We enjoyed our visit to Boathouse Restaurant. The waiter we had was very nice and completely helpful. The food was on time and very appreciated. My only issue is that it a little pricey.
I think that the menu items including the drinks are expensive enough that you should be able to supply disposable menus. It wasn’t very relaxing or enjoyable ordering and paying for drinks and the meal on our phones.
The service was excellent. Service was attentive and super polite. The phone ordering a bit tricky. They verbally tell you a 20% tip is added, but then that option also comes up when using the online tools. They need to clarify better. The only food that was served hot was our zucchini appetizer. Hubby's seafood Mac and cheese was delish, but crusty from being under the warming light. My lobster was lukewarm, butter lukewarm and I had to ask for various tools to extract the meat and lemon. I ordered a side of sautéed Brussels sprouts with pecans and sweet potatoes, but received sautéed sprouts in butter. When dropping $160, I expect the food to be much better coordinated and presented. We were so hungry we didn't want to wait for recooks.
We had a great experience. No complaints! Definitely will come back.
Food was excellent!! Could give a little more food for the money. Great atmosphere.
The food was gross. The mussels were not flavored food was tasteless
Great service and food
Holding the waiter was very good.
Overall I enjoyed everything
We had a very good evening and look forward to visiting again soon.
I hadn't dined at this location in a while and took two clients to lunch. The food and the ambience was better than I remembered and the guests really enjoyed it.
It is awkward to take customers there right now as each person either has to order on their own phone OR one person(me) basically took each person's order at the table OR I guess I could have passed my phone around to each person. I understand what they are trying to accomplish but if they want to entertain business meals then a better system must be explored. Maybe selecting a table number so that one person can still pay while maintaining the social distancing attemp.
Like I mentioned before the food was great. We had crab dip, cheeseburger, crap cakes, salmon, hush puppies also. Definetely good eating!!
This is my go to spot, the food is delicious each time I come. Amazingly delicious
The food was great and service was too. Nice place to meet friends of family.
You have to order from your phone and pay for it before you get your food. They sneak in a 20% tip as a "service fee" and then trick you into leaving an additional tip. All for service you didn't receive. I will not be going back during the fake pandemic, or after.
We used to get sparkling Rosie & liked the blueberry salad neither of which is available.
Not a fan of ordering and paying online. Had to get help twice and Google wanted card # again on one screen. Too much work. Don't think we will return even though food was great.
Very good food, well worth the price. We will definitely be going back.
We drove ALL the way from Virginia Beach (2 hours away) to meet some friends in Richmond & to eat here based on the menu they had online Only to find out when we get there, only about 25% of the items are available. We all wanted to order the Lobster Roll they had featured on their website BUT that along with countless other seafood items are NO Longer being offered. And on top of all that - you have to order everything and pay for everything from their App while sitting there! We Will NEVER Go Back Here! You would think they could have the professional courtesy to keep their website up to date! Summary: I drove for 2 hours to order an overpriced cheeseburger in a Seafood Restaurant.
Beautiful, modern decor. Good food. We had excellent service! Little pricey.
We used to love the boat house. They changed the menu, no longer serve sushi, and with the new dining restrictions we have to order everything ourselves and pay for each thing as we order it off the phone. There is no interaction with the waiter other than to have them bring food from the kitchen to the table. It had a vibe of a cafeteria, not a nice restaurant. We were really disappointed. That being said, the zucchini chips and hush puppy appetizers we had and the cocktails we ordered we’re all good. But for a nice night out, it no longer delivers. The waiter was very nice, and personable, but really didn’t serve much purpose at all.
The Boathouse is lovely but they need to provide actual menus and allow the waiters to take your order and accept your payment (cash perhaps?). Everyone else is doing this again.
Anniversary dinner. Had a great booth in the back. Food was great. A little strange ordering and paying online. That being said, our server was still very helpful and knowledgeable. The only thing missing was the bread for the table!
Food was average and grossly overpriced. I understand the constraints of Governor Blackface's lockdown, but I do not appreciate an automatic 20% surcharge in the face of very little service. We ordered from our phones and had to work out our own questions about the menu.
I do not blame the servers; they are doing the very best they can, and I appreciate the fact that you are even open. With such wide customer spacing, I'm surprised you can even stay in business, so our experience is not a deal-breaker, but the overall experience was underwhelming.
