The Boon Fly Cafe
Named for a Carneros pioneer named Boon Fly, who planted orchards and vineyards in the area in the mid-1800s, our café is a homage to local flavor.
Boon Fly, descended from settlers of the early New England Colonies, was part of the great tradition of wagon trains that brought many of the early families west. He was drawn to the farmlands north of the city and settled outside of Napa on a property that would become known as the Fly District.
We had dinner for 6 following a business meeting and the reviews from all are outstanding. What a find! This restaurant is my new FAVE, the food and the service was excellent.
great evening with amazing service - food excellent
This is such a gem of a restaurant. The ambience, staff and food are all 4 stars.
We had the fettuccine carbonara and cheeseburger. Both delicious!! Service not so great. Bread they served was old and not edible to put it nicely.
this is our go to restaurant on every visit to Napa Valley.
Pork Chop was overcooked and impossible to even cut. They took it back and redid another pork chop but
it was undercooked and raw in the middle. I was told it was medium. No one should eat an undercooked pork chop.
In there defense they did not charge me for the pork chop dinner.
This restaurant is mediocre. With all of the great restaurants close by, I would not waste my time with this one.
Everything about the experience was fantastic - excellent service, delicious food in sizable portions (great value), well-made craft cocktails and a nice ambiance. This was my first visit to The Boon Fly Cafe but it will not be my last. We live locally and this is a treasure.
My leadership team and I visited this eatery while away and the food was amazing! You need to try the fried chicken for sure, but everything was really good. Desserts are nothing to shy away from as well. Make sure that you save room. It's a fun place, casual and the service is really good as well. I would definitely call this an hidden gem.
Went for the fried chicken. It was good, but the batter needs to be better seasoned.. Not enough salt and spices.
After many previous positive experiences at Boonfly, the Thanksgiving dinner was largely disappointing. My entire plate of turkey, stuffing, potatoes/gravy, and brussel sprouts was served room temperature--I sent it back and the 2nd time was only slightly warmer. The stuffing was dry, tasteless, and plain. The brussel sprouts were charred, not in a good way. There was barely any gravy or cranberry sauce, and about a handful of mashed potatoes. Fortunately, the celery root soup was outstanding and served hot. The seasonal little gem salad was great. Overall, the value was poor, not worth $65.00 per person because it was way below fine dining standards.
Worst of all, after being told there was no need to choose our 3rd course (dessert) in advance, we were informed that there was NO pecan pie or pumpkin pie after we finished our meals. So, we ordered the apple crumble and a pear/almond tart. As we finished our desserts, it became obvious that other tables were receiving pies!? The same waitress who served those pies had said NOTHING about it to us--we felt required to ask why the misinformation. She didn't know exactly why, and then proceeded to tell us that pies arrived from the other restaurant at the resort. She didn't seem to think it mattered at all, was very nonchalant about the error. Only because we had brought the snafu to her attention, and after we'd paid our bill, did she manage to offer to send us home with one piece of pie--2 of us had ordered the prix fixe turkey dinner!!
We're not picky diners--this was a kitchen failure. A proper head chef would never allow sub-par food to be served, or run out of pie on Thanksgiving, and then charge $65.00 per person. I have been a restaurant owner, and a caterer--this experience was sad. I hope Boonfly will get it together. It was one of our favorite food escapes.
The food and service was awesome. We had our Thanksgiving dinner there and it was just perfectly cooked and presented.
We went for Thanksgiving. We had a lovely meal and great cocktails. The only disappointment was the apple pie dessert (we should have picked the pecan pie, it was delightful). We will definitely be back next year.
Delicious, casual, great for Breakfast lunch and dinner. Fresh hot donuts, paleo scramble, avocado toast, bacon Bloody Mary! Delicious flat breads, salads, food to share. Friendly staff always welcoming.
Wonderful, hearty, tasteful, delicious dinner.
