What Insiders Are Saying
The Bristol is an American restaurant in Bucktown good for any date or small group of friends.
Brunch was amazing. We had a hard time deciding what to order, because everything sounded delicious. Everyone loved their food and the service was great.
Great hospitality and team! The food was awesome—the basque cake is a must have. Thank you!
I've been wanting to go to the Bristol for several years and was looking forward to this visit. Overall, it was somewhat disappointing with the signature chicken dish the most disappointing of all. The chicken I make at home is about as good. The duck fat fries weren't as good as many hot dog stands. The service was ok but not particularly attentive. On the positive side, the brussel sprout appetizer was excellent and we had a good table.
Seasonal menu with some consistently tasty favorites (Duck Fat fries, Monkey bread, Basque cake). Always fun and lively. Do know that the tables are very close together.
Our 2nd time here was just as good as the 1st. Every dish we had was delicious and perfect portions. Menu changed completely, but didn’t disappoint. We had the Tuscan Salad, Amish Chicken (which we had before) and the Steak. Next time my wife and I won’t wait 2 years before returning!
One of my favorite restaurants happens to be right in my neighborhood! It never disappoints!
Average food that could be prepared by a first year culinary arts student. All not bad but nothing special. Duck grease French fries were tasty. Risotto was bland and the egg ravioli was cold inside. Small serving sizes with high price. The full trout could have been cooked better on a campfire and been less dry. For nearly a $25 cost for only about 4oz of edible fish, not a good value. Server was attentive and dis a great job even with a full restaurant.
OUTSTANDING! Super pro and attentive service, trout and pasta dishes cooked to perfection. Great mixology. Warm interior design. The 4 of us on a Sat evening had a great time.
This place does really great food. The dishes are inventive and they're executed flawlessly. The duck-heart gnocchi was a bit challenging for my wife, but I loved it (especially with the pesto sauce and pomegranate seeds - BRAVO!!). Overall, I think you will find it just as good or better than the more noteworthy places of this variety (Longman & Eagle, Girl & the Goat, etc.). By the way, we dined for dinner but I'm interested in getting to know the brunch menu as well. Great service and hosting staff as well.
Great staff. Would do it again tomorrow.
Such a disappointing night. We waited 15 min for water and another 10 for a drink. Our plight was recognized by management but not the server. Utensils were not give so even after the food was presented after an hour, we couldn’t eat. The food was so-so and no comps for an obvious blunder in service. Server simply asked “what can I get you” once we were finally approached. Never go back.
I rarely leave a restaurant hungry - but we all left famished, after an appetizer and what I presumed would be fulfilling risotto. Nope.
Had dinner for 2 people on a Saturday night. It was busy and all of the tables were full. We were promptly seated for our reservation at 8:00pm. The service was outstanding! Highly recommend the Amish Chicken - it was some of the best chicken I've ever had. The Basque Cake was to die for. We most definitely will be back.
Great atmosphere and food was very good. Not sure the portions warrant the price. Had the 1/2 chicken & spatzel. Not much spatzel but it was very tasty.
The food is good, though the menu is a it limited. Service, however, while friendly, was intolerably slow.
Spectacular service and wonderful, fresh food.
Drinks were amazing! House made cider and bourbon was excellent. We will return!
The food was good. Loved the brussels sprouts. Mains were okay. The half-chicken was VERY dry, but we did order it with the "gravy" (gluten) on the side. Nothing special about the arctic char. The portions were good though and the happy hour drink menu was awesome! It got and felt crowded as the restaurant filled up quickly after we arrived at 5:30. Only other complaint is that the food took a long time (50+)min with only a couple other people dinning.
Drove in from Rockford based upon a recommendation from a relative.
Found this Bucktown fine dining restaurant in a very nice and stable
neighborhood. It was Halloween evening. Lots of children and
families all around as we walked from free parking on Hoyne.
Enjoyed Happy Hour wine. The monkey bread and broccoli appetizers
were excellent. We sampled the alfredo pasta which was very good
as well. Our entrees were the chicken dish and salmon. Both were
tasty and exceptional. For dessert we had the Basque cake and
French press coffee. Lovely dinner and evening.
creative menu and presentation i would go back and cant often say that
They crammed too many people into a small space to make more money for the evening which made it extremely loud.
