The Boon Fly Cafe
Named for a Carneros pioneer named Boon Fly, who planted orchards and vineyards in the area in the mid-1800s, our café is a homage to local flavor.
Boon Fly, descended from settlers of the early New England Colonies, was part of the great tradition of wagon trains that brought many of the early families west. He was drawn to the farmlands north of the city and settled outside of Napa on a property that would become known as the Fly District.

Fun vibe and great food! Huge portions.
Went to Boon Fly for a laid back anniversary dinner. Staff was attentive old fashioned ‘made-to-order’ yeast dough donuts, rolled in sugar & cinnamon served hot with a rich chocolate sauce. Coffee was a disappointment, chicory tasting, not the rich coffee bean one would expect given the gourmet selection so readily available in the Bay Area.
We ate at Boon Fly a couple times on our stay in Napa. Once for breakfast and once for dinner. Both times were exceptional. The food and service were great.
This is a perfect meal before or after a visit to Domaine Carneros. Charming spot with a nice variety in the menu.
It was a nice way to spend an anniversary
Boone Fly is THE go to restaurant for us...especially when we want a friendly place to take out of town guests. Tamara, Danielle, Juan, and the entire staff are attentive and always offer great service. Fried chicken, the Kolbe burger, or the salmon are great. Love this place!
Such a great meal. Honestly the Salmin might have been the best I ever ate! Service was first rate. Felt very safe with COVID protocols. I highly recommend, not just for brunch!
Started with the warm buttermilk muffins, which were excellent. Enjoyed a NY steak and Gumbo for main courses. Food was very well prepared. We will definitely go back again.
Long wait, even with a reservation. Thirty min +. Everything else was great. Only the one complaint.
Very good food. We liked the pork chop, fried chicken, and asparagus.
I love their food, service and ambiance. I should’ve remembered our sever’s name because she was outstanding! But everyone there is very friendly and helpful.
I had their burger and it was cooked to order. Their drinks are also incredible and well balanced.
Best Delicious biscuits
I love this place so much that I go every time I'm in the area. They are very accommodating and thoughtful. They even have yummy gluten-free desserts. Get the chicken and waffles brunch and the fried chicken dinner.
Great food and friendly staff. Went back a second night we enjoy it so much.
Great outside seating area- I preferred the outdoor space to old inside space! (It helped that it was a perfect day with a very light breeze.)
I made reservations just about 2 months ago. We arrived on time for our 7:00 res - we were seated outside (we were not given a choice). It was windy and cool and unfortunately the heaters could not keep up. We sat for about 10 minutes and then a runner dropped off water. The server arrived at 7:25 and took our drink/app order. Drinks finally arrived at 7:40. Our food was dropped off by a runner around 8:00 or so. My husband called to his back to ask our server for another glass of wine. The food was good. I had chicken and the skin was crispy and tasty. The potatoes and greens were also good. My husband enjoyed his shrimp and grits. Our water glasses and drink glasses were empty. The server came by with the glass of wine after we were both done eating. She asked if I wanted something else, but I declined as I was done with my meal and cold and ready to leave. When we arrived there were about 5-6 tables with guests and then we were the only table outside for about the last 15 minutes of our stay. I honestly have never felt so ignored at a restaurant. With so many choices in Napa I don’t think I will be back even though the food was good. Service really does make or break an experience.
We saw the tell tale red building from the road and knew we had arrived. Not having dined here before, we didnt know what to expect or that the restaurant was attached to a resort/spa/hotel. Upon entering the compound, the high solid walls reminded me of either a construction site or an upscale prison sans guard towers and barbed wire. Its petty, but kinda killed the outside ambiance.
We were greeted by the super friendly and attentive staff and guided to our table. We wanted to eat everything on the menu. Deciding an app and mains was difficult as it all sounded fantastic! Choosing the fried broccolini for an app, the Kobe Burger for my wife and I had the Salmon with black eyed peas. Also ordered a delicious bottle of Grenache. The broccolini was awesome! The mains, equally awesome! Had we known the fried broccolini were that good, one of us should have ordered the fried chicken. The group across from us did and I wanted to distract them and steal a piece! Lol, maybe next time.
Oh ya, the donuts.......!
Great food and service!
Dinner selections were good, plentiful. Service was great!
Our server was great and the biscuits are amazing!!
Decided to eat at Boone Fly for dinner. Service was good and we appreciated the indoor dining accommodations although it was still a bit chilly inside. Three star rating because the fried chicken was either not seasoned or just seasoned with a tiny pinch of salt & pepper. As a southerner I think I expected more but I could understand if seasoned fried chicken is not a thing in California. Collards were decent however. I think I would try this restaurant for brunch the next time I'm in Napa. Seems like brunch is more of their wheel house.
