The Boon Fly Cafe
Named for a Carneros pioneer named Boon Fly, who planted orchards and vineyards in the area in the mid-1800s, our café is a homage to local flavor.
Boon Fly, descended from settlers of the early New England Colonies, was part of the great tradition of wagon trains that brought many of the early families west. He was drawn to the farmlands north of the city and settled outside of Napa on a property that would become known as the Fly District.

This was my first time out for dinner to a restaurant sense the pandemic started. I was out on a date for dinner with my girlfriend and we both really enjoyed our time. The food was great
And Boonfly did a wonderful job with the table settings outside safely distanced from other people. Our server was really nice and accommodating as well. We highly recommend dinning at Boonfly!
We had such a nice time, we sat outdoors, it was set up so nicely. The service was just as amazing as the food and the drinks. We loved everything about it and can't wait to go back. It was amazing.
We enjoyed dining outdoors at Boon Fly for the first time as we kicked off my birthday weekend celebration. The staff were very accommodating and even brought our dog some water and bacon. The outdoor seating is near the highway so some cat noise but not a problem given the current need to dine outdoors. We also had brunch there the next day and the Eggs Benedict and donuts are incredible!
Great food! Excellent service! Planning our next dinner soon. Thank you for a memorable time.
Due to Covid the outdoor dining is under a tent in the parking lot. They tried to make it look kinda rustic with hay bales and planters with limited success. The food
was good as usual and the service attentive. I had the shrimp and grits which was a solid rendition of this southern dish. They only gave 4prawns which was one short of being able to finish off the grits. For $24 would it hurt to throw in an extra prawn? Hubby had the ribs which were spot on. Wine list is on the high side and the addition of some budget friendly wines would’ve incentivized us to order a bottle instead of settling for a couple of wines by the glass.
Lovely outdoor space to eat but next time I will go after six as that seems like when the flies died down.
Fly's everywhere with the doors open, but with Covid we understood why the doors were open. The gumbo was great, but appetizer size so the price was not worth it.
Service was good and everyone was very nice.
Delicious biscuits, fried chicken, and butterscotch pudding. The greens that came with the chicken were also very good but the mashed potatoes were a bit pasty. My husband said his burger was pretty good. The wine list is efficiently small but has variety. Great, friendly service. We ate outside in an improvised setup in the driveway - didn't really bother us.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we ate outside. The outside area was set up in the parking lot, and there was a slight slope to the table. The view wasn't the greatest (the parking lot and a wooden fence, but the fact that it was a warm evening and our server was great more than made up for the lack of ambience.
Awesome service, fantastic food, very cool location and décoré! Unfortunately this place lives up to their name, gotta do something about the flies!!!
fun place to dine during this Corona nightmare. Great food.
We were very much looking forward to Boon Fly, and love the ambiance and the care they took to make us feel safe during this time of social distancing. Our waiter was chatty and helpful in the beginning, though there was a bit of lag after we said we need a few more minutes so our daughter could order. The entrees came out at different times - first two, then a few minutes later the next one, and the final one at least 10-12 minutes after that. It was a simple flatbread, so not sure how that could have happened since firing it would take even less time than the lag. While I was busy trying to cut up my son's ribs since they weren't that tender, the waiter came by to ask how things were. I had just started my shrimp and grits and didn't give feedback yet, though the first shrimp wasn't good. Later when he asked if I, with my nearly full plate of food, wanted to keep enjoying it I let him know that it wasn't very good - the shrimp were really overcooked and the grits were a little meh. He became very defensive and asked why I hadn't said something earlier ("Didn't I ask you earlier if you liked everything? Why didn't you say something then? Didn't I give you a chance to tell me then?") and made us very uncomfortable. After that his chattiness disappeared and he was extremely cool and just dropped the check. In the end he comp'd the shrimp and grits without telling us, but his reaction was so negative that when combined with the food fail...Boon Fly is now not some place we'll return to. We have had several good brunches there in the past and celebrated our 10th anniversary there, so we were disappointed to have this experience on this night - our first night at a restaurant in months.
Fun and fabulous food!
Danielle always provides excellent service.
Know they made the best of the bad (aka COVID) situation with tables in the parking lot. Prices reasonable and food good. Mashed potatoes could have been hotter.
Great spot, usually known for brunch, but we were able to get dinner resies outdoors. Food was good especially after wine tasting all day. Not fancy, just a good old fashion hearty meal.
