The food was overpriced for the portion I received (scampi). It was 6 pieces of scampi on a small portion of chips. The floor was sticky and we sat at plastic tables and chairs. It was like eating overpriced food in a cafe. The wine glass was cheap and scratched from being in the dishwasher so often. I was very disappointed for the price I paid.
Had a lovely evening meal here with family. The service was good, the food was excellent value for money. Very fresh and the staff were very knowledgeable.
Friendly and attentive staff at The Boathouse. The food was excellent and perfectly cooked. The fresh sardines had an excellent flame grilled touch which was lovely. Shared a Shack Attack scallop platter between two and couldn't finish it. Every scallop perfectly cooked. Great wine too and only £19 a bottle. I would definitely recommend this restaurant following my first visit and will be returning. I would say however that it does need some décor to create a greater ambiance and more interesting environment i.e. plants, statues, table dressings etc to brighten up the place and make it more interesting. Loved it though and stayed for a fair few hours. Well done !
Lovely setting for a meal, reasonably priced
Good food, good service, nice views, nice atmosphere
Incredibly friendly, best service we have received in a long time! Pleasure to visit, will be returning. Food was delicious
We had the seafood platter to share. The scallops were lovely, so were the chilli king prawns. Unfortunately all the breaded/battered items were very dry, over cooked and hard. The sardines were inedible. The dish came with bread and butter and coleslaw which didn’t arrive until we’d almost finished. I asked for a pint of lime and soda and was brought a half although charged for a pint. The serving staff were lovely but overall the food wasn’t good.
Although the seafood was overall good quality, it was poorly cooked and presented. Staff were too young and inexperienced to cope. Ambience was very poor. We hope we just caught them on an ‘off evening’ after a busy day.
We love this restaurant! The service was exemplary. There was an issue with our order going through but the excellent way it was handled by our server meant that it didn’t ruin our experience.
We booked a table during late afternoon after being here for coffee. The service was quick and efficient food was amazing a real taste of the sea. We both had scollops, cooked to perfection followed by langoustine for my husband and mussels fir me. I would recommend anyone to visit
Sadly the Boathouse Restaurant was disappointing, no daily catch. Had Fish and Chips, the fish batter was very greasy
Food was excellent and the staff were lovely. Even on a grey rainy night the view was great and the place felt light and inviting. Will definitely be heading back again.
Food superb We had starters and mains only as service was so slow we gave up on sweets and coffe
Lovely setting overlooking the Marina.
Music so loud we couldn't chat which made the long waits worse.
Would go again to see if it wss just a one off but dont feel I could recommend it after first experience
Second time I've taken visitors to eat here in the last month. Bothtimes were very disappointing On both occasions they were out of fresh fish, their speciality & what I guess most people go there for! After all it is owned & run by a fisherman with his own fishing boat business...right on the waters edge where the boats full of fish dock. Also one of the largest fish markets in the country is two minutes walk away
The first time I forgave them as we visited one day after the National Firwork Competition & they had run out of fish because they had been so busy.
Last night however there was no excuse for no fish at 6.30pm
I won't take visitors there again even though it is a lovely restaurant. Without boat fish dishes the menue is very limited .....although the scallops were very good starters
Lovely location with excellent staff.
Meghan & Izzy were fun, efficient & provided an excellent service.
The food was fresh, good value, cooked & presented very well & filling.
We felt that the food we ordered along with the accompanying drinks was excellent value for money, the only slight criticism we could make was that there were no specials available (which was due to the restaurants own fishing boat being out of action due to being serviced).
In summary, excellent location offering a good choice of food with great staff & we would definitely return.
Good food, excellent service, great position overlooking the frenetic activity on the Waterfront.
An ideal part of a visit to Plymouth's Hoe and Barbican areas
Great service by all staff. Food was excellent! Well done to all.
Very good food and drinks. Very friendly and efficient service. I recommend this place for a nice meal and drink.
Freshly caught fish always tasty. Friendly staff, pleasant surroundings. Dog friendly which is a bonus for people out for the day.
Food, wine and location excellent. Had shack attack sharing plate of scallops cooked perfectly with tasty accompaniment. Service mainly good, could be more efficient. Booking in advance suggested. Would definitely go again and recommend to friends.