The food was quite good but one dining companion thought her Ceasar salad was bland ( no garlic or anchovy flavors). Onion rings can't be beat, special flat bread was very tasty, and the filet special delightful!
Cold, air blowing on us, we asked if we could move and they refused despite being half empty. The table we asked to move to remained empty during our meal.
Flatbread/pizza was lovely and delicious!
A 'cup' of mushroom soup was very generous and terrific!
Temperature of the restaurant was breezy cold - we needed to get sweaters until staff responded to request to change AC settings.
The food is the star here. Everything we ate was outstanding. Absolutely the best flat bread I have ever eaten!
If you’re hungry, order the chicken - enough for two people or two meals - and it’s delicious. The flatbreads (pizzas) are all great. There is a sizable selection of options to share with your fellow diners like peppers or Brussels sprouts and the fries are amazing! Check out the dessert menu and share again. It’s all good. This is a fun, casual, refreshing spot that you csn’t help but enjoy.
We sat at the bar. The food was very good. The restaurant is quite noisy. We were happy to be at the bar because it was quieter there than in the restaurant seating
Great cocktails, great food and excellent service.
Casual atmosphere with fantastic food. Amazing fried chicken!!!
Delicious food, spectacular service, stunning location!
Our overall experience in my opinion was good, may not be the same opinion for half of the group who didn't enjoy their food (overcooked veggies/ drenching wet salads). Our server was kind and prompt. They celebrate birthdays here with a lit candle in a stack of mini beignet donuts (a pleasant surprise). I would give this place another try!
Unique food entries- food good but portions very small considering price- especially scallop
Wonderful evening! Able to carry on a conversation all whilst great service & tasty food came & went.
Great food. Fantastic service made for a perfect evening.
We had a great time. Fun place to go and enjoy. Very good food
I had made a note with my Open Table reservation that we were celebrating mom's 70th birthday (she chose the restaurant based on the menu). Nothing special was done. Our server, though nice, was not very attentive and forgot my mom's glass of pinot noir and we had to proactively ask for our condiments and cutting knife for our food. I've been to Boon Fly before with friends just for everyday dining and had a better experience.
We had delicious food in pleasant surroundings with great service - what more can you ask?
The food here was fantastic. It took a while for our server to get to us and they weren’t really busy at all. Once he got to us his recommendations were excellent. The fried chicken was amazing and I was able to switch veggies without any extra cost or fuss. My husband enjoyed a glass of champagne while I enjoyed one of their non alcoholic drinks, which was a nice surprise and offering. Overall it was a nice dining experience.
A few co workers and a kid... grabbing s bite.
The food was just ok. It was incredibly hot inside. The noise level made having a conversation almost impossible.
Overall, really good!! Service great. Friendly, fun environment. Truffle fries were the BEST and the appetizers and main courses were excellent. Only letdown was the cherry clafoutis, which was disappointing (thus reason for 4 stars rather than 5). Expensive, but worth it.
Outstanding food. Super menu. Great drinks. Love it here every time.
Definitely over-hyped. I thought this would be a nice place to take my mom for dinner but although we made reservations, we were limited as to where we were allowed to sit, the food was 'meh', and the ambiance was uninteresting and cold. The actual temperature of the restaurant was also extremely cold with air conditioners placed throughout the room blowing directly down on the tables (when I mentioned this they said it has to be that way for the staff). The wait staff was civil but that's the best I can say. Overall, the entire experience was not what I would expect from a good restaurant in Napa Valley -- definitely not focused on delivering a great customer experience, which is what the restaurant business is all about. Unfortunately, not so for Boon Fly Cafe.
Everything we had was delicious! The fried chicken was excellent. They steak was cooked to perfection.
Wonderful food and wine!
We were the noise level lol I had twin three year olds with me, and very much appreciated the wait staffs patience and understanding of them. Food was wonderful, especially the children’s menu and being able to put pepperoni on the flat bread, big hit with the kids. Will definitely come back.
