Apparently they don't seat tables of 5 or more in the darker and sexier street level bar dining room. We along with other 5+ diner tables were relegated to the upstairs brightly lit sanitized room - within reach of the two prominent bathrooms. We waited nearly an hour for our first course. Being not far from the kitchen, we heard staff grumblings - for whatever reason - whenever a pasta dish was ordered. The staff tried to put on a positive face, but it seemed like a common shtick. Not many choices on the menu; maybe 12 (or less) in total. Dishes were either hit or miss, and expensive. One of the saving graces was a Manhattan cocktail with two amaros - the Old Bull. We will not go back.
Excellent tasting menu and the cocktails are always consistently delicious!
Went here at last minute. I was a bit nervous that we got a reservation so late. Want a pleasant surprise. Great food. Great service. I will return
Great Experience! Murphy our waiter along with everyone else’s attention to detail was on point.
Had the 8 course tasting which was outstanding. The wine pairings were brilliant. Very unique and inspired choices. Overall, we had an amazing experience. Will definitely be back again.
The tasting menu was above and beyond! Well worth the price and the price SUPER reasonable considering the amazing meal we got. Can’t wait to try future menus!
Fantastic service ambiance and food!! Everything was delicious and the staff were so warm, welcoming and friendly. The food is exceptional!!!! No favorites bc everything is amazing!
Wow, Chef Larry is pumping out some great dishes from the kitchen. We enjoyed the 8 course summer tasting menu. Each course is thoughtfully curated with Midwest inspiration and paired with wines that add a lovely balance. Highly recommend!
With the new chef the menu has become much more focused and the food is much more interesting. We did the a la carte menu and sampled most of the menu, all the dishes were very good. I’m happy this restaurant has survived pandemic!
What happened to The Bristol? I guess we should have known based on the fact that it was the only restaurant with availability on a Friday night as I attempted to book a reservation the night before at hundreds of different restaurants. Complete disappointment from when we were regulars several years back.
We decided to do the wine pair course which started a little slow but once the dishes started coming the didn’t stop. They were very good an out leering the table clean and giving you new silverware for ever course. The plates are a little small but were amazing. we ordered a little extra at the end mostly because I was still hungry. Both the dishes(bucatini & agnolotti) pasta were amazing! I’ll be back to just try their al a carte menu. (Pictures below) The cocktails (the Kronos club) and expresso martini to wake me up from all the food was outstanding. The real expresso gave me that pick me up that was needed after the all the food. Over all a great experience.
We did the tasting menu with the wine pairing. Food was super unique and interesting, the wine pairings complimented everything perfectly and we loved the service! Would definitely choose this place for another date night / special occasion.
Went there for my 11 year anniversary. My wife and I did the 7 course tasting with the wine pairing. The food was phenomenal, the wait staff was fantastic and the sommelier Nathan was very fun and informative. I highly recommend going there. We were told that the tasting menu will be changed so we will definitely going back.
This restaurant is amazing! Their tasting menu is great and reasonably priced. Great service. We especially enjoyed the sommelier's energy in explaining the wine pairings. Even with a tasting menu, the restaurant feels more relaxed and not stuffy. Great ambiance, food, and service. Definitely recommend!
The tasting menu was excellent. It was too loud for me but I'm old and i hate loud restaurants. Despite that , I'd go back for the food!
Murphy on the service, jazz on the drinks, and Nathan on the vino. This was the best dinner I have had in years !!
Consistently delicious, amazing cocktails, and wonderful service. Seating is cozy.
We did the 7 course tasting menu with the wine pairing. It was wonderful. The food was all excellent with great presentation and lots of depth of flavors, and the wine/liqueur pairings were perfect and a little off the beaten path. The service was also excellent, even though they were busy (Friday night prime time), we always were attended to, the servers and the sommelier were very knowledgeable and seemed genuinely happy to be there. We’ll definitely go back, and would highly recommend the restaurant.
Went with tasting options...both food and wine pairings. Everything was awesome as usual. Service impeccable.
Great experience with fantastic food and excellent service.
Chef Larry, host Arnaud, and the staff provided us with one of the most memorable dinners we've ever enjoyed. The tasting menu is a fantastic value, and the options for wine and other libations go way beyond the suggested wine pairings (which I'm sure are outstanding too). All seven of the courses showed a wonderful combination of originality and accessibility, with all elements beautifully balanced. The presentation of the courses was also perfectly timed, which is always tricky with tasting menus. We felt welcomed at every moment, and the staff went out of their way to ensure that everything was perfect. It is clear that everyone working there is really happy with the place and the people, and their enthusiasm is contagious. We could not recommend the Bristol more highly and hope to return very soon!