We love the boat house, on this occasion they were short of staff so things took a little bit longer. The staff were still very attentive and friendly and it didn't distract from a nice lunch on the Barbican watching the world go by.
Will be back on the next sunny weekend.
Food was really good, service was outstanding; everyone so friendly and helpful.
Looking forward to returning
Really good grub - great value. Great service and great local atmosphere. Not too fancy and very very friendly. It’s a must!
We have been to the boat house a few times and always been pleased.
However our visit last evening was not good at all.
The waiting staff were pleasant, but that is the only positive I can give except for location which is good.
Our food was extremely poor, badly cooked, under seasoned and worst of all, cold! Nobody likes a cold scallop!
Bread was stale, green bean salad had no green beans it was just cucumber and salad leaves. Even the chips were awful which is hard to accomplish!
We did inform the waitress of our dissatisfaction to which she informed us that it’s dependent on which chef is on as to how good the food is! After spending almost £90 on a dinner that we didn’t finish as it was so bad, I can no longer recommend this restaurant as we felt very let down this evening. It was busy ish but certainly not at capacity. Such a shame but we will not return. Have emailed the restaurant but am still waiting for a response.
Lovely, fresh food, good price, great location and fantastic place. Would deffinitely come back here.
Our daughter was taken faint at end of meal and they were extremely helpful
Stunning location, great service and out strong food (especially the shellfish)
This is the 2nd time we've had breakfast here and the food is delicious, have recommended to many friends/family. The only improvement that could be made would be the speed of service, the food takes a fair while, but thats ok as its worth the wait and a nice place to sit and watch people go by, however, the drinks orders are also quite slow.
We had a very enjoyable time at the Boathouse for lunch. We liked the open roof, and the venue is light and airy, with a lovely view of the harbour.
The food was very good. It's a very relaxing place to be.
We were served by a delightful young lady, but she seemed to be extremely busy, so we had to wait some time for our drinks and meals and there was a long delay for the bill. Also the music was rather intrusive, but apart from that we were very pleased.
Hi fish was really fresh and good chips a bit dry and reheated. Portion small for price
A nice meal at the harbourside in Plymouth. Booked in advance and all was great. No complaints food very nice arrived hot - waitress very good and very friendly. Would recommend.
Cuttlefish calamari was rancid, no crisp to the light dusting of flour and relatively chewy and flavourless, therefore overpriced at £9.
Pop corn prawns were tasty but frozen which is a shame for the price.
The scallops with black pudding…scallops were nice and fresh but small more like queenies the failure of this dish was the presentation. A mound of smashed black pudding which looked shocking just haphazardly slapped on the dish, there are so many better ways to present this dish and at £11 could be better value.
Mackerel pate was lovely, but needs more bread as the 2 slices provided are not enough for the amount of oats. Either less late or more bread.
Service was friendly and attentive, didn’t say anything at the time as all quite young and very friendly so didn’t want to be difficult.
Overal a nice place but need to rethink their menu, prices and presentation if they want to keep the returning Plymouth custom and not just hit the tourists. Their other establishments are much better for example the hook and line.
Probably wouldn’t return.
We ordered our meal and over an hour and it still was not ready - we had a schedule to keep to so had to leave hungry :-(
Love this place
I had a lovely evening at the boathouse it was just a shame that for a seafood restaurant there were not too many options of actual pieces of fish and most of the dishes were out of stock same with the wines.
The ambiance was ok, felt a bit more like a casual/lunch restaurant that I expected but the staff were super friendly and great service!! And the food did taste really lovely!!
Lovely service, lovely food but but sadly no fish of the day
The steak burger was basic and paper inside the chip basket was scrunched so only got a few chips on top that made it look full at first glance. My burger was dripping in fat that slide off the slate “plate” it was on and onto my lap. My husband had the seafood linguini and all the shells had been smashed and it had pieces of shell in most mouthfuls and the sauce was runny. Good selection of wine, good service and great location shame about the food as it was quite pricey for what it was.
Not rushed, good atmosphere with friendly staff and good food
Great service and lovely dessert.
We have been trying a restaurant a week in Plymouth and this is our favourite so far!! The squid was beautiful, the mussels were fresh and the service was friendly and warm. Thank you!
