We have been coming periodically to the Boat House at Sunday Park on Sundays for many years. The biew out across the lake is beautiful and serene, but OUR primary attraction is the Sunday morning ballads of George Turman! He always begins to play "You've Got a Friend" when we walk in....a song he learned 34 years ago especially so he could sing it at our wedding!
Food was good, a bit over priced. Service was good until time to pay & leave. After dropping off the check & picking up desert dishes, waitress never came back. We waited for more than 25 minutes. Finally had to go to the bar & had bartender take care of the check. As we were walking out, I did see our waitress wal over to the table we were sitting at. Don't really know what that was all about. This was not our first visit.
Good food, good service and great environment. Great place to have a great meal along the waterfront and reasonably priced. Definitely one of the favorite restaurants in RVA region!
This was a family event celebrating a birthday. We enjoyed several different entrees including filet, chicken, crab cakes and salmon and they were all very good. The wine selections are adequate but the deserts were limited. Excellent service. Beautiful view.
Awesome experience and view
Reservations were for 7:30 we were not seated until after 8 after checking back with
Hostess. Extremely loud really could not understand what waitress was saying. Waitress
was good checking in but that did not last.
Food was good but nothing exceptional.
I usually love the food and service at Boathouse Sunday Park but this time it took forever for our food to come out and the service was just ok when it is usually stellar. Our lobster on a half shell didn’t have shell and was extremely small. We were one of 2 tables upstairs and had to ask repeatedly for drink refills. Hopefully next time will be better
Had a reservation at 7:15, was finally seated at 8:15 INSIDE after requesting outside seating for a birthday occasion. Food was OK, nothing fabulous for the price. Would recommend going back on a weekday, avoiding the weekend volume of people because the Boathouse cannot commit to holding their reservation times when they are busy. We were so disappointed.
Great scenery near sunset. Food just OK. Fried shrimp were soggy with no crispness. Service was poor. Restaurant was very busy as it was Saturday night, along with a lot of prom guests. But this should have been known and the restaurant should have staffed up accordingly.
My friends and I had a great time dining at the Boathouse before prom. Good service and great food! Arrive early even if you have a reservation because it can get crowded especially if there's an event like prom happening that night!
We do enjoy the Boathouse group. Sunday park with the beautiful lake view Is our go to place for the summer. The food, service and fellow diners are always first class.
One of the entrees that they served us was incorrect...similar to what was ordered, but clearly not what we had originally requested (by showing the waiter the item on the menu as it was being ordered). The waiter & his manager worked to correct the mistake quickly, and offered not charge us for that particular dish, which was more than satisfactory to us.
Waited 45 mins for a table after our reservation time.☹️
After making this reservation, I called back to request a "window" seat. I was told it wasn't guaranteed, or could be 1 "table/aisle" over from the window. When arrived, I asked again at the hostess station, and was told no window seat available, have several large parties, but we have a "comfortable booth". There wasn't even 1 person sitting in the BRIGHT WINDOW-FILLED EMPTY TABLED ROOM. Once we sat at the VERY DARK, lamp light on the the table booth all the way in the very back, I asked the person that escorted us, "are you sure we can't sit somewhere near a window? It's so dark here", and she assured me just as the other person did, "we have many large parties and don't have any window seats available." I wish I had taken a picture. I told my husband that I thought we should leave and go to another restaurant, but we hadn't ever been to the Boathouse, had come highly recommended, so after about 5 minutes going back and forth, we decided to stay. Even after ordering drinks, I once again re-addressed us leaving because the ambiance was so dark - and we wouldn't have come had we known about our seats. We had an issue with my husband's meal, but the manager very nicely took care of it...my salmon was the best I'd ever had from any other restaurant, but the "experience" was so dull and depressing and dark. My 5 year old son was so excited on our way there, about going to the "BOAT-house" because we could pretend we were on a boat on the water...and had to explain all of that away once we got our seats. We spent time on deck after the meal, and my husband told the manager about seating problem, and she reiterated that it shouldn't have happened and that there were definitely seats available. I feel we should get some sort of complimentary % off or coupon to come back...the "EXPERIENCE AND AMBIANCE" is as much a part of the meal as the taste of the food. I hope we are given an opportunity to come back so we don't feel cheated from last night's experience.
I had made reservations for my wife’s 50th birthday and I specifically mentioned it in the request via open table and also when they called to confirm from the Boathouse. To my surprise, and disappointment, I got the worst table, in the back of the restaurant, no view at all, nobody in the restaurant staff at knowledged my wife’s birthday. Embarrassing and disheartening date.
Arrived @ 745 for reservation, not seated till 8 20. Guess large party was sitting where they wanted to sit us. Manager comped us 2 appetizers, but knowing wait would have went somewhere else. I suspect people probably shifted inside also because of temp drop. But food is not extraordinary, can get same @ bonefish for less money. We go out to eat for experience, you can cook @ home much cheaper. and it just ruined the night.
Great food, great service, great view, great ambiance. First visit, it won’t be last!
Great food and beautiful view of the lake. Was our first time there for brunch. Chairs alittle unstable for me all 260lbs. Need smaller table for 6 and under. Overall 4.5 stars out of 5. Will visit again but in restaurant not outside pavilion.
Easter brunch - atmosphere was great but buffet price was expensive for food available.
