The Breadfruit & Rum Bar
First time and we LOVEd it! The drinks, the food; everything was fantastic. We cannot wait to come back
Great food with a Caribbean flair...interesting food combinations, make for an exciting dining experience. The wait staff was unsurpassed in their food knowledge, attention to detail and recommendations for cocktail and and food pairings. Beast Caribbean Restaurant in Phoenix metro area.
Outstanding food. And all the staff were incredibly knowledgeable about the rum, menu and combinations. Outstanding
Menu at this restaurant is quite eclectic, and some combinations seemed out of place. Salads were relatively small portions, yet expensive. Shrimp entree was OK, but small portion. Brisket entree was essentially just the beef and was just OK. Very unusual dessert offerings which were not chosen.
Every visit excites you for your eventual return. The staff is great, excellent service delivery on all counts. The food is delicious, fresh and always seasoned excellently.
Great place our favorite in phx
Fabulous food, awesome rum drinks and great atmosphere. Check out the back patio for after dinner drinks.
The food was okay and extremely overpriced. It was strange as a Caribbean person myself walking into this restaurant and hearing Jamaican music with only Caucasian individuals working and also attempting to make Caribbean food. The ambience was almost nice with the candle light, but you couldn't see the one page menu they left at the table. Overall, it was....different.
Our waitress was very pleasant and explained dishes and drinks very well. It was a little disappointing when our orders took long to receive even though the place didn’t look to busy on a Wednesday eve. Next time I’ll be sure to plan for extra minutes.
Amazing drinks and food!!! I would definitely recommend The Breadfruit & Rhum Bar to anyone looking for something unlike anything else is Phoenix.
Overall I enjoyed my experience and my entree was good. The rum selection is fantastic and the cocktail I had and the sipping rum I tried were both delicious. The plantain appetizer could have used a little more zing in the chutney and my peach dessert, the cookie portion was so hard it was almost unbreakable but once it was broken up it was delicious.
great food and drinks. wish they had a happy hour!
Awesome food, and great drinks. A little pricey for a everyday dining experience. But will definitely return.
Great restaurant, food is amazing and drinks are tasty. Don’t eat here for volume of food, eat here for the experience of eating tasty, more complex flavored dishes. Lastly, don’t sit outside if possible, flies are no joke around the front patio.
We enjoy Breadfruit every time we go. Expect a slow Caribbean style meal.
Delightful Island cuisine brought to the desert - cooked to perfection and spiced just right. Pair your meal with one of many delicious, handcrafted rum drinks prepared by the talented bartenders and you are instantly transported to swaying palm trees and ocean breezes.
Secret Gem... Found!
Jamaican/Caribbean music playing.
Rum Bar 146++ to choose from. They offer a special rum drink of the day, worth trying. Citrus juices freshly prepared, nothing pre manufactured. They do bottle some of their own beverages. Also really good.I had the mussles and sausage entre. It was deliciously spicy and loaded with ingredients, seasoning and juices . There are other less spicy dishes too. Chicken cabbage and pulled pork were our favorites.
You'll truly enjoy the Jamaican flair. Nice crowd.
Quaint residential neighborhood, metered parking, free after 10pm.
The food is delicious but the portions are small. $14.00 for 2 scallops as an appetizer was a bit much. Same with dinner. Great drinks and good service. Left hungry...
This is a solid little restaurant with tasty food. I wasn’t sure what to expect with the restaurant having only searched for a Jamaican place because of my new found love for barrington levy, but, the menu looked good so I thought I’d try it and my expectations were exceeded. Tasty food, knowledgeable and attentive service, a good experience. Will return.
Breadfruit continues to be our favorite restaurant in town. The service is always incredible, as are the good and drinks. We just love it there.
This is not authentic Caribbean food, not to someone who has has lived in NY and eaten in restaurants like sugarcane in BK, the food was nice, but no Caribbean/Jamaican chefs in site, no jerk flavor in the jerk Pork.
Rice and peas was rice.. peas present but without the flavor.
the food was good but lacked the Caribbean taste..
Costly for small portions. Other Caribbean restaurants gives larger portions for less money
Food was a little too spicy, but overall real food.
Party of 5 celebrating a friend's birthday at Breadfruit the insight given on the restaurant itself, the ingredients, and recommendations based on our preferences were all appreciated. Until this experience, I wasn't a big Jamaican food fan, but now I'm a big fan of Breadfruit & Rum Bar! Keep up the great work!
A gem in Town Town Phoenix. Great food people ambiance.
The food is delicious. And the rum selection is impressive. This is a refreshingly different dining experience. All the seafood is super fresh and the classic Jamaican flavors spot on. We had the plantains w mango sauce as a cool down after our meal-and the bar has special after dinner drinks. Go for it!