Usually rate this restaurant higher but the "Covid time" plan for ordering food was bizarre. Had to order ourselves using a bar code on our cell phones, and each course ordered and paid for individually or else everything would show up at once. For that reason did not see much of our server despite the 20% gratuity being automatically added to our check. If you wanted to vary from the menu (our daughter has food allergies and could not eat the sides that came with her entree), it was a big deal since the server had to be summoned and communicate directly with the kitchen. Why did the server just take our entire order verbally to begin with? We have eaten in many restaurants in several states post-Covid and none of them was as awkward and slow an experience as this restaurant. Will not return.
We love the food and the staff. I visit weekly if possible.
An Amazing Brunch Experience! My girlfriends and I had a great time.
First visit to the Boathouse. Loved the online ordering process! The servers were great. Most importantly, the food was terrific. Oysters Rockefeller and the daily special, Blackened Cod were delish! We will be back.
Everything about the restaurant was perfect. The wait staff was polite, professional and kind. The food and drinks were delicious, and the touchless order and pay was a great idea.
The food was good as always, but the ordering scenario makes for an odd dining experience. You order online (with a 20% automatic gratuity) and someone brings it to your table. You have to order everything online, including drink refills and complimentary bread. I understand they are trying to be safe but it's just not the level of service I'm used to in fine restaurants. We have been to others that have made changes for safety but still provide a high level of personal service. We probably won't dine in here again until things are back to normal.
First time dining at the Boathouse and I really enjoyed the food and experience.
My food wasn’t great, usually the food here is wonderful but in this occasion it was just off.
Food and wine hit the spot. Service very helpful. Special evening
We had an amazing time! It was our first go around eating out after Covid. Service was amazing and the food/drinks were outstanding. We look forward to going again
Had issues with the online ordering, it was a bit time consuming and the site was not user friendly, but the manager was great with assisting in getting our order in. Absolutely fantastic food and very helpful staff
Food was fabulous (as always). Due to the Covid reduced seating things remain quiet. Service could not be better ... absolutely spot on!
Can’t wait for our next excuse to go back to the Boathouse!
Everything was great. Restaurant was well prepared for social distancing. The mobile menu selection and payment process from the table worked great. The servers were courteous and visited the table frequently. The food was outstanding.
If you’re going to have it where you order from your phone and include tip then the servers should check on you as much as they would of you were not doing that. We waited forever for refills and when we got
Our food no one came to see how it was or if we needed anything
I did not like the ordering process at all... it really took away from the initial feeling of being waited on which is why we go out to a nice place. I understand about safety for covid, but it is not that hard to clean menus that have beeen laminated. As far as payment, I totally agree with the 20% service fee, but again ordering regularly and the having a handheld card swiper is not that expensive. The ambience was ok, but not as nice as other locations. Refills were slow and waiter came by only a few times to check. Also not enough choices on menu for entrees
Ordering over your phone is tedious- order your drinks, and pay, then order appetizers and pay, then order entree, etc or order everything at once and it all comes out at same time. Server was courteous and restaurant was clean, but experience could have been better- they add 20% automatically and have contactless service which is good in theory but should at least have paper menus that can be offered to make ordering easier. Then can recycle after each customer. This restaurant is always very cold- don’t know why. The food was ok, fish was good but had to order potatoes as an extra side because came with cauliflower rice. Burgers were ok but not great fries ok, and shrimp salad was good. Zookie dessert was awesome as usual. All in all ok experience but not worth 150 bucks for 4 people with no alcohol.
I expcted it to me more intimate setting a little more claasier setting. I also wish they had more then just Asparagus for vegetarians. There are more people becoming vegan and vegetarian so more of these meals needs to be added to the menu.
All employees get a grade of A+ while business practice of restaurant gets an F!!!! Even though we are dealing with Covid 19, I have NEVER been asked to pay for my meal, add on a tip and then to add insult to injury a $9 fee was added on BEFORE we even received our food!! I have dined at other places (at least 4) during the Covid 19 pandemic and have NEVER been asked to pay ahead of time. The Boathouse used to be a favorite place of mine, but I will not return!!
Hi Will, We have moved to contactless mobile ordering to encourage social distancing, as listed as a best practice in state reopening guidelines. I understand you were frustrated at having to pay upon ordering-- we are hoping for an update soon that will change that. The service fee helps guarantee a professional wage to our wonderful front and back of house staff. As indicated on the order screen, no additional gratuity is necessary. I apologize that the new system fell short for you.
