The Boiler House and Texas Grill & Wine Garden Ratings and Reviews
Off your game this visit. The cod was not good and all of the dishes including the flank steak was served warm. Our server seemed very occupied for a very slow Tuesday evening. I didn't get his name but his previous work history included the Marble Slab Ice Cream Parlor. Our server took our orders then looked at us and said with all sincerity, "I'm sorry, I have no idea what any of you ordered?". If it has been a joke, I would've rated the service TOP NOTCH! Will go back because I know y'all are capable of better.
I actually ate here twice in one day. First for brunch with a friend and it was amazing. The grits, green chili pork and eggs was delicious. That evening I went back for dinner. The small plates are great for sharing. The meatballs were our favorite. We thought the pierogis and quail poppers were a let down. My only recommendation would be a few lighter sharing plates as the food is heavy and rich. I would've also liked a few lighter vegetable sides to mix in. We tried the Brussels sprouts which were good but also heavy due to the Spanish chorizo.
Service was exceptional. Shawanna was friendly, funny, prompt and knowledgeable. The food was delicious. Highlights were the grilled quail poppers wrapped in bacon and the melt in your mouth pork belly starters. The chef, Jarrod even came over once to see how everything was. Made our night that much more special. Will definitely be back.
This is the first negative experience that I have had at Boiler House. We were there to celebrate a birthday. Seated at a table that was not balanced so it rocked back and forth thru out our meal. Ordered an appetizer, the waitress left without taking drink orders. We had to ask another waiter for silverware and napkins after we had received our appetizer. That afternoon I received an email from Open Table that we had not kept our reservation and the consequences of that! That was the last straw! The food was delicious. It is a shame really! There was no acknowledgement of the birthday until the end (our 4th wait person noticed the presents and wished my friend a Happy Birthday.
We loved the location, ambiance, and service that was provided at our dinner last night. The popcorn and burrata appetizers were quite tasty. We ordered the diver scallops, pork shank, cod and lobster Mac and cheese. With the exception of the Mac and cheese, our meals were cold, slightly warm at best. The potato purée served with the pork shank and diver scallops were cold which was off putting to say the least. The pork shank was cold in the center. The scallops had a beautiful sear but were barely warm and undercooked. We didn’t complain to our server and just ate our meal. After reading some of the reviews, the meal temperature issue is not new to the restaurant. Despite the temperature of the food, the flavors were there and our service was great. We are from out of town and would consider returning if they can make some minor fixes.
Boiler House is a bit of this and a bit of that, all prepared excellently. In some ways, it tries to be all things to many people--steak house, inventive Texas ranch cuisine, small bites and spreads. As a result, it appeals to many tastes, but not those looking for a specialty. We had two tastes, and two mains, all pretty much different than anything we've ever had. Try the Pierogi and the seviche, as recommended by our server, Zander, who was very candid about his recommendations. For mains we had excellent roasted cod and a oxtail gnocchi, both very tasty. The Pearl Brewery location adds to the Boiler House appeal and the house margarita was so excellent, we both had two! Definitely worth a try and good value overall.
Three of us visited on a Monday evening. We were seated in the bar area which was fine. It was not busy at all so the noise level was very good for discussions. Drinks were ordered along with appetizers. The octopus and quail poppers were very tasty. The salads were very large and fresh. The entrees were delivered, two pork shanks and scallops. All were enjoyed. We were not blown away but enjoyed the taste and place.
Loved the ambiance of the Boiler Room in a reclaimed historic building in the Pearl district. We had a table in the bar area. Our brunch entrees were delicious: the burger was juicy, well-seasoned and delicious and the BLT mac and egg was a perfect blend of pasta, bacon and eggs. Wine selection is great and the margarita was spot on. We could see how popular this place is and we're glad we tried it during a visit to San Antonio.
Boiler House was fun and inviting! All our food was really tasty, from the spread to the salad to the scallops and the lobster mac n cheese! Also the popcorn app was an elevated take on a classic. Our server was great-attentive and friendly. The hostess was not as friendly but overall this was a fun place.
We celebrated a friends birthday with Saturday Brunch and although we had reservations for a table we ended up eating at the bar because the wait staff & bartenders were so attentive and fun! Had a wonderful time, food was great, drinks even better and the service was the best!
The food was very good, in variety, appealing preparations & quality. The look & decor were great. The service was horrible. Their was a lack of attention to our table and we watched servers hanging out by the bar while we tried to get someone’s attention. Our entrees were served so soon after our appetizers that we weren’t even close to being halfway through and ended up juggling plates and shifting food to our entree dishes. It’s sad because the food tasted so good but it felt like amateur night. Don’t bring business colleagues here.
Not a Choice Pearl Restaurant. Original Table was a Wobbler! Food was terrible, Steak was ordered Medium Well and it turned out to be very tough, too much fat and grizzle. Oysters were Ok, but way too many shell pieces in Oysters, counted 16 in just 5 Oysters... Also Bar Menu PRINT was so small the staff could not read their own menu., Scotch and Soda ordered tasted Horrible (putrid) . Would definitely NOT return there.
The service was good, but the steak was not anywhere near worth the price. I was expecting the pricey “aged” steak to be much better than it turned out. Flavor was bland and the temperature was cold (as if it had been sitting out a while before making it out to the table). It definitely did not taste like the 42-day dry aged steak that the server advertised. It was cooked correctly (color-wise), but still left much to be desired. My date also had a steak, and expressed disappointment at the lack of seasoning as well.
Sides and appetizers were much better than the steak.
Food and service were excellent. Bar adjacent to all tables and bar type high top seating throughout not the most comfortable seating. Wasn't busy on the Thursday night we were there but could imagine it would get very noisy. Slightly overpriced for the ambiance and comfort. We started with the meatballs which were delicious with a kick. We each had mixed lettuce salad which was a generous size and good. I had the scallops beautiful presentation and delicious. Flank steak, cod and pork were reported to be yummy as well. Overall, enjoyable meal
Boiler House never disappoints. The service and friendliness of the staff always make me and my guest feel good about stepping through their doors. The lunch menu is a great value with some truly spectacular options and we always appreciate the gluten-free options and their willingness to work with our dietary needs and request. All together we are hooked on the place.
The atmosphere was quite nice, food was great, our server forgot our iced teas at the beginning, but the restaurant looked packed so she probably had alot on her plate. The visit was great overall, they let us know before hand of the dishes they could not serve that night and went from there. Definetly recommend for a tasteful dinner if your looking to splurge.
I was very disappointed. The hostess was excellent. The server wasn't attentive. I love this place and come quite often. I was trying to surprise a friend and the food this time for horrible! The drinks were even horrible. This is the first time i have been disappointed. My meat was very dry and my collegue's steak was order medium well and it was medium. She didn't even eat it. I spent over $100 and this was a horrible experience. I don't think i will be coming back again. I usually bring a lot of outer town guest here, but i don't see that happening again. The server didn't even offer a discount!
Don’t know what’s changed but the food this visit was not as good as in the past. My husband’s food came out cold and hard. Had to send it back. When a new dish was brought it had gone from 5 scallops to a measly 3. My oxtail gnocchi, which I had raced about, was just OK. Not the creamy dish I had only a month before. Our server was great but great service doesn’t make up for pricey but poor quality food. Won’t be back☹️
Good server. Bland food (went with server and hostess recommendations).
Note of concern: Asked for better table upstairs on a Monday at 6pm with reservation. Reply was they had 2 large groups upstairs...went upstairs 15 minutes later and there were empty tables. Not good.
