The Bristol is an American restaurant located in Chicago’s Bucktown neighborhood. The Bristol has become a staple for Chicago’s local dining crowd, off-duty chefs, and visiting gastronomes looking for a great dinner or weekend brunch. The menu features handmade pasta, farm-fresh produce and a nose-to-tail approach to cooking, thoughtfully crafted by Chef Todd Stein.

Beverages include signature cocktails, a wine list featuring over two hundred producers, and beers from local breweries and around the world.

We visited The Bristol for VD, and this review is based on our experience on this particular day. We made a reservation and got to the restaurant on time just to be informed that they were running approximately 20min late. We asked if we could get a drink and they just told us the bar was upstairs (the host was busy dealing with other couples in similar situations). We went upstairs and observed a very busy room, and even busier bar. Multiple couples waiting to order or to get their drinks. We then realized there was only one bartender dealing with orders from customers at the bar and from the tables. I asked about a drink and the bartender just passed me the drink menu. We understood and empathized with the situation, so just ordered a bourbon and a glass of rosé. It took approximately 25-30min to get the text from the host, indicating our table was ready. We went downstairs to meet her, just to be informed that our table was upstairs and that another host will show us the table after finishing with another customer. We went upstairs again, and waited for her for another 5min. After finally getting our table and the menus, we overheard the waitress informing another couple that the VD main dish was not available anymore. He then came to us and recommended an appetizer; we agreed to that, but he told us he would need to get our full order, so he gave us some time to decide. We waited for him (he was kind and polite, just very busy given the situation), and when we told him we wanted the appetizer he recommended, he informed us that they ran out of that too. We enjoyed our food, specially the “cacio e pepe” and the “basque cake”, but dishes were overpriced. The restaurant might be a good place to get drinks and good food on a regular weekend, but they definitely need significant improvements when planning special events like VD (number of reservations, food orders, staff). The way they handled the event definitely impacted our experience in a negative way.

Waited 35 minutes for drink. Kitchen ran out of vegetarian appetizer. Food was good. Drinks were good but small. Table beside us came in after and was served first. Understandable as they were busy but pretty mediocre experience for the price.

The food was solid and service was initially very quick but no one came back to check with us for awhile after our food arrived and there was no salt/pepper on the table. Otherwise the place was great for brunch and everyone enjoyed the food.

They were very accommodating when our party showed up a bit late for our reservation due to traffic. The food was good - we all shared the monkey bread (decent, nothing outstanding. feels like it was missing some sort of flavor), the steak, the burger, and the sturgeon (all were really nice and we would get again). It was a bit too loud in the place for our taste, we could barely hear one another across the table.
Overall, good (not great), but would recommend to friends and would come back again.

Food was amazing, went there for restaurant week and the portions were so huge I took a lot home. It took a while to get each course which is why I only gave four stars. Wine by the glass was a little pricey but overall enjoyed the experience

I'm sure it costs more to have so many in attendance per guest, but the service was truly attentive and welcome. We never had to sit with dirty plates in front of us, and our next courses were timely, drinks were consistent and delicious. Crystal was our server, and she was fabulous. Food was absolutely terrific, as were the selections. We loved that each course offered 2 choices, and we tried each one, both great! The young lady at the hostess stand could use some insights in being helpful to someone walking in with a cane, and, though early for my reservation, she could have offered me a chair. Most people don't mind that staff are still setting up the dining room, and would rather sit than stand uncomfortably in a cold foyer. As our assigned table was on the wall, and a bench seat, I wasn't in anyone's way. Tables are a little bit close together, but we in the restaurant business do understand this. A great experience, and will recommend. You're all doing a great job!

We’ve had a great experience at the Bristol before but this week was restaurant week and the place was a mess. It was very loud and crowded, our first two course arrived quickly but our entree took an hour to come out. The waiter and manager kept coming over and saying it was almost done but it got to the point where we had to ask them to box it because we didn’t want to be there anymore. All the while the tables around us continued to get their food, we think they forgot to enter our order and failed to admit it. Very disappointed because we loved this place before.

Date night dollowing some city errands. Restaurant Week menu was a great value. The only down side was we ordered Pinot Noir from the corvavin menu but were served and charged for Barolo. Still, it worked with the meal and we plan to go back. The basque cake should not be missed!

The restaurant was 1.5 hours behind, so while arriving at 8 we weren’t sat until 9:30. Ordered from the restaurant week menu. First and third courses were great, however the risotto and cacio e Pepe were terrible. Risotto had no flavor. Same with cacio, but was dripping in oil. Have been to the restaurant before without any problems, but this was an especially bad night. Service was diligent but a bit chaotic.

The Bristol provided a great family style four-course meal for a large group of 9. I made an error on the date of the reservation and they were very gracious in changing it at the last minute. I'd highly recommend this restaurant to everyone!

Everything was spectacular with only exception being the speed with which our ordered drinks appeared. There must have been some issue with the bartender, but they comp'd my martini because it took so long and even tho I didn't complain.

Bartender was amazing. Food was very good but nothing to write home about. Love love love the vibe. Will definitely be back. Valet parking right out front on a snowy night is a bonus!

It’s a good restaurant. We selected wine and the bottle that came was two years younger than the listed vintage. It was opened before we realized. The restaurant was very accommodating in getting us a different bottle. The wine we had was very good. Prices are high for the portions served. Wigu steak was tough. Overall the food is food. The lighting is super dark so bring a fully charged phone. We would return.

Food was amazing, pasta tasted excellent! We didn’t order a single thing we didn’t like! Service was lacking though, our waiter (Jorge) was rarely present and we were left without drinks for long periods of time. Getting our check was even difficult. Support staff was good at keeping our waters refilled though.
Would return for the food and hopefully better service, perhaps it was just a bad night.

Love the food and service at the Bristol. Unfortunately, it's just keeps getting louder and louder, to the point where you can't even hear people across the table from you. They should turn down the music and bring the whole noise level down to accommodate a better dining experience.

The food was over-the-top and we have very sophisticated taste the snails on Texas toast the endive salad blood orange vinaigrette the salmon Rilette was so creamy and the Norred ships or nice and fun and not too salty the fennel garlic sausage stuffed porchetta was flavorful and beyond the Basque “Cake” was I think the best dessert I’ve ever had! And my husband and I are in the food business so we were thrilled with

The food was delicious - we had the scallops and wagyu beef, along with salmon rillette appetizer. The service was top notch. The only draw back is that the venue is small and the tables are very close together, so it was hard to have a conversation given the noise and our neighbors being a foot away.

One of the best fine dining values in a neighborhood spot. Or maybe it's a neighborhood joint with fantastic food, drink and service? Either way, you win. B-side monthly menu is a steal and Happy Hour even more so. You'll be looking for excuses to eat here often.