Bustling, energetic atmosphere with great, interesting spin on many popular foods. Service was spectacular!
This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city and the best in Bucktown. I have literally sent hundreds here and no one has been disappointed. On a recent visit, Eliott (our server) was perfect - attentive but not "all over us." We have our fave dishes but always try one "new" seasonal item each visit. We live just down the block and feel fortunate it's so close.
The ambiance was great and energetic, but wasn’t thrilled with the food. Perhaps it was just the choices they had that night, but the Trout was bland, my salad was bland and the only thing that was good was the chicken liver mousse, but that isn’t my opinion it’s of my significant others. Sorry, but to me the food just wasn’t anything to rave about.
The food is great but unfortunately they seemed short staffed the night we visited. Our server was working a large section and doubling as hostess, so I understand, but would expect the manager or another employee to help in these situations. We had to call her over to able to place an order and waited about 30 minutes from when we sat down for drinks to arrive.
Highly recommend the raviolo!
I died and went to food heaven. The monkey bread with the raviolo...OMG! It's definitely a "treat yo'self" spot :)
The staff was attentive and great. They really made our anniversary dinner special. Comping a couple of things was a nice touch definitely but it was the service and food quality that made the experience special.
Always amazing with great service and quality food! Best burger in Chicago.
This experience could have been a disaster but wound up being fantastic. We arrived at the designated time for our reservation (4 of us) and were told that they were running behind. This was ok - we were not in a big hurry and we went to the bar...an waited. We were kept informed by the hostess -people were not leaving. The bartender comped our cocktails. We waited for quite some time but felt totally looked after by the staff - the manager came over and apologized as well. When we finally got a table we were then comped a bottle of wine. All the people we interacted with - the hostess, the manager, and the bartender could not have been nicer and more accommodating in a difficult situation. We actually laughed and told them they were so nice that people took their time and lingered. We had a great meal and a great time and would go back in a Chicago minute!
We were so underwhelmed by our food that we would never go back to the Bristol. The kale salad was so salty we had to send it back. The salmon was served over a creamy mushroom sauce that did not go at all with the fish. The best part of the meal was our server, female with short blunt dark hair, friendly and exceptional. We loved her. Hated the food. I feel cheated by how much money I spent on such bad food. The chef should be replaced. How does The Bristol keep coming up as one of the city's hot restaurants?
The Bristol never disappoints. I recommend sharing one or two starters/small plates and also a pasta. Then each diner should get his/her/hir own entree. If it is your first time dining, you should not pass up the duck fat fries and the roast chicken.
Yum! Food and cocktails are very worth the money!
I loved the choices on the menu. The only thing that I didn't like was the monkey bread. I was thinking of what I had as a kid - sweet, gooey, yummy. This was the opposite, it was fine but not the same. The steak tartare was outstanding and so was the steak. I would go back for sure.
Pasta dishes were very small given the high price.
Love the room. Service was great. But we were shockingly disappointed with the food. We shared chicken liver mouse, which was OK. Burger was OK. But the brussel sprouts were dramatically oversalted -- pretty much inedible. So were the fries -- and how often are fries inedible? I asked for an alcohol-free drink, and while they gladly came up with something, it's apparent that they don't plan for such a request. For a place that's known for its food, we left super-disappointed.
Really enjoyed our time here!
Good selection of cocktails, nice list of starters, and quality entree.
Great food, great service. Never a bad meal here. A great restaurant u can count on not to be let down.
Delicious, beautiful food. Not overly complicated, except that it isn’t easy to create a perfectly simple dish. The Cacio e Pepe pasta was exactly what it was born to become! There were vegetarian options for those in our party who required them, and the service was terrific. You definitely made some new fans in Philadelphia!
Our meal was delicious and everyone was so attentive to our needs. I had the Amish Chicken and my Husband ate the Burger with duck fat fries. We split the basque cake which was yummy!
Except for the very uncomfortable chairs, I love The Bristol. The food is always outstanding, as is the service. I'm so glad to have celebrated their 10-year anniversary with the throw-back menu - it was delicious!
The food was unfortunately substandard. Very disappointed. Will not be returning. Taste your food.