Great comfort food. Very personable service. Love this place.
The soup came out cold. The spinach salad was not substantial.
The service was exceptional. Very friendly. Great craft cocktails! Problem is that the entrees that we ordered were less than special. We wouldn’t go back for the food, but it is fun to hang out at.
Fantastic experience! Delicious food and exceptional service, accommodating our every request. Could not ask for more.
Great service with wonderful food. Everything we had was great, especially the chicken boccolini.
Food was not up to previous visit. Margarita Flat bread had NO tomatoes on it, for example. Hopefully just a one-time event. Service was excellent though!
Always a pleasure dinning at BF! Food quality is never in question, & service is A++
Consistently good, modern comfort food. The wine list is surprising limited (and pricey) given the location. Farmhouse feel of the restaurant is nice and relaxed, and the service is always friendly and helpful.
Great service, food and value ! Loved the Brussel Sprouts ! Nice tap beer selection as well. Salmon was excellent ! Very convenient on the way back west from the Napa Valley
Great food, super fun place! We are already looking forward to our next visit. The desserts are amazing! Large portions.
Nice spot at the beginning of Napa valley, with an intimate flair and relaxed ambience. The food is simple but made from 100% locally sourced produces (Mary’s fried chicken in very recommended!), and the wine list is also fairly interesting. The staff is kind and helpful, in general the place is a good value for money.
We just got into Napa for the week and checked in to the Carneros Resort. Tired after a long trip, we decided to check out The Boon Fly Cafe. It was a lovely casual dining experience. The waitress was delightful and the food exceptional! I highly recommend this experience to anyone in the area.
Would recommend for breakfast, not sure about dinner.
We so love this place. The food is amazing, the service is perfect, and the atmosphere is so warm and lovely.
The servers were so nice and attentive. We were being served by 3 servers!
The fried chicken that use to be spicy is now bland. I stayed away from it and instead got the prime rib, which tasted really good. Service was really great.
I haven't been to Boon Fly in years and wasn't disappointed. The fried chicken was cooked to perfection. If you order dessert, the donuts are warm and delicious. We went for Valentine's day dinner and it was a lovely and even romantic venue. We'll be back and won't wait years!
Quite charming, lovely atmosphere and the shrimp and grits were amazing.
The food was amazing, there was more than enough of it, and it was still a casual, comfortable environment. We'll definitely be back.
Wonderful service, good comfort food in a quaint spot.
Had a nice dinner at Book Fly this weekend. The food and service ere a solid four stars to us. Some of the dishes were really good and others a tad out of whack. Fried chicken dinner included a salad and dessert for $37 which is a bargain I’m Napa. Salad was overdressed and had way too much spinach compared to the other stuff. The dinner was good - excellent tart collard greens and tons of really good chicken. The mashed potatoes were just ok and needed some gravy or something.
My husband had the fondue - very runny and not enough polenta fries to cover the cheese. We got bread and it was okay - not very interesting or texturally very tasty. His short ribs and polenta dinner were very good. Rich and flavorful and a big portion. We had donuts for dessert and they were outstanding. With a chocolate dipping sauce. Yum. And y drink - “Worlds Best Coffee” or something like that was a fun cocktail.
Service was friendly and relaxed but I have issues with managers and bus staff walking by dirty plates clearly pushed to the side of the table. For these prices I want my dishes taken when I’m done.
Overall as said a four star experience. Given the hotel rates I’m surprised it wasn’t more streamlined and closer to perfect. They will joy teach a Michelin star if that’s the goal unless they step it up a tad.
Everything was kind of just ok...a bit underwhelming
Any time of day, whether it’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner, delicious food and excellent service are always a constant at Boon Fly. I take my family and friends here all the time. They serve the best doughnuts. I can eat a dozen, and pair it with their fried chicken, oh so good. It’s really a great restaurant but it can get crowded so just hang out by the swings, you’ll get called eventually if you have no reservation.
The food was delicious and plentiful. The service was excellent. I have one complaint, though. My wife and I went there during restaurant week. They offered a 3 course dinner for $38. However, that dinner was restricted. There were no options. If you didn’t like the one appetizer, main course or dessert offered with the restaurant week dinner, you were out of luck - no substitutes allowed. And if you did want that meal, the savings was only $6 off the regular menu price for those 3 offerings. We have never had such a restrictive restaurant week experience and we have attended many restaurant week offerings at many restaurants in the past.