Compelled to comment on two things from our dining experience.
1) I had a reservation for an outdoor table at 8pm. I arrived at 7:50pm, restaurant was empty except for a few couples at the tables outdoors. I asked if I could be seated and wait for the rest of my party and was told "that's not our policy". My guest arrived a few minuteslater... but by that time someone else was seated outside and I was told "it would be cramped" and we should sit inside instead. That kind of policy is typically in place for casual dining and restaurants with fast turnover... but we dined for 2 1/2 hours. And didn't get the table I reserved. Might want to review that policy.
2) I am lactose intolerant. Not a big deal, but I can't cow's milk cheese or cream sauces. So when I asked if I could get the smoked steelhead trout without the cheddar our server informed us they don't make dietary accommodations and I should just eat around it. Really?
So... the management policies need a little work here and will lend to a better overall dining experience, but, the food was delicious. Shrimp and scallops were fresh and beautifully prepared. Our server made excellent cocktail suggestions.
My brother and I each had two small plates. We both had the pepper shrimp and this dish was quite wonderful - it was excellent. It had sufficient heat and the shrimp was not overcooked. Loved everything about this dish. Order bread to sop up the remaining sauce. Our second plates were fair (the scallops) and awful (trout). The plate had two scallops; colder than room temperature and while it's challenging (if impossible) to infuse scallops with flavor, the accompanying items on the plate didn't help. My brother hated the cold trout dish. He thought the trout was overcooked (he called it 'hard as a brick') and didn't finish it. We passed on the dessert options. My brother also thought the mixed drinks were fair to average; and lacking in any discernable alcohol. Service wasn't the greatest and it took way too long since we only had the small plates. Interiors are tight, i.e., tables are too close and more than two people in an aisle creates a huge traffic jam. Maitre d was nice and tried to help as needed. It's worth a second visit to try some other items on the menu, though. But the pepper shrimp is an absolute must.
Absolutely amazing experience.
The goat curry was very tasty, while the tofu curry was ok.
The service was nice as was the outdoor patio. They really pushed the drinks. We got 2 from the daily punchbowl which were refreshing, weak, and 9$ each. I commented on this to the waiter, who recommended another drink on the menu which might be stronger. We shared dessert, as we often do, which meant only a forkful of pie each.
Overall, a decent night, although a poor value.
As ALWAYS my friends (new group this time) LOVED the experience!!!! Never a let down at Breadfruit! Emiee was ON POINT with the suggestions & pairing. Suggestions didn't matter to me...lol, I start at the top of the cocktail menu and work my way down. Thanks though Emee...lol! OMG, the chemistry & thought behind the 'concoctions' were AMAAAAAAAZING!!!! GREAT JOB once again! LOVE THE EXPERIENCE!! Only, lil "blip" or downer was NOT being allowed by hostess to have the Rum punch while waiting for our table. UGH, I bragged about the rum punch to my peeps....but, we had to wait OUTSIDE until our table was ready. We did get escorted to the rear patio for pre-dinner cocktails, but no sooner there we got seated. ALL GOOD THOUGH! Mojito Gonzalez
We had a very good time! Our waiter Isaac was polite, attentive and offered great suggestions for our before dinner cocktails and our entrees. I would definitely recommend the Breadfruit & Rum, it's great for date night!
Great Rum choices
Fantastic food, atmosphere, and drinks! The waiter had great recommendations and was very attentive. We will go back next time we are in Phoenix for sure.
We had a great time! Olivia was attentive and very knowledgeable on the menu and history of the restaurant. We love hearing where the food we eat comes from, right down to the way the fish was caught! Amazing!
We loved it!!! Such a fun well guided experience by the staff!
This is one of my favorite places in the valley! The food is always amazing, the staff is knowledge and friendly. This place NEVER disappoints!!!!
Service was painfully slow on a night when they weren’t that busy. Had to keep flagging someone down for water and to bring us drinks. Rice in one meal was still hard probably only cooked halfway, shrimp was so so. Scallop appetizer was great. Cigar lounge out back had good ambiance and a little better service.
Exceptional food and drink! Service is excellent also, we were late for a reservation in the past but they made sure to squeeze us in. Once again Olivia helped us navigate through the menus and made excellent recommendations. It was our anniversary and we had such a special time sipping rums and enjoying the ambiance of the space. The chocolate cake dessert special is a must have also. We don’t make it to the breadfruit often, but it’s always worth it when we do.
Bar service was great and the cocktails were really unique and delicious. Food was average and dessert portion was very small. Lost a star because waiter was not able to separate bill out (only between 2 people) and was not told there was an extra charge for ice cream. That being said, everyone was really friendly and overall had a good experience!
