The Boon Fly Cafe
Named for a Carneros pioneer named Boon Fly, who planted orchards and vineyards in the area in the mid-1800s, our café is a homage to local flavor.
Boon Fly, descended from settlers of the early New England Colonies, was part of the great tradition of wagon trains that brought many of the early families west. He was drawn to the farmlands north of the city and settled outside of Napa on a property that would become known as the Fly District.

Excellent Food and Excellent Service.
The homemade doughnuts are awesome. Exceptional Food.
Food was delicious, especially the fried chicken and service was great.
Very good food. Gumbo, fried chicken, and doughnuts. Are you kidding?
Wonderful! Came here twice yesterday; once for breakfast and again for dinner. Both were great experiences. Breakfast was much busier but nonetheless excellent service and excellent food. For breakfast I had the chicken and waffles, then for dinner had the shrimp and grits (my favorite between the two!) Also had a watermelon mimosa for breakfast which was a treat as well. Coffee was very good. Love this place!
We had dinner here, which came recommended, though the staff seemed listless and slightly silent. Perhaps it was the end of a busy weekend, but the interactions were monosyllabic and uninterested. It was also odd that the music played by the chefs behind their open-air counter was audible throughout the whole restaurant and it clashed horribly with the music piping through the general speakers, intended for the patrons. As I said before, this indicates uninterested management. The biscuits here are amazing and you can come for them alone. The roasted pork chop and the salmon were okay, if slightly underseasoned. So, overall, we expected more. Brunch looks fun -- perhaps meals focused on the biscuits, like many brunch items, are the safe bet.
I made reservations and when we arrived they were peeping the table. Most of the food was delicious but the Mac and cheese was bland. Salmon and fries were fabulous , biscuits with honey butter and preserves were also. The service was crappy and the focus was not worth the wait.
Came for a birthday with some friends, service was great! Flatbreads were delicious and crispy. The rhubarb empanada was incredible, the lemon glaze with it was *chef kiss*.
Will be returning!
Food was excellent but we were a bit surprised when we walked in. The decor is extremely casual but don’t let that fool you. The food is incredible!
Crispy calamari very good flavor, salad was large but could have used more veg and less lettuce. Donuts were delicious.
Our server Tamara was superb but unfortunately I can not say the same for the host. Young lady with shoulder length brown hair.
Not to be confused with the other server who was brunette with blue glasses,( I think) who was also very attentive and polished.
Sister trip. Checked this out for dinner. Because there were 3 of us we had to book 4:45 pm but i feel we could’ve booked later. They just reserved those tables for parties of 2z that’s my only gripe. Otherwise food was good, server was friendly.
Very yummy food (hush puppies, fried chicken, and ohlone salmon flat bread) and great service!
Ordered the Shrimp and Grits, not what I expected. Consistency was off, was expecting more. Had just did a business trip week before to Atlanta and was expecting the same quality, would not recommend. Server kept forgetting to bring condiments, but provided extended service to other customers. Meal went cold, not a memorable experience for a long awaited trip to Napa with sister to celebrate her marriage engagement :-(
For 2 courses during dinner service the food arrived significantly before drinks. Be sure to hold off on ordering until you want the food. Our appetizer was out in less than 5 minutes. I realize it is a cafe but for the price point and location would expect more skilled timing. Shrimp and grits excellent. Fried chicken off and again as it came out so fast hard to believe it was made to order.
Would return but w the knowledge of when and what to order.
They were out of 3 different bottles of wine. Food was meh.
Away for my 40th birthday. Good food, slow service but they seemed short handed for a Friday evening.
Wait staff made errors on 3 ordered items, gumbo was tasteless and bakers dozen donuts only came with 9.
It was super cute and the service was excellent!! The buttermilk biscuits, donuts, and butterscotch pudding were amazing!
Wonderful location, good and service. Wine was delicious but not sure I’d order mixed drinks from the bar again.
Fun vibe and great food! Huge portions.
Went to Boon Fly for a laid back anniversary dinner. Staff was attentive old fashioned ‘made-to-order’ yeast dough donuts, rolled in sugar & cinnamon served hot with a rich chocolate sauce. Coffee was a disappointment, chicory tasting, not the rich coffee bean one would expect given the gourmet selection so readily available in the Bay Area.
