The staff was very attentive and the food excellent but they unfortunately messed up our order which was not caught by the chef or our server, so 3 of the 4 people in our party got their food and I had to wait 20 minutes for my main course. The chef sent out an order of asparagus as an apology but really they should not have charged for that one entree. Also, don't order the 'assortment of cheeses' as for $15 there MAY have been literally an ounce of cheese. The pieces were so small it was laughable. Otherwise it was very good.
Been to the CIA in the past and the experience and food were much better.
Amazing service as well as amazing food. Well worth the money you pay.
Our meal at Bocuse was very enjoyable. The highlights were the exquisite tangerine brown butter sauce and the ice cream dessert made tableside and accompanies by a warm lemon waffle and the best vanilla pot de crème I've ever had. The student waitstaff were so helpful and attentive.
This is an excellent restaurant where the final year students try their expertise at making dishes that are both flavourful as well as great looking. The wait persons, who are students, were charming, helpful, and knowledgable
I always enjoy going to the Bocuse restaurant. Even if the drive to NYC is long!
Our visit to the Bocuse Restaurant and the Culinary Institute was wonderful! The food was excellent and the service was superb. After lunch we explored the beautiful campus. It was a totally great experience.
This was our first time visiting The Bocuse Restaurant at the CIA. We work in the city but come to the Hudson Valley at the weekends. In the past we have left it to late to secure a reservation but on this occasion we successfully planned in advance. The restaurant is elegant and the food was truly excellent - first class in fact. The service is warm, earnest and professional. Remember these people are still training so there might be a few nerves but the experience is highly enjoyable and not in the least uncomfortable. Be aware that the prices reflect the quality. The midweek prix fixe is probably a more wallet friendly option. There is no dress code but I think it warrants the effort of dressing for the occasion. These aspiring young professionals are really making an effort so at least meet them half way!
In short, a memorable and enjoyable experience- we will return for sure.
My husband and I went to Bocuse for my birthday. It was the first day the students were serving (though they had already been through Katarina). Food was amazing!! I had the green nettle soup and the roasted duck. My husband had a charcuterie platter and squid ravioli. The students were very attentive. They were in training—we had some missing utensils and glasses—but they were rectified immediately. I can’t wait to go back! My favorite restaurant at the CIA!
Wonderful vibe as always and the young aspiring chefs are an inspiration.
As a graduate I expected way better service aside from if it was day one of class. It took us 10 minutes to find out server just to get some water when we first entered. All the students were standing near the mircos stands and with their backs toward the guest. When taking the food order the server did not repeat back our order. So when we received our apps and bevs they were all wrong expect 1 someone at my table waited 10 minutes to receive a cheese plate and another 5 minutes after their cheese plate came out to get their wine. We didn’t offered bread until I asked for if right as the apps came out due to the lack of servers not being on the floor. When it came to clearing the table they were asking my family to hand them the extra silverware that wasn’t being used when it was in arms length of the server getting it. When it came to my entree the plate was cold, and the veg was lukewarm. Lastly when it came time for serving the food they only brought 2 entrees out of 5 to the wrong seat number. As a CIA student I was disappointed. After telling my family about all the amazing other dining experiences had here, i felt let down. After talking highly about the restaurant to my family they were not impressed with anything at all. It was not the way I wanted my last meal to be at on campus.
It was a very enjoyable evening at the Bocuse celebrating a birthday with family members. The food presentations were picture perfect and equally delicious. The staff were pleasant, courteous and very sensitive and accommodating to dietary restrictions. Would definitely recommend the Bocuse to friends and family to enjoy a very pleasant dining experience.
What an experience to watch our future chefs work the room. It was nice to have the interaction of our servers and have them tell us about the choices we made and the explanation of items on the menu. We had a lovely afternoon and the grounds are just beautiful to walk after a really awesome meal and drinks. Thank you for this wonderful experience and good luck to you all.
Amazing food and ambience! We were there with our son for his accepted student day on Friday 4/6. We wanted to celebrate his decision and Bocuse was a great choice! Justin is so excited to be joining the student body! Thank you for a great experience!
The students were extremely professional and attentive, it made for a really special experience. The presentation of food was also beautiful!
Went with my family for a quiet dinner. We were one of the first to arrive and were seated quickly. The wait staff were great - a couple were a little hesitant, but that is to be expected. The food was generally a high standard - the only quibble was the sauce for the rabbit leg which had an odd flavor, although not off-putting. The flavors were balanced and not over powering. The fixed price was definitely good value. Our youngest had complementary pasta, which was very well received.
Food (choice, quality, portions) was excellent. The young (student) wait staff was very professional, well informed, attentive and thoroughly delightful!
This is outstanding and well managed place. I love dining at this every time I visit. Keep up the good work.
My family loves The Culinary, especially The Bocuse Restaurant. The food choices are always interesting and visually beautiful, the service is exceptional and of course the whole experience is exciting.
