Good food and drinks. We celebrated our anniversary there. Be prepared to order online, and pay online. Also be prepared there is an automatic 20 percent gratuity.
The food was amazing, but I did not appreciate the fact that they automatically add 20% gratuity when the waitress doesn’t even come to the table. Everything was through the app and other people brought the food. We saw her one when we were seated and once to refill water.
Thought the raw oysters were a little bit pricey for a dozen , 30$. and then just 8 steam and peal shrimp for 16$. Inflation , I know but kinda was a bummer.
Drinks. Apps, Entrees all great. Waiter very attentive. Explained touch less ordering thoroughly and touch less payment was easy.
the food, as always was great. the service was awful. and, the 20% tip added to your bill automatically was offensive.
The contactless ordering is cumbersome and not conducive to a enjoyable meal. The automatic 20% gratuity is something I expect at an extremely high end restaurant...not at one attached to a mall. The server was fairly attentive, the portions were adequate and the meals were flavorful.
Always a good experience here. Book in advance and take advantage of their seating options.
Never again. Terrible food. Horrible service. Crab cakes are basically bred no crab. The crab dip was a joke- it was basically a cheap spread. Fries were cold. Mash potatoes were cold too. Over priced snd they add 20% gratuity automatically. The serving staff don’t care because they know that as soon as they placed the order they got their tip. Avid this place at all cost
Absolutely delicious food, crisp and cold wine with a nice large pour, and super friendly and attentive people!
Very pleasant experience, including excellent food and service. Covid-19 safety precautions are appropriate and appreciated.
We found a wingnut in our soup but they apologized for it and comped our meal. Otherwise great time!
While the service was great and super accommodating, most of the food was a huge let down. The shrimp were over cooked, the crab cakes were all filler, and the asparagus that I had was unseasoned.
I will say the redeeming dish of the night was the dynamite shrimp. Fried to perfection and complimented by the addition of pickles.
I had been looking forward to going to the Boathouse for a while, but I can’t say I’ll be going back anytime soon. I’d rather spend my $$$ at another nice restaurant like Perch or The Tobacco Co.
It’s really too bad because like I said, the staff were excellent.
Excellent experience. Service was great. At table ordering and checkout was a breeze c
excellent seafood with very good variety. roundly efficient staff. Very pleasant atmosphere.
Always good food and service. One of our favorite places to dine out.
The food was very good. We had steak and eggs and chicken and waffles.
Enjoyed the food but ordering via the web site was OK but would have preferred to order in person, especially after the serving staff still came to the table so not sure what difference it made for COVID
Food was cooked well, service was good considering all of the COVID precautions.
Great process to keep everyone safe. Outstanding food.
Service was fast and friendly, food was absolutely amazing.
Dined at The Boathouse for our 17th anniversary. A part from some inconsiderate guests who didn’t want to follow the mask rules, our evening was delightful. Service, ambiance, speed in which the food arrived to the table were wonderful. Even received a visit from the manager with a delivery of a sweet treat to celebrate our anniversary. Would definitely recommend.
I liked everything about this restaurant down to the electronic way to pay.
Wait person was very good but service slow. An hour and fifteen minutes before food arrived. I didn’t feel like he was very attentive even though he was polite. Best steak ever. Making reservation I was ask if it was special occasion. It was my birthday but that was not acknowledged. Not a big deal but why ask the question if nothing is done
The system that The Boathouse is currently using for orders requires you to input your orders in on your phone and pay your "tab" through your phone. In practice, it makes sense, especially with COVID, but I think it took away from the overall experience of eating in a restaurant. Ordering on your phone is complicated and we missed the interaction with our waiter. The atmosphere of The Boathouse fits a "fancy" dinner style, but the phone ordering took away from that, especially when other restaurants at Short Pump are not using this system. My order was wrong initially, but I could only tell the person that brought the food out, not our waiter. We also couldn't ask for recommendations at all, which is always nice.
Also, the tables had call buttons on them but we waited 10+ minutes after pressing the button for a waiter to come around. I saw that multiple people on the waitstaff walked by the button many times, but it took over 10 minutes for our initial waiter to come see what we needed. We also ordered dessert immediately after eating our dinner and the dessert took 30+ minutes to arrive to our table (at the 20 minute mark, we called the waiter over, but they took 10 minutes to arrive to our table). We ended up getting our dessert taken care of by the restaurant, but at that point, I had already paid for it through the tab system, so then it needed to be refunded.
Overall, we interacted with multiple people on the waitstaff - a "waiter" assigned to us, 3 different people bringing over food, plus the manager who brought me a receipt reflecting our refund. The whole experience just felt very disjointed and definitely didn't match the pricey menu and atmosphere of the restaurant. I will say, though, that our food was good.
Excellent meal. Food temperature was acceptable. Seasoning was just right. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
We will definitely visit again.
I enjoyed everything about my visit to The Boathouse - will defiitely return.
Our waiter was hilarious, super nice and the food was really good and came to us pretty quickly.
The boathouse is always a pleasure, fantastic food and great service
First time visiting for my wife and I's anniversary and was blown away at the service. Got worried at the beginning when we found out we ordered everything off your phone cause we haven't had good experience with that before, but everything was amazing. Drinks, apps, food, and desert was fantastic. Will definitely be coming back!!!
Had to beg and plead for silverware and plates. They were understaffed.
I booked this restaurant sight unseen because I live several hours away and I was meeting my daughter at Short Pump Mall. The service was excellent and it took me a few minutes to figure out the entirely touchless ordering system. I was a little leery of the "automatic 20% gratuity" added to every item we ordered, but I'm happy to report the service was excellent and I would have tipped that much anyway. My only complaint is that my portion was so small. It was literally the smallest chicken and waffles I've ever had - I don't know how you cut half a boneless chicken breast in half and call it a full portion then charge $16 for it, but at least it was tasty. My daughter ordered the sausage gravy and biscuits and her portion was huge - a great value at $14.
Enjoyed the food very much. The scallops were cooked perfectly. The issue I have is the automated ordering system. This takes away from the vibe of the place, not to mention they add 20% gratuity to the bill. A forced 20% tip on a self-ordering system just doesn’t seem right to me.
The place was clean & comfortable. Our seating location was great. Our server was exceptionally gracious and helpful.
We stood at the front for 15 minutes without being acknowledged. I ordered truffle fries for my side and the server came to confirm we were okay with an upcharge, and I said yes. Regular fries came out, and we told 2 different servers for a total of 3 times before I eventually just finished my meal and asked them to cancel the fries and take off my upcharge. Seemed like nobody cared because the 20% tip was already guaranteed based on their new pricing structure. Shame because we love the restaurant, especially the one at Rockett’s Landing.
I have always loved the Boathouse. Things are different with COVID, and I found it a little uninviting. The menu was only online, and you even had to pay online. It seemed like there were a lot less things on the menu because of this. The food was still good, but I missed all the options that I am used to.
Food was fair, service was OK, ambiance - none, cost was very pricey. The automatic 20% gratuity was a turn off.
Excellent staff. Fish and chips the best we have found in Richmond. Very light and crispy beer batter. They have great pandemic processes in place.
The servers were excellent but there were limited menu items.
We were very pleased with the service and food after getting a replacement for an entree that we did not like. We were treated very well by everyone. We will be back for sure.
I have been looking for a restaurant for good fried shrimp ever since Skilligalee's closed and I have finally found it!! My wife and I had a wonderful, relaxed dinner with excellent and attentive service from everyone there. Can't wait to go back for the Shrimp Tacos!