We ate at Boon Fly a couple times on our stay in Napa. Once for breakfast and once for dinner. Both times were exceptional. The food and service were great.
This is a perfect meal before or after a visit to Domaine Carneros. Charming spot with a nice variety in the menu.
It was a nice way to spend an anniversary
Boone Fly is THE go to restaurant for us...especially when we want a friendly place to take out of town guests. Tamara, Danielle, Juan, and the entire staff are attentive and always offer great service. Fried chicken, the Kolbe burger, or the salmon are great. Love this place!
Such a great meal. Honestly the Salmin might have been the best I ever ate! Service was first rate. Felt very safe with COVID protocols. I highly recommend, not just for brunch!
Started with the warm buttermilk muffins, which were excellent. Enjoyed a NY steak and Gumbo for main courses. Food was very well prepared. We will definitely go back again.
Long wait, even with a reservation. Thirty min +. Everything else was great. Only the one complaint.
Very good food. We liked the pork chop, fried chicken, and asparagus.
I love their food, service and ambiance. I should’ve remembered our sever’s name because she was outstanding! But everyone there is very friendly and helpful.
I had their burger and it was cooked to order. Their drinks are also incredible and well balanced.
Best Delicious biscuits
I love this place so much that I go every time I'm in the area. They are very accommodating and thoughtful. They even have yummy gluten-free desserts. Get the chicken and waffles brunch and the fried chicken dinner.
Great food and friendly staff. Went back a second night we enjoy it so much.
Great outside seating area- I preferred the outdoor space to old inside space! (It helped that it was a perfect day with a very light breeze.)
I made reservations just about 2 months ago. We arrived on time for our 7:00 res - we were seated outside (we were not given a choice). It was windy and cool and unfortunately the heaters could not keep up. We sat for about 10 minutes and then a runner dropped off water. The server arrived at 7:25 and took our drink/app order. Drinks finally arrived at 7:40. Our food was dropped off by a runner around 8:00 or so. My husband called to his back to ask our server for another glass of wine. The food was good. I had chicken and the skin was crispy and tasty. The potatoes and greens were also good. My husband enjoyed his shrimp and grits. Our water glasses and drink glasses were empty. The server came by with the glass of wine after we were both done eating. She asked if I wanted something else, but I declined as I was done with my meal and cold and ready to leave. When we arrived there were about 5-6 tables with guests and then we were the only table outside for about the last 15 minutes of our stay. I honestly have never felt so ignored at a restaurant. With so many choices in Napa I don’t think I will be back even though the food was good. Service really does make or break an experience.
We saw the tell tale red building from the road and knew we had arrived. Not having dined here before, we didnt know what to expect or that the restaurant was attached to a resort/spa/hotel. Upon entering the compound, the high solid walls reminded me of either a construction site or an upscale prison sans guard towers and barbed wire. Its petty, but kinda killed the outside ambiance.
We were greeted by the super friendly and attentive staff and guided to our table. We wanted to eat everything on the menu. Deciding an app and mains was difficult as it all sounded fantastic! Choosing the fried broccolini for an app, the Kobe Burger for my wife and I had the Salmon with black eyed peas. Also ordered a delicious bottle of Grenache. The broccolini was awesome! The mains, equally awesome! Had we known the fried broccolini were that good, one of us should have ordered the fried chicken. The group across from us did and I wanted to distract them and steal a piece! Lol, maybe next time.
Oh ya, the donuts.......!
Great food and service!
Dinner selections were good, plentiful. Service was great!
Our server was great and the biscuits are amazing!!
Decided to eat at Boone Fly for dinner. Service was good and we appreciated the indoor dining accommodations although it was still a bit chilly inside. Three star rating because the fried chicken was either not seasoned or just seasoned with a tiny pinch of salt & pepper. As a southerner I think I expected more but I could understand if seasoned fried chicken is not a thing in California. Collards were decent however. I think I would try this restaurant for brunch the next time I'm in Napa. Seems like brunch is more of their wheel house.