Neighborhood gem and the best view around. We attended for the Easter Brunch. The food was delicious and plentiful. They had some great signature breakfast cocktails for this event and live music. Service was pretty good ( remember was a buffet) we only needed drink refills and clearing way plates. Our waiter was very nice, but I could not hear him; nor could my adult children. We normally have a pleasant experience at this restaurant. I have to admit, we frequently more during the Spring and Fall months due to the great patio seating.
We had a wonderful evening at the Boathouse. Great food, exceptional service and beautiful atmosphere.
Our fourth visit to the Boathouse since my wife and I moved to the Richmond area. We've never been disappointed by the food and the service. When we plan an evening out for dinner, the Boathouse in one of the area restaurants on our short list for reservations. Highly recommended!!
Lovely experience! Great atmosphere and the view was lovely! I was not a huge fan of the risotto that I ordered. But it was one of the few things I could eat as I’m vegetarian. My friends thoroughly enjoyed their meals!
I will go back if not just for the view!
Celebrating a night out with family
First, I was a little disappointed that there wasn't a lunch/dinner menu available. The brunch was delicious, and I'm glad my Mom could get a burger, but I was hoping to get something else.
We loved the pork belly with the beat puree. We have never tried pork belly, and it was a pleasant surprise. Second, I think there was live music, it sounded live, but it was awful. The voice was monotone, and was more fit for a bar scene. Some light background music would have been appropriate. I would recommend songs by Shawn Colvin, and in the contemporary folk genre.
Overall very nice brunch. Great location. Wish they had gravy for the biscuits in the buffet.
SUPERB service, food, seating/table (gosh we love the view of the lake!)! Even the coffee was world class good!
Had a delicious dinner overlooking the reservoir; very picturesque.
Wonderful experience.
Our server, Elena, was attentive, courteous, made excellent suggestions, and was an overall amazing host.
I went to the Boathouse at Sunday Park to celebrate my birthday. This was my first visit and I was charmed by its scenic views. We arrived in time to watch the sunset over the river. The waiter was friendly and went out of his way to make the evening festive. I had the scallops and they were divine. Very romantic.
Ok, so we've eaten at the Boathouse at Sunday Park several times. This was the worst visit ever for us. It was a solid half a star visit. But, wait.. why did I give it 5 stars? Let me explain...
We had a party of 9 for brunch for my daughter's 11th birthday. Our drink orders were messed up. 4 out of 9 people got the wrong drinks. Our food orders were messed up. My teenage son ordered the bread pudding French toast and it came out about 15 minutes after everyone else got their food. The birthday girl got an omelet but ordered a waffle, I ordered steak and eggs, steak was WAY over cooked, eggs were undercooked, 2 people order crab cakes benedict, but the eggs weren't poached, they were hard boiled, all 4 kids were supposed to get homefries but got French fries with their French toast, when we said something, the server said he would fix it. Well, they brought out MORE FRIES.. We had 6 of those little baskets of fries on our table.
So, after this bad attempt at a birthday brunch, we asked to speak to a manager. This is how the Boathouse went from a half star review to a solid 5 stars.
The manager came over, LISTENED to our issues, SINCERELY apologized, and offered to remake food that was wrong. We turned down the offer as now it was over an hour into our visit and we had someplace to be. She did insist we get desserts. She personally delivered the birthday girls dessert with a candle and all, comped all the desserts, and again stopped us on the way out to say sorry.
Notice NOT ONE TIME did she make excuses for the issues we had. As guests there, she knew the reasons there were issues wasn't our problem so she didn't make excuses. She apologized, fixed the issues, made it right, and invited us back and assured us that we wouldn't have that experience again. Excellent job to the general manager of this location! We WILL be back!
My mother passed away and I did not feel like cooking. So we went to the Boathouse and had a delicious meal. The lobster and salmon were terrific! The chocolate box martini was the bomb as well! Highly recommend!
The food was delicious and the views of the water/sunset were beautiful. It was a little noisy, though we could usually hear each other. It did get noisier when a large party arrived. Menu emphasizes seafood which is to be expected with a restaurant named The Boathouse. Will definitely go back.
We go to all the boathouse locations and usually have good results. On this occasion we ordered the grilled seafood platter. The price was very high for what we got. It was very disappointing. The crab cake we received was all filler. You advertise hardly no fillers.
Rocketts Landing is better ,the service is
much better
Everyone was very happy with their meals. 2 sirloin steaks, mail, and salmon
The Boathouse at Sunday Park continues to be one of our favorite places to meet friends for wine tasting, dinner, celebrating special occasions (our son proposed to his wife there and BOTH our children had their wedding rehearsal dinners upstairs) or a quiet Sunday brunch on the deck in the summer! Attached is a photo I shared on Instagram from a Sunday brunch last summer... always sad to see it go and look forward to the upcoming season!
Michael is a great sommelier and always puts together a great wine list for first-Wednesday wine tastings, Deana makes a great cocktail, and we love being able to stay for dinner to catch up with friends.
After 16 years I can say that we continue to visit and enjoy the food, the atmosphere and the fun! Highly recommended!
It was a lovely restaurant, the food was delicious and the staff was super attentive.
I came here to meet up with some friends from high school. The food was amazing, and the view was lovely!.
Excellent food as always. The Mgr. came to our table and congratulated us on our anniversary. She told us our desert would be comped. When the bill came we were billed for it anyway.