We have eaten at Bocuse several times and have consistently had delicious food and wonderful service. It's definitely worth the drive if you're not local to the area.
For the price we paid, this was a very disappointing experience. Our appetizers were wonderful but both of our entrees were barely lukewarm and tasteless. We will not return to this restaurant.
Wonderful flavors brought together creatively. Service was great and we enjoyed meeting the students working at the restaurant. Vaut le voyage!!
The Bocuse is a French restaurant at the Culinary Institute of America and its entire staff from front of house to kitchen are students. The French cuisine is contemporary, meaning the edges blur into other cuisines and the offerings include vegetarian as well as meat/seafood/poultry. Our group of four ate lunch during Restaurant Week, a prix fixe bargain. The food itself was good, not great. Ingredients are first-rate and cooking is done perfectly to order but the many little toppings, sauces and/or clever presentations did not always hang together -- multiple enhancements tended to cancel each other out resulting in muted rather than dynamic flavors.
The service is conscientious and charming, partly because you have very earnest students learning to execute for a first-class environment. The room is a bit oddly done, giving a traditional room some aggressively modern touches (e.g, chandeliers out of "Metropolis"). I'm glad we were there during the day when the many windows bring in natural light. All in all, a nice dining experience though I'm not sure I'd feel the same way at regular (full) prices.
Celebrating my mother’s 80th birthday - the Bocuse seemed to be the perfect choice since she loves French cuisine. The food was “pretty” more than satisfying as expected. No one in our party of 3 were overly impressed with our meals.
My greatest disappointment was the fact that we were celebrating a birthday... this was discussed when making the reservation, when confirming the reservation and... as we checked in. After desserts were served... the waiter put a plate with a cookie and a piece of nougat beside my mom. ... with a candle stuck in the nougat... the candle was not lit?! What was the point?! Sorry to put you out!! Wow! Incredibly disappointed. Note to self... eat here when on a diet and not celebrating anything!
The Bocuse, without question, is my least favorite of the dining offerings at the CIA.
Our hamburgers were extraordinary. Absolutely delicious. Our server, Ally, was most charming and engaging. She went out of her way to accommodate us. Very excellent waitress!!!!
Overall excellent. We just love it. Presentations are amazing.
Loved it. Coming again next week
Food, presentation and service all excellent - all by students tremendously enthusiastic about the beginning of their careers - we had a memorable experience
Exceptional food and service,as usual! Thank you for the consistency
Great food, amazing ambiance, service was great. Highly recommend
We have been to the CIA several times, but this was our first meal at Bocuse. Everything was perfect from the food to the staff. The entire staff was very knowledgeable and professional and it was a memorable experience. We look forward to returning again.
We really enjoyed our visit to Bocuse. It’s always so interesting to hear of the students’ experience. Dining during restaurant week improved the value, though prices were average for the area. We especially liked the fun service “extras” such as cocktails (the smoky manhattan) and ice cream prepared table side. Both were a nice touch. We also loved that the 17% added service charge gets repurposed for student scholarships. A nice visit all around though a tad noisy, even for a late seating.
Great food! Creative and yummmy. Great treat anytime, particularly restaurant week.
A visit to the Culinary Institute is a unique dining experience. The food is exceptional, but what make it so special is the opportunity to interact with the students who are enthusiastic, knowledgeable and professional. This visit was to Bocuse which is my favorite as I love French cuisine.
Our visit to The Bocuse was a get together of four female friends. It was a first visit to this restaurant for all of us and a first visit to CIA campus for three of us. Overall just an amazing experience that we all enjoyed tremendously. The food was exceptional and the service was outstanding. It was such a unique experience of sharing an incredible meal in a beautiful place. We took advantage of the Hudson Valley Restaurant Week for a three course meal and certainly made precious memories. If you're looking for a place to create an unforgettable bonding experience with someone, look no further.
Wonderful !!!!!!!! Dinner was excellent, service was spectacular .
The food is simply outstanding. No words to describe. The dessert is fantastic ! A must go !
This was a get together lunch with two of my good friends from college many years ago. We are all lovers of good food and were definitely not disappointed with our experience. We each chose something different so we could taste each other's meals. We hated to see the meal come to an end. Everything was delicious and the students who served us were very knowledgeable and very friendly and helpful. I can't say enough about the whole experience!
Dined at Bocuse several times before, but first time during restaurant week. It was a pleasure to have a varied menu to chose from, which is not always the case during HVRW at other venues.
Food was excellent, but the only comment was that the servers could have been a bit more pleasant.
We are regular customers of Bocuse and always have superb meals there. However, this time it was Restaurant week and was very disappointing. The service was, as usual, wonderful but the food, starting with a surprisingly bland menu, was not up to their usual standards. My salmon was terribly overcooked; appetizer was tasteless. We had taken friends who had never dined there and I had raved about the special table side ice cream. Well, they had the ice cream listed, but we were told it was not for Restaurant Week. Why bother to put it on the menu? Very annoying.
Of course we will return, but never again for Restaurant Week.
