The Boon Fly Cafe
Named for a Carneros pioneer named Boon Fly, who planted orchards and vineyards in the area in the mid-1800s, our café is a homage to local flavor.
Boon Fly, descended from settlers of the early New England Colonies, was part of the great tradition of wagon trains that brought many of the early families west. He was drawn to the farmlands north of the city and settled outside of Napa on a property that would become known as the Fly District.

Great ambiance but service was spotty. Server was professional but it was obvious she had too many table to address.
Food was above average
Wine list needs updating. I ordered 2015 Prisoner. I got a 2019
We loved the patio set up. it was very beautiful and kept us warm
I was disappointed and had high hopes. I understand with C-19 outdoor dining is still new to some places. The Boon Fly was cute upon arrival, but with as much wind there is, they need a much better outdoor enclosure. I had read it gets cold, but had no idea a blanket truly would have been beneficial. I should have gone with my gut and NOT ordered the porkchop, but wanted to try it none-the less. The chop was so over cooked I almost choked at one point. The brussel sprout/veg mix was good, but covered more than 2/3 of the plate. $5.00 for one cup of hot tea was a bit excessive. The biscuits for an appetizer were alright, but the fruit compote was something I could have done with out and had honey instead. I was disappointed in my experience, but can say I have been there. I will not be back.
After making a reservation and showing up and receiving a confirmation email they were not open
We went for a special occasion given we could not get reservations at there alternative restaurant farm at Carneros. Definitely a complete step down. I ordered the beef braised short ribs which were very dry over risotto. The other three in our party only ordered pizzas so those are not too hard to mess up. There is nothing extraordinaire about this restaurant I would give it a two out of five overall
Bring your blanket! They have heaters, but it was still quite chilly. I highly recommend the hibiscus margarita. So yummy. We loved the calamari but it’s not a generous quantity given the price. My husband’s kobe beef burger was a success. He thought it was a good value. I got the margherita flatbread and thought it was good.
The chicken was crispy but bland. The hushpuppies were mushy on the inside with no spice or salt. The sauce on the margarita pizza was missing on some parts of the pizza and the cheese was baked into the dough/crust so the pizza looked very sparse and tasted very bland-no seasoning on this pizza. The donuts and chocolate were excellent.
The food was amazing!! We were seated right away, even though we were early! Our server was great, quick, efficient and very friendly.
Truly a memorable dinning experience!
Very good food! Enjoyed the hushpuppies, shrimp & grits as well as the Kobe burger. The lines were pretty long during Valentines/President's Day holiday but the staff did their best to make the wait comfortable by checking in and even offering refreshments. Would definitely return again.
Fast and great service. Food was delicious! Heating lamps kept us warm while dining outdoors
Never disappointed. I had the gumbo and it was delicious. Date has the Kobe burger and it too was excellent. I asked for an espresso martini, which isn’t on their drink menu, but the accommodated my requested and it was spot on. The new outdoor dining is very nice, elegant, and had heat lamps near most tables. The furnishings were comfortable. The only thing I would add is soft music to the background because you can hear cars from the highway. Overall, Boonfly was excellent. Great staff!
Food was great, but our biscuits came out burnt. But our server made up for it with donuts that were off the chart amazing!
Our experience at Boon Fly is always memorable. Food was excellent. Love the ambiance, like we’re far away from home. Our server was the best. Can’t wait to come back.
You CANNOT leave without trying their donuts!!! So good! Husband had the braised short ribs; rich and creamy! I had the Kobe burger with sautéed mushrooms and they actually cooked it PERFECT (medium rare)! It was my birthday and they brought out a complimentary glass of wine. I will no doubt be back!!
I’ve eaten here before so I know the food would have been good, but I was stuck the corner without a heat lamp and ignored, with no menu ( something about the app and how you had to find the dinner menu, which I could not find). So I left.
Great job with the outdoor patio seating... much more ambiance than we had expected! Same wonderful food and service. Was anticipating your fried chicken the entire day!
If you can't do it right, don't do it. We felt ripped off ($200 for 2 with mediocre food, moderate wine, no dessert) with the make-shift COVID seating: Close to service roadway with utility vehicles parked and operated; table under bright exterior lights with view of inside of restaurant/ now waiter station. As locals, we have been to Boon Fly many times. The value is not usually great, but we enjoy the property, so thought we would give a chance to support the business. The tent seating may have resulted in a better experience.
