don’t want you to go make me another that’s better.
My father was a chef and I’ve eaten in both James Beard and Michelin recommended restaurants in NY, Chicago, LA, Paris, Rome etc, so I really do know what I’m talking about.
It was a nice anniversary dinner!
We really loved this place. Definitely a hidden gem. We were visiting so we drove there just to figure out where it is. Ended up taking an Uber because of rain.....but if you are driving and not familiar with the area, recommend scoping it out.
The ambiance is great. A repurposed portion of the bldg. that was done nicely. The food was excellent...try the charred octopus and peal salad. The only complaint was the menu is a little limited. However, that wouldn't stop us from going back.
If you are a raw oyster lover, this place is for you. Good selection available.
We always enjoy a nice dinner here. My husband continues to stick with the filet. I enjoy the seasonal small plates and appetizers.
A wonderful meal. Great service and extensive drink selection. Cannot wait to return. If we lived in AVL we'd be there once a week, or more! The Cote de Buofe is among the finest cuts of beef my wife and I have ever enjoyed and we've tried many!!
The preparation and presentation is top shelf. The prime steak houses could learn a thing or two from The Bull and Beggar. Our "must visit" place when in WNC.
Wonderful food and beverages. Our bill totaled more than expected so we will choose this restaurant only on special occasions.
Fillet sauce too salty. Not happy with potato au gratin.
Great food great service
We are in Asheville for our Anniversary and friends recommended The Bull and Beggar for a nice celebratory meal... we are so glad they did. Everything was absolutely delicious (food and cocktails) and service was impeccable. I loved the ambiance of the restaurant as well.
Our server, Daniel, was outstanding. Excellent Monday burger special!
The filet mignon was beyond incredible. Food was delicious.
Robin was our server again And she did a great job as always. The service provided is such that you are never looking around for anyone but don’t feel bothered. She makes great recommendations. This is a favorite for us. I like to try the seasonal small plates and my husband sticks to the filet.
My husband and I have visited two years in a row for our anniversary and have been back multiple times in between with friends. This is hands down one of our favorite menus and wine lists. If you are visiting Asheville this place is a must.
30 minutes to get a drink (after ordered which took 10 minutes)...because the bar got slammed....lame...they brought me a carrot and a radish to say sorry for the loon minute wait on the drink...yes a carrot and a radish!
Food okay too good. Clams and oysters were incredibly tiny. Steak was good. Cant say about dessert as I was offered any.
This place has a limited menu and inadequate staff. Could be very good but they have a LONG way to go on getting their act together.
Look elsewhere until they improve.
Dinner with friends on a Sat night...2 couples. We had wine and cocktail. My cocktail Relampago was awesome. A mezcal+tequila w/bitters truly one of a kind. My wife had filet mignon, I had bucatini w/tuna, hush puppies. Our friends had suckling pig and halibut. All food was good. The pasta had a great sauce and tuna was mild. Even though this was in the small plate category I thought the portion was too small for price. I tried some of my wife’s steak...it was very good also with good sauce. We all shared the tiramisu and it was great as well. Cool venue with good vibe. I consider the only shortcomings were a very loud noise level due to concrete floor with no sound control. So loud we had to shout so it takes away from the experience. Also, food portions were small for the price.
Prime Rib special was not good. Lousy piece of meat for $30. Everything else was very good.