Get the biscuits! We were there for dinner on Easter and could have had the biscuits for our starter, our entree and dessert.
The server was so helpful. The cocktails were great, the gluten free options were plenty and the desserts were amazing. Highly recommended this restaurant. Can’t wait to go again.
We always have wonderful service and a great dinning experience here. The food never disappoints and the cocktails are always fabulous! Love the new outdoor dining.
Our main dish, shrimp and grits was undercooked. The grits were extremely crunchy and tasted like raw rice of all things. The manager and our server said that’s the way their chef ( which we thought wasn’t the correct title) prepared the grits. We’ve never tasted grits so undercooked! We’ve had grits in many locations and none have tasted so bad/undercooked as these!! In addition the service was really slow. Looking for a place for a nice meal? This isn’t the place to dine!!
Loud obnoxious family all playing on devices spoiled our evening. I don’t want to listen to video games or kids arguing at any restaurant, much less at someplace that should have been a nice experience. Table behind us felt that loudly dropping the f word as an adjective for everything gave them street cred. Food was ok, but not memorable. I could overlook the rest if the food was great. Servers were great and were working so hard. Difficult to think of this place as somewhere to return to after experiences at places with similar price points in the same general vicinity that were so much more enjoyable.
The food was delicious and the staff was great - I love the decor and environment :) definitely would recommend!
The space looked thrown together in a paved parking lot. It was cold and some of the space heaters didn’t even work. The food also came to the table lukewarm but the chicken was very tasty. The servers were lovely and attentive.
Came to Boonfly for dinner after celebrating my son's 21st birthday at wineries and vodka tasting (yes we are cool parents for our son to hang out with us) The service upon arrival was on point,, everyone was attentive. Food was phenomenal tasty! Everything we ordered was so delicious. We will coming back for Brunch!!
Seating was in the parking lot and it was cold, service was slow shrimp and grits dry and the hush puppies where under cooked. I think they are better known for there breakfast.
Such wonderful food and service! Everyone is so kind!
Sadly it was a terrible experience and we used to go here often. The server was terrible. No drink orders, we had to ask for drinks. Very inattentive. Needed a new napkin after killing the spider was was on out table, again had to ask for it after a very long wait. The air conditioning was fully blowing. The food was Luke warm at best. No check in to see how our food was or I would have said it was cold. We were celebrating so it was a total downer to have our first indoor dining experience this. Won’t be returning.
We had a lovely dinner in the really cute outdoor dining space. The salmon was wonderful, and my boyfriend loved the gumbo. Our sever was friendly and attentive.
Great ambiance but service was spotty. Server was professional but it was obvious she had too many table to address.
Food was above average
Wine list needs updating. I ordered 2015 Prisoner. I got a 2019
We loved the patio set up. it was very beautiful and kept us warm
I was disappointed and had high hopes. I understand with C-19 outdoor dining is still new to some places. The Boon Fly was cute upon arrival, but with as much wind there is, they need a much better outdoor enclosure. I had read it gets cold, but had no idea a blanket truly would have been beneficial. I should have gone with my gut and NOT ordered the porkchop, but wanted to try it none-the less. The chop was so over cooked I almost choked at one point. The brussel sprout/veg mix was good, but covered more than 2/3 of the plate. $5.00 for one cup of hot tea was a bit excessive. The biscuits for an appetizer were alright, but the fruit compote was something I could have done with out and had honey instead. I was disappointed in my experience, but can say I have been there. I will not be back.
After making a reservation and showing up and receiving a confirmation email they were not open
We went for a special occasion given we could not get reservations at there alternative restaurant farm at Carneros. Definitely a complete step down. I ordered the beef braised short ribs which were very dry over risotto. The other three in our party only ordered pizzas so those are not too hard to mess up. There is nothing extraordinaire about this restaurant I would give it a two out of five overall
Bring your blanket! They have heaters, but it was still quite chilly. I highly recommend the hibiscus margarita. So yummy. We loved the calamari but it’s not a generous quantity given the price. My husband’s kobe beef burger was a success. He thought it was a good value. I got the margherita flatbread and thought it was good.
The chicken was crispy but bland. The hushpuppies were mushy on the inside with no spice or salt. The sauce on the margarita pizza was missing on some parts of the pizza and the cheese was baked into the dough/crust so the pizza looked very sparse and tasted very bland-no seasoning on this pizza. The donuts and chocolate were excellent.