Very comfortable outdoor dinning
Heater was just right on a cool rainy night .
We always enjoy eating at Boon Fly. Danielle is amazing and we look forward to seeing her every time we go. Outside was nice, heaters were nice. I tried a new wine and it was delicious. These must be such hard times for restaurants and you did fantastic job with your outside eating area. I hope more partake! There were not too many people there on a Saturday night.
If I can tell anyone- Go! It's a wonderful experience, good food, great service and affordable in the heart of the beautiful Carneros region!
Everything was great! The waiter/bartender was entertaining and the rest of the staff was just themselves. They treated us like family! It was my girlfriend’s birthday and they made sure she had the best dinner. One of the best restaurants services I’ve ever experienced. Amazing food too, of course!
Fried chicken, donuts and the service was excellent
Before dinner we had drinks in the “Pavillion” and i was disappointed by how dirty this space is. Look up at the light fixtures and they are full of greasy cobwebs and dust balls. Kind of gross.
great food and terrific service. loved the way you set up outdoors! totally on brand.
Our experience was very good. Unfortunately dining in the Covid era hurts the ambiance when you eat in the parking lot but we made do. The food and service were great.
Service was great. I think I expected a little more starters were good. flatbread was average and fries were good but really over cooked.
They did a wonderful job with the outdoor seating area. It would have been nice to have ambient noise or music playing, though. Food was delicious however a little overpriced for what you get.
Breakfast was great, but going back for dinner a few days later was horrible! Didn’t see our waiter for 45min, never brought appetizer and food seemed like it had been sitting for awhile!
We. LOVE. BoonFly! Everyone there is like family, family that makes my dinner, serves it, supplies the best cocktails, and is super friendly. We enjoyed the best mussels I’ve ever had, flatbread pizza, and a wedge salad. Can’t go wrong with any of the menu items. This day and age....kitchen to front of house were following Covid safety protocols; we felt safe at all times.
Food was great. The Cesar salad and the salmon dish were both very good, fresh and tasty. Our waitress was very friendly and always checking with us to see if everything was Ok. We enjoyed eating in their outdoor space. It was clean and quiet...
This was my first time out for dinner to a restaurant sense the pandemic started. I was out on a date for dinner with my girlfriend and we both really enjoyed our time. The food was great
And Boonfly did a wonderful job with the table settings outside safely distanced from other people. Our server was really nice and accommodating as well. We highly recommend dinning at Boonfly!
We had such a nice time, we sat outdoors, it was set up so nicely. The service was just as amazing as the food and the drinks. We loved everything about it and can't wait to go back. It was amazing.
We enjoyed dining outdoors at Boon Fly for the first time as we kicked off my birthday weekend celebration. The staff were very accommodating and even brought our dog some water and bacon. The outdoor seating is near the highway so some cat noise but not a problem given the current need to dine outdoors. We also had brunch there the next day and the Eggs Benedict and donuts are incredible!
Great food! Excellent service! Planning our next dinner soon. Thank you for a memorable time.
Due to Covid the outdoor dining is under a tent in the parking lot. They tried to make it look kinda rustic with hay bales and planters with limited success. The food
was good as usual and the service attentive. I had the shrimp and grits which was a solid rendition of this southern dish. They only gave 4prawns which was one short of being able to finish off the grits. For $24 would it hurt to throw in an extra prawn? Hubby had the ribs which were spot on. Wine list is on the high side and the addition of some budget friendly wines would’ve incentivized us to order a bottle instead of settling for a couple of wines by the glass.
Lovely outdoor space to eat but next time I will go after six as that seems like when the flies died down.
Fly's everywhere with the doors open, but with Covid we understood why the doors were open. The gumbo was great, but appetizer size so the price was not worth it.
Service was good and everyone was very nice.
Delicious biscuits, fried chicken, and butterscotch pudding. The greens that came with the chicken were also very good but the mashed potatoes were a bit pasty. My husband said his burger was pretty good. The wine list is efficiently small but has variety. Great, friendly service. We ate outside in an improvised setup in the driveway - didn't really bother us.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we ate outside. The outside area was set up in the parking lot, and there was a slight slope to the table. The view wasn't the greatest (the parking lot and a wooden fence, but the fact that it was a warm evening and our server was great more than made up for the lack of ambience.
Awesome service, fantastic food, very cool location and décoré! Unfortunately this place lives up to their name, gotta do something about the flies!!!
fun place to dine during this Corona nightmare. Great food.