The tasting menu was a true ballet of service with outstanding food and flavors.
Delicious food from the tasting menu, fantastic service.
Chose the Bristol for our wedding anniversary dinner spot to try their $75 tasting menu "experience". The experience was the horrible service and not so great food. The only good item on the menu ended up being the 2 bite short ribs. We also got an additional dish, which was the octopus. We were happy with that dish as it actually tasted yummy, but we still left hungry. The ceviche was disgusting, the salad was bitter and not tasty, the soup was so small and taste ok with the 2 bites, the ravioli tasted cold and stale, the salmon was disgusting and had no real flavor and the dessert was so bad we laughed into our napkins. This dinner was not worth it's price (okay buddy). We left hungry and almost 3 hours after we sat down. Our waitress was very overwhelmed and seemed inexperienced. Will not be recommending to anyone and certainly do not plan on coming back when their are much better restaurants in the city.
We had the 7 course tasting dinner to celebrate a birthday and it was fantastic. All the dishes were superb and most imaginatively prepared. Service also was outstanding. The Bristol is one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago.
Great food, has never disappointed with the creativity of the menu, the subtle flavors and farm fresh ingredients. Service is a cut above and it matters!
The Bristol keeps getting better and better. The 7 course tasting is one of, if not the best, value in the city. Perfect execution.
My girlfriend and I absolutely were blown away by one our server and his explanation to everything his up beat personality and friendly smile really made the experience that much better. Than the drinks came out and were made perfectly to our pallets we loathed them. The the 7 course meal started to come out and it was amazing dish after amazing dish blowing us completely away with the every bite. The textures the flavors all so different and artistic. Than we had the pleasure of meeting the chef and it was an amazing experience over all 10/10 highly recommend
I love tasting menus and wanted to take a friend to her first one. When we pulled up it wasn’t busy, which is usually not a good sign. This place changed that assumption. From the attentive service, to the perfect Old Fashioned, to course after delicious course, I was impressed by every aspect.
I really don’t understand how more locals and tourists don’t know about this gem. I highly recommend the tasting menu here - book before they catch on fire and it gets hard to get a table.
Waited an hour past our reservation time to be seated. We were not the only reservation waiting that long. Host and hostess began seating people based on how persistent and frustrated customers were vs when their actual reservation was. Once we were seated, food was very good (bucatini and halibut). Host gave us free champagne and comped one desert to make up for wait. Overall, I would try again during the week when it’s less busy. Food is worth going back for.
Great food but very poor service.
We went last Friday to their 7 course meal, tasting menu with wine pairing. The experience was nothing short of a disaster.
- One of my friends had food restrictions. I had mentioned this upon reservation, and also upon arrival. Nevertheless, the waitperson was not informed of that and had to be reminded about that.
- They were supposed to provide us with the 7 courses over 2 hours, but ended up taking 3 whole hours for 5 courses. At this point, we got frustrated and took the rest as take away.
- Although we had included wine pairings. We didn't get pairings for 3 full courses. One of the courses was served without the pairing. We informed 3 waiters about these, and all 3 of them forgot to bring it for an entire hour, and never did after apologizing for not bringing it and promising us that it is on its way.
- Despite no wine for 3 courses which were supposed to have pairings, we were charged for all of the course pairings.
I was wondering
The drinks were amazing. We had three rounds of the kronos club.
Amazing service. Amazing concept. Made my friends birthday truly a dining experience to remember.
Was a delicious treat in the middle of the week for dinner with our fighter and her boyfriend. Tasting menu is highly recommended! The asparagus soup and the scallop ceviche were so delicious! Wine pairings were fun and interesting as well.
Absolutely amazing. One of our favorites.
Service and food were way over the top. The sweetbreads dish is the best thing that I have eaten in quite a while. Well dun Bristol !
Overpriced for decent food. Good cocktails, fresh ingredients but no taste. Bland IMO.
Did the tasting menu which is a good deal if you’re going to order multiple courses anyway. They actually had adequate staff!! They were super helpful, attentive, and friendly!!
The tasting menu was fantastic and the service impeccable! Outstanding experience.
