The Boathouse at Rocketts Landing Ratings and Reviews
Starter was deep fried calamari (per a friend, supposed to be great). In our case, taste was good. Calamari was fresh, i.e., tender. But ... it was soggy, not crisp :-(
Entree was the "special" - grilled rockfish. It was overcooked and dry. Serving sizes were unusually small for the price - rockfish 4 oz, 3 asparagus spears and a small serving of mashed potatoes :-(
Would not go back except for a drink and the scenery.
We really enjoyed Boathouse. We met friends and family there who drove from DC and we drove from Williamsburg. Elaine was an awesome waitress. She made great meal suggestions and made us feel very welcomed. The food was hot and tasty. The history of the building and the river scenery added to the entire occasion. We will definitely go back again!
My family was part of a wedding group for brunch the morning after the wedding. Our server was very friendly and informative, not only about the menu but about wait time. The atmosphere was open and inviting, and as it was a chilly day, the two fires inside created a warm ambiance even with the large picture windows filtering in light from outside. My food was so delicious! I ordered the vegetable eggs Benedict, which had no English muffin but was placed upon eggplant and tomato. And I loved the sliced avocado topping. The poached eggs were PERFECT and so yummy with the creamy hollandaise sauce and the baked mozzarella. In fact, just writing about it makes me want to revisit the experience. I LOVED the way the coffee was served in our own personal French presses and the Bloody Mary was tall, spicy and decked out with veggies on the top, including pickled green beans. The only thing I would've done differently would have been to have the ice on the side instead of in the drink as it watered it down some.
Great menu selections--esp. fish and seafood. Excellent fried oysters. Our server, Garrett, was knowlegable, friendly and energetic. Very attentive. Noise level is always a little high. Not sure music is needed on top of crowd noise. Beautiful view and enjoyed walking out on the balcony.
Took advantage of the excellent-value Restaurant Week menu. Starters (raw oysters, butternut squash soup with a crab crouton) and desserts (cider-apple donuts and bread pudding) were really very good. Main course of sirloin was meh, nothing particularly special and one of our two orders were quite tough. Great location on the river, very nice "industrial" feel, and a limited though creative and interesting wine list that included a nice selection of South American options.
To be honest, it was so loud that having a conversation with my friend was tiresome as I had to keep asking them to repeat what they said because I couldn't hear! I saw where one attempt at providing something acoustic was made, but, as I am in that business myself, it was ineffective as it was far to little of an effort.
When I go out to dine, I don't expect this atmosphere, rather, a moderate conversation level and a modicum of peace.
I'm afraid this restaurant goes on my too noisy list and I'll more than likely not return.
The food was great. The price was a little high for the portion but not too crazy. My wife and I went for our 23rd anniversary and had only been there once before. The manager found out it was a special occasion and knocked our dessert off the bill. That rates a return trip in the future.
My friends and I came for a Girl's Day. We had such a great time, we didn't realize how much time had passed. We were impressed from the moment we opened the door and were greeted by the hostess. Everyone was accommodating, friendly, and professional. The food and drink options were so amazing, it took us a while to decide what we wanted -- and ended up sharing! We sat outside overlooking the river. The views were breathtaking and made the dining experience that much better -- although, you could've put this restaurant in the middle of the woods with no view and it would've been spectacular regardless. We will definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone and come back for our next visit to Richmond!
A very nice place and everything was Great but I do recommend to them a more thorough cleaning of the table water bottles, they are recycled wine bottoms and hard to clean, we had to order a 2nd bottom after showing the waiter debris in bottom of the first bottle. Otherwise The Boathouse is a fine place to dine, good rivah & city viewing too for a special treat.
A group of friends and I from out of town we’re looking for a good dinner spot, and chose Boathouse based on the OpenTable reviews. Boy, are we glad we did! Our experience overall was excellent, especially the views of the sunset over the water. The only reason I gave the food 4/5 stars was because my friend’s chicken dish was overcooked, and our one vegan dining companion had a hard time finding suitable options (several of the veggie sides were made with meat or cheese). Otherwise, the meal was suburb and the cocktails were delicious. Highly recommend!
We sat outside. It was very nice but some sort of sun shade would have been nice. The food was good, but over-priced. The drinks seemed to be on the weak side and very over-priced. Would recommend to friends for the veiw but would let them know it's over-priced.
We love the Boathouse. But there have been some stumbles this summer. We have felt a little rushed at times having plates pulled from underneath us, or some plates taken from the table while one is still eating. Sometimes the food comes right out. Sometimes it takes a long time. We love the Boathouse, but some details have been lacking this year.
